My Google skills were not up to the task.
Wanting to run Caldari L4s in a Raven with Drones, DI, SDO and CDO @ 5, Gal DS @ 4
My plan is:
reluctantly train Caldari DS to 4. I would have preferred to only do Gal specialization. I do not read many nice things about Amarr drones and I currently do not need to send Warriors after interceptors.
The plan is before the mission if EvEAgents says Recommended damage dealing: Kin (but not kin, therm) then take 5 Vespa II and 5 Hornet II otherwise it is 5 Hobgoblin II and Hammerhead II
Min/Maxers would have at least 3 races drones to 5, but can I get away with this? Or other recommendations?

Seriously? Get over it and train the skills to 4. It's only a few days for each skill. Who knows, you might even want to use T2 heavies sometime down the road. ...in bed. |

Edited by: Mara Rinn on 14/09/2010 01:17:49 I've managed all the non-Empire missions with Hobgoblin II or Warrior II, no problems. The drones get the small stuff before I can finish killing the big stuff. I don't even have drone interfacing trained to 5 on my Raven pilot.
edit: that is to say, don't sweat the drone specialisation too much. You have 5 T2 light drones of an appropriate damage type, you're fine.

When it comes to drones I have ALWAYS used Hobs or Hammerhead IIs. No matter what the dmg type was. Tbh unless you are min/maxing type it shouldn't matter all that much and will get the job done.

I'm using Hobgoblin II and Hammerhead II, too. Otherwise I have to change drones, too - not only Hardeners and Ammo. They kill the small stuff easily, sometimes I assist them with a TP if one is free and I must kill those nasty Spider Drones or the Hammerheads are out and it goes against Frigates. I wouldn't think too much about specific damage types until I sit in a drone boat.
Missions where you have to fight tones of frigates (like Intercept the Saboteurs) are declined by default, even if I choose the correct damage type I have to bring faction ammo to get the massive amount of Frigates down in a decent time. Killing five battleships with T1 ammo would be faster and brings in much more.

You can get away with Warrior/Valk for Angel/Minnie and Hob/Hamm for everything else.
You can do *slightly* better with Hornet/Vespa vs Serps/Mordus/EoM than with the Gallente drones, but really it's not vital and I shouldn't bother with the training time.

Add in Guristas and Caldari empire faction to that too. Gallente drones are only better against Amarr rats or Gallente empire faction. It's more convenient to keep Caldari drone set in bay most of the time, and switch to Gallente only for the odd amar missions if you're carebearing in Caldari space.
