In a perfect world. But I don't believe people at the forum are mature enough to handle such a thing as a dislike button.

Is this to show that you dislike someone or that you dislike what they wrote?
No one would dislike everything someone has posted on a forum if they dislike the person would they? Maybe we can have a contest to see who can get the most dislikes? |

I could see it working in game, have some sort of rep system where you could have both positive and negative points. Of course i am drunk posting... so maybe it would be a horrid idea. I dunno man. -- Pity me not, but lend thy serious hearing to what I shall unfold. |

When you reach a negative 300 you can't post any longer.

Just click DISLIKE and have done with it. Take an aspirin. If pain persists consult your local priest. |

It doesn't even need to be a small button, I'd actually prefer it to be the same size, there is NO POINT to a Like button without a Dislike Button. This forum is beginning to feel like Hello Kitty :P |

a rep system makes you focus on writing with your readers in mind instead of just writing for the joy of seeing your words posted in public.
if your readers think you wasted their time with your posts (or that dealing with you as a person is a waste of time) they will tell you and you will hopefully adapt or shut up (some system where posts by people with negative rep are hidden/greyed out/collapsed ... is highly recommended).
In my experience these systems do not lead to dissenting opinions being neg-repped automatically (case in point: kugu where quite a few alliances meet and rep still mostly coincides with posting quality) but tend to punish ill-written, uninformed walls of text quite harshly.
While I was in TEST the rep system on their internal forums did make me think harder about how to word my posts in a concise way, how to work in little gimmicks/references to keep the reader interested & entertained, how to "sell" my points so that ppl who are unlikely to agree can see their value, ... This didn't change the substance of my posts by much (although if you catch yourself thinking "wow, I'm going to get a whole lot of neg rep for that post" you might want to pause & second-guess whether that post would really be of value to the community) but it made me pay much more attention to the "flow" of each post.
Here I mostly post with a "this is my opinion, look at me" attitude without caring much about the reader. |
