Ok im not sure if this is the right section but, I accepted a contract with 80 million collateral, it had a 8 million reward and had to be moved 24 jumps (deep into 0.0)
Long story short, i got to the destination and couldnt dock it was denied, i clicked about to see why then checked in the box i was given to deliver, 100 veldspar!!!
Im down to my last million isk and tempted to just walk away 8 days into my 3 month sub.. this shouldnt have been allowed.. Im extremly upset by it
Is there anything i can do, make a complaint or anything?

Don't accept courier contracts into 0.0 space. The odds of not being allowed to dock there is very high. It's normal gameplay and CCP will do nothing about it.

learn from the experience - read the stickies/wiki before trying new stuff and assume that all deals that look significantly better than everything comparable are scams unless you are extremely certain of the opposite.
Accept that you will spend the first few months in EVE reading a lot of guides and/or learning about game mechanics "the hard way".

Edge, learn from this and don't walk away, I've been playing for years and still got caught by Bad Bobby!
I know 80Mil is a lot when starting, but give it a few months and you can recover that very quickly through trading, mining, or missions.

Don't be discouraged. Basically, the rule of thumb for EVE is that you should always be skeptical, at least to some extent. Courier contracts that take you to 0.0 space are typically not good ones to pick up. If you're going to do courier contracts, make sure that the destination is an NPC station, so you know you'll be able to dock in it and complete the contract.
Hang in there. This game has a lot to offer if you stick with it.

On that note, I'll give the OP 10 mil if he wont quit. 8 more people and hes collateral is covered. Anyone up to this challenge? Is there any altruism left in EvE?
Lets see if we have 8 people willing to do this, OP will you accept this challenge? Will you stay if we raise 80 mil?

Live and learn. You'll hear this everywhere, but Eve really is a sandbox. You can do whatever you want, including ripping ppl off. The GM's only like to get involved if something is broken with the game or if something breaches the EULA, which is how it should be.
I've been subbing since 2004. Trust me, it's worth every penny.

Do you really want to reward people for being careless?
OP was taught a valuable lesson - if that lesson hurts that's all the better (because it will hopefully make him remember it for some time).
In EVE ignorance does not protect you from punishment and you have to suffer from the consequences of your own mistakes - why would you want to pretend something else to the OP just to make him stay?
Give him all the advice you can think of that could make it easier for him to avoid making a similar mistake again - but please don't give him ISK.

Just saw today Perimeter->Jita contract that paid 500K, and had same sweet 80mil collateral. As soon as it got accepted I parked on peri gate with my popcorn and watched 5 random BR1CK ships (rohk, 2x tempest, thrasher and some other crap) with sentry drones popped for a while.. I dont think that scam worked tho, as the contract had 24h timer and im pretty sure they wont camp that gate whole day :).

Same thing happened to me bro when i was a new pilot.... Many moons ago. Anyway i ended up joining the alliance and flew out to the station to dock. Once my bidness concluded i gave them a nice verbal lashing then bailed back home to my corp. Was all i could do at the time.

Hey you seem like a nice guy.
I'm actually on my way to ending my sub - about 4 days left.
If you send me whatever ISK you have, as a show of good faith, I will send you back double the amount. You send me 2 mill, I'll send you back 4 mill. It won't do me any good on the WOW servers, will it??
This way, you can prove once and for all you learned that lesson.

Im sorry i dont know how to multi-quote in this forum, lots to learn =)
I started playing a 14 day trial (2 day in), someone was offering to budddy invite me, they told me all the details and offered me 150mill if and when i made a full account.. I loved this game and i subscribed the same day..
As for the learning curve, took me a couple days to figure this game out with evemon i think im doing pretty well with skills ect.. Just this stupid contract seemed like an easy way to increase my wallet by 10% for an hours work, oh well lol

That's the subtly that would make a scam like this work. Make a post saying how you were victimized, then post with an alt posing as a kind hearted player thats going to bail you out, and hope others follow suit.
If you don't want this game to break you, if you don't want to get scammed again this is the mentality that you need to develop.
Unless I was right, in which case you have yourself a nice little, low maintenance scam.
P.S. Arguing that you never asked for isk and telling people not to send you money only makes it look more like a scam. It's exactly what a scammer would say, also it's what a person not scamming would say. This is one of the reason I love EVE.

You should realize that people are actually doing the kind of stuff Londo Cebb describes.
They create a new alt and sit in some hub, starter system or NPC corp chat claiming to be new to the game and collecting donations from the more altruistically-inclined of their fellow capsuleers.
Quote: if you don't want to get scammed again this is the mentality that you need to develop.
QFT
In EVE it is healthy to be paranoid - when you interact with another player you should always consider the possibility of him trying to screw you over, even if you think you know him well but especially if it is somebody completely unknown to you (if you haven't watched the new EVE trailer yet, you definitely should do so - it's inspired by real events). Betraying the people who you made think they are your friends is marketed as one of the key features of this game. Almost all kinds of deception, scam and theft are not only tolerated but encouraged by the developers of this game.
In return you shouldn't take it personally if other people look the same way at you - the question is not "why do they expect me to be a scammer?" but "why ffs should they trust me?". If you are honest to yourself you will notice that in most cases they don't have any reason to assume that you really are who you claim to be and that your intentions really are what you just told them.
And no matter whether you are legit or not - once it becomes known that the guys in MD like to hand out free ISK to any new player who threatens to quit the game there will show up people emulating the same kind of post in order to scam.

280mm arty thrasher can hit 800 alpha, only 2 needed to eat a badger (cost: Between 4 to 5 million isk for a full t1 fit, t2 one can hit for a little over 1k)

EULA-APPROVED methodology is... RL cash >---retailer---> GTC//PLEX >---forum/market---> ISK >---forum---> high-SP character ... there you go. Good luck with that "buy SP for cash" thing now, ya' hear ?

You fell for one of the most transparent scams of all time, the "put up a large collateral courier to a player-owned station and hope some random newbie that knows nothing about DOCKING RIGHTS will take it, as opposed to somebody that can actually dock there". Identical-looking NON-SCAM courier contracts exist (where the goods inside the package are worth roughly as much as the collateral), and as long as you CAN complete the courier contract, you shouldn't even care what's inside... and if you CAN'T complete it, you shouldn't take it at all in the first place.
The lesson you should have learned is don't pick up couriers to a 0.0 destination unless YOU KNOW FOR A FACT YOU CAN DOCK THERE.
Instead, you chose to complain such couriers should not be allowed, when in fact, such couriers CAN be perfectly legitimate. Also, sorry, scamming in EVE is allowed, intentionally, so even if it is a scam (which in this particular situation is not necessarily the case) it's still no grounds for any action.
Was it an expensive lesson ? Probably. But now you learned it. Move on. It won't be the last expensive lesson you'll learn in EVE if you don't pay close attention to everything you do.

Originally by: Akita T If I would put up such a legitimate contract, I would be ANNOYED that somebody who obviously can't complete it did take it (and failed it).
QFT. Seriously. So hard to get stuff hauled to 0.0 because of all the noobs not realizing that I meant for some blue to pick it up on their way back from empire, and stealing all my stuff. I would even go as far as saying that these people are scamming us, honest players, of our war supplies.
I started putting 200% - 300% collateral on my contracts. I feel slightly better. ___________ EVE is dying! Now for real! |

I'm a little surprised at the OPs complete meltdown 2/3 of the way through the thread. I actually thought the advice given in the first 10-15 posts was remarkably helpful for the Eve forums. He should try posting this in the C&P forum and see what sort of response he gets.

Except it's Bricks Squad which are a pretty good 0.0 corp (had them red when I was close to their home) and they have far more money to bother with 80M. 80M is for the NPC corp 1M SP biomass-able alts. - Auditing & consulting

Or what about the contracts that I have never been lucky enough to get yet where you pay for a bpc but get a bpo

The OP would do well to read Akita's rather nice response to his whining. The post spells out what haulers need to watch for.
However, given the current attitude, I sincerely doubt if it will be taken constructively.
Edge Horseman ... EVE is not a game where being nice is encoded in the rules of the game. Perhaps Hello Kitty Online will provide you with the safety you need. http://www.hellokittyonline.com |
