Body art is an important part of Minmatar culture and the artform has spread amongst the races.
"Tattoos" is a new EVE Chronicle written by CCP Ginger.

There's some minor grammatical mistakes in 'Tattoos', like the alternating of him or her, though besides that it's a nicely written and informative piece about Minmatari culture.

I would imagine that as part of the reanimation process (as in, altering the clone's features to resemble the pilot that's being cloned) they would copy any cosmetic alterations, such as tattoos. I mean, after all - you don't want to waste the isk you paid out for one of those 'mood' tattoos - the ones that only come out when you're angry, etc.

Very cool Chronicle. Always been proud of being Minmatar; tales of tribal heritage and lore make feel even more so.
As far as clones...perhaps clone facilities employ talented techie tattooists who use sophisticated technology to recreate tattoos on newly activated clones. I always wondered about that.

Hmmm,... I thought the chronicle was an interesting bit of history of a certain, important aspect of their culture, but the story itself didn't really go anywhere. The story sort of ran out of ink crossing transversely from one artform to the other...lol
(I mean, I've never played a Minmatar character, but I feel they deserve better.)
After all, As the old Earth saying goes ... "A picture is worth a thousands words" (even if it is just covering skin).

So the Tattoo parlour is the Minmatar administrive complex? I can see it now... Minmatar youths queueing for hours for drivers licence tatts.
Also this character of mine uses Minmatar Core Complexion tech. Can a non Minmatar capsuleer get Minmatar Tatts that are more offical and not regarded with disdain?
And lastly can I request a chronicle to do with the subcranial micro controlers. I think they would be really really improtant tech and play an important role throughout New Eden
How do you know if you have one or not?

Makes me feel proud to be a mimatar again :) Im glad I got this Tatoo on my forehead...Now I need to think up a nice backstory to accompany it!
Also, Good similie on " A Minmatar without tatoos is like an Amarrian with no god." Makes it easy to tell how important they really are! Thanks for the great read!

Perhaps the tattoo patterns could be encoded into the clone's DNA, thereby re-creating the pattern a pilot was 'born' with? Either way, it's fun to speculate, and a good story. It'll be interesting to recreate this with the new avatars.

Excellent.
We issue tattoos in T.R.I.A.D based upon combat prowess for our members. These can be seen on our 'Medals and Rewards' page and auto generate to their sig/template, signifying which area of their body the tattoo is placed on.
The one you can see at the bottom of this post in my sig is one such example

Isn't this highly similar to "War Tattoos". I mean any little bit of Eve lore and esotera of its inhabitants is a great gift to sci-fi dorks like me, but they just seemed a little too alike. great job still! |

Edited by: Arnulf Ogunkoya on 21/09/2010 19:42:09 War Tattoos are a special case. They show when the wearer is getting excited. Possibly they can distinguish between anger and other sorts of arousal. However I'm not sure about the latter point.
This is about tattoos as a display of status and experience, rather than tattoos as intimidation tool.
And in reply to an earlier question I see no reason why someone who isn't ethnic Minmatar couldn't earn the right to wear tattoos. I suspect they'd have to be adopted by a clan and get a Mark first though. Don't know about PF examples of this but I know of at least one Caldari character who RP'd doing just that. Regards,

I wonder if the Minmatar ever play tattoo pranks on each other... like, wait for one of them to go to sleep, then use magic marker to draw a REALLY BAD mark on his face. He wouldn't even notice when he woke up. Then he'd get exiled, and everyone laughs. Except him I guess, because he's exiled.

This can evoke anything between high derision and outright hostility when those so inked encounter true Minmatar.
Think ive heard stories of the native new zealanders, the maori reacting this way when outsiders copying thier tattoos

Not an official answer, just speculating but: yes and no. If you impress the tribe, and attain enough social status with them, you'll likely be offered an Official Tattoo to signify your status and actions with them. It will likely include elements of "friend to the tribe" or even "adopted into the tribe" in it's design.
But you might face incredulity or disbelief from some of the more ignorant or racist Minmatars out there. Especially if one is Amarr or Caldari in origin.

Seconded, as I think their (standard) use and purpose is fairly misunderstood as well.

I hope this gets to play a role in incarna. And it would be nice if only Minmatar CEOs or militia can grant the use of certain tattoos. I can see a lot of Minmatar players walking around in stations without shirts on. lol
And since I'm Gallente it would be nice to see some body mods.
