I realize that EVE has been up, about, and healthy for quite some years now. I am not sure if this topic has already been discussed but it is an issue that have always bothered me.
Assuming ship to ship combat is a big part of the game, shouldn't the basics be animated in a way that is at least believable? When a turret misses, shouldn't the projective or beam travel past and not have direct contact with the target as if it had hit?
I know this is hardly noticeable in a large fleet battle, or perhaps I am pushing the realism a bit too far. All in all I do believe it would add to the dynamism and the flow of combat.
Major concerns are "how" will the projectile miss: what angle, distance, relativeness to turret tracking speed or signature radius. Also I noticed that ships do not have a "shape" structure in EVE as detailed coalition is often unnecessary, making it harder for projectiles to look as if they have missed without touching a extended wing or something but I won't make any further assumptions.
However unlikely, it would be great if this was implemented

This thread is now about lag, and how this will increase it.
Discuss.

Its purely animation. Wouldn't effect lag in any way.
You just slap in some coding that causes the client to draw the line to in imagineary point beyond the traget that is tangential with the target ships sig radius. Because the ships aren't strictly to scale that sig radius when popped into the 3D anumation would have to be arbitarilly chosen to be pleasing to most models.
I actually noticed the temp of my ATI 4870x2 rise enough to cause the fan to speed up the other night. It might be an issue for those people that use laptop *ahem*... 'computers'
All 3D cencerns are a client side issue and peeps need to stop persuing htis crazy notion of a 'gaming' laptop. Thermodynamics just dont allow Laptops to be powerful with current tech.

I don't see how this slight graphics animation change will cause issues for latency, unless you mean FPS. In which case shouldn't change much as well. Not a big difference rendering a laser hitting your ship or missing.

Bring on greater GFX eye candy for the high end rigs running eve. Make the lap top owners so jealous they'll rethink their overrated LCD watches.
I love the HDR on the models needs MOAR!!! Tons of Client side GFX effects for impressing peeples... like increased radius on the explosions so that wreckage whizzes past sometimes... would be nasty. Gas and liquid smears floating through space on the same vector the ship was on when it lost structural inegrity.
Missile turrets would make SOO many people happy.

Somdays I just pve / plex via the system map and use the overview on the right to select and kill targets. by all means more awesome graphics for those that want it, But ultimately you could play the game like a spreadsheet.
I have noticed i don't get caught on certain in space objects like I do if I am visually watching what the ships doing.
If you fc is marking targets for you there's no reason you even need to have the whole grid showing up on your screen.
