That is cool stuff. I will not say I would not have a problem with that type of height, but I have done rigging work in Coliseums that do not have safety nets.

It would be a privacy thing. Free climbing is allowed in the OSHA rules and most do it, according to the narrator.
From someone that has delt with OSHA extensively and for issues pertaining to leaving the ground as well, the focus word is climbing. It is unreasonable to not allow 'free climbing'. The only time you are allowed to be still and not attached is when you are stopped to unclip and reattach your safety gear. Once you are in position you 'must' stay attached.

Had a similar job for 3 years, erecting high voltage towers with helicopters.
kinda like this ; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvqlYmrgAjI
In my experience once you get above 30 meters its all the same. It looks crazy on video, but for the guy climbing its no big difference if its 30m or 200m. Altho those guys must be in very good shape to climb that high. Climbing is hard work :)

On Monday he was getting calls from colleagues telling him that they were concerned about what the video showed. His world is a very small one, and you donĘt want to bite the hand that feeds you! Some facility owners are concerned about liability and such and may second thoughts about him if they think he does not take safety seriously.
I'd like to see the video of him actually mending the lightbulb or whatever it is, but I'm not sure he'll ever release it now

Originally by: Skippermonkey Me being at work, i watched this with the sound off, so i dont know what was said/narrated
I really wanted to see them base jump from the top instead of climb down, which i expect they did.
yes, sounds like fun.
i would especially enjoy the part where i was sliced and diced by the cables holding the tower in place

i give the guy props, but hero doesn't come to mind.... i'm leaning towards idiot
as long as ******s are willing to climb towers 1700ft in the air, companies will be happy to not spend the money engineering something safer and easier to maintain.
it's the friggin 21st century. no one can tell me there aren't a 100 different ways to make that tower so you don't need to climb a metal ladder out in the open.

i'm guessing the narrator is either a moron or lying. last i checked osha is not cool with free climbing. though in the deregulation of godamn everything over the last 10 years i suppose it's possible rules have changed

I honestly expected something scarier. Not that I wouldn't be scared climbing 1700 ft but the way people in this thread are talking I expected a guy fighting dragons or something.
