At that fire rate you would need cargoextenders or an alt with a hauler to keep your guns loaded

ehehehe, reduce damage to almost nothing, raise ROF to about 500 rounds persecond, make ammo much smaller in cargo hold..
to much work.
Besides, we do that and there will be little difference between amar laser animations and mimi AC gun animations. you ever see an MG42 loaded with tracers go off? it looks like a laser beam.
Best to have them fix our mimi T2 ammo before they work on asthetics. Check out L dual 650mm AC they kinda do what you want.

I am not convinced by your evidence. GAU-8 Gatling gun of A-10 you have shown to us has caliber of 30mm while autocannons in Eve are about this size or larger.

Edited by: Doddy on 14/09/2010 22:45:06 Edited by: Doddy on 14/09/2010 22:43:10 you do realise even the smallest auto in eve is like 4 times the calibre of that one? You would be better off comparing something like a 105mm to eve (still too small). The 200mm is the same calibre as a tank gun.
Note the rapid fire weapon in the ac-130 vid is i think the same as the a-10 weapon.

Edited by: Gil Danastre on 14/09/2010 23:20:39 Y'know, it begs the scary sense of scale with Minnie guns. The dread guns are 6 barreled 2500mm guns, which is 2.5 meters big, or 98 ish inches. This is 16 inch naval gun fire, which is about half that of the large autos and artys. The XL arty shell is nearly the height of 4 average sized people standing on top of each other

The rate of fire for the 800mm Gustav and Dora was 30 to 45 minutes long. Each projectile weighed about 7 tonnes.
A Varugr's 800mm Large Autocannon T2's rate of fire is just under three seconds with my setup and level 5 skills. That's firing 6-8 tonnes of fury and metal EVERY three seconds.
The world's largest caliber ever built was the 914mm mortar, Little David.
The largest caliber in Eve goes to the Quad 3500mm Seige Artillery. The rate of fire for these monsters is roughly 25 seconds with level 5 skills. Every TWENTY FIVE seconds. This cannon fires not one, but FOUR shells (I think) each weighing only-chribba-knows-what at the same time. Each projectile is about the same size that of a large bus.

Dear Lord, think of the lag! You think we have problems now, think of 200 ships cranking out 50 shots a second, each of which need to be caclulated for transversal and damage assigned separately.
I get the feeling the resulting explosion would suck the servers into an alternate dimension, where everything is made of peanut butter or something amazing like that.

Dear Mr. Nimaz,
I regret to inform you that such 'spray and pray' tactics that were utilized in such a barbaric backwards ancient 'civilization' have long been abandoned for a more refined, cost effective and more accurate solution. I recommend you try some historical holo-shooters at the arcade if this does not adequately temper your need for excessive violence.

If you want to , do it at CCP's lack of internal consistency in the stats.
The gun says it fires 800mm shells. The ammo says it's only 25 litres. Now do the maths on what that projectile has to look likeà
(Never mind the retcons/excuses that the ammo in your cargo hold is only really the payload, which then gets loaded onto a larger-calibre sabot, which would explain why you can use the exact same ammo for a wide variety of calibres.) ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

"If you want to , do it at CCP's lack of internal consistency in the stats." <- hypothesis/advice
"The gun says it fires 800mm shells. The ammo says it's only 25 litres. Now do the maths on what that projectile has to look likeà" <- argument supporting above mentioned hypothesis/advice
...
EDIT: my phrasing of 'hypothesis/advice' might have been a little bit off depending on your intended purpose for stating such things. This however does not affect the relationship between the two sections of text, with the latter fulfilling a supportive/argumentative role to the other. __________________________________________________

The smallest Autocannon in the game can fire the rounds used with this weapon 125mm tank gun every 3 seconds.
A larger autocannon, the 425mm one used on cruisers and battlecruisers fires the same size rounds as 16 inch naval guns every 5.63 seconds, for reference the youtube link previously shown with that weapon you can see that they haven't even opened the breach after firing before the EVE weapon would have fired again.
In the battleship class weaponry the previously mentioned Schwerer Gustav is the only comparable size weapon and the capital class weapon the 2500mm autocannon is simply without earthly comparison.
Eve is big, really really big, and while you might for a moment find yourself envying some earthly weapons for certain characteristics keep in mind that the most basic large blaster (electron blaster I) matches the range of the main gun on an abrams tank.

Well, it's space. There's no reason for the projectiles to be cone-shaped except for penetration. High-speed 800mm 7-tonne pancakes is very likely to cause some damage.

But the energy of impact would be dissipated across the surface, causing less damage to critical systems because less energy is getting to it. Thats one of the reasons tank shells are shaped like that are; Titanium sabot rounds don't even explode, they just hit really hard with a lot of mass behind them, and all that mass hits the same place and delivers a lot of energy.
Delivered energy = Structural failure, damage.

And where's the inconsistency or contradiction?
The poster (A} was rolling his eyes at someone (B) who, quite accurately, showed what an 800mm shell looks like and the reason for this eye-rolling was a completely different stat. I merely pointed out that this is not something he should direct at (B) because it's actually CCP who are trying to claim that both the 800mm calibre and the 25 litre volume are true.
My suggestion was rather that he should take a moment to consider what these two statements in combination say about the projectile and then roll his eyes at that instead. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |
