Just wondering what everyone's take on this was - a friend of mine mentioned this and I wanted to know what the commmunity thought. I'm about 8m SP in and I've been training mostly Gallente and am considering the switch to Minmatar.

The Ishtar is alright, the Taranis puts out some insane DPS for a ship its size, and the Megathron is a pretty decent fleet BS. Other then that though Gallente is rather lackluster.
Blasters require you to get to close and rails are the worst DPS weapon in the game. I think this is why most Gallente ships aren't very good. --- My cat Putter approves of this post. |

They work fine if you use them what they're good for, point blank blaster face melting.

Of course they don't suck.
Small scale pvp in eve-online is pretty much all about player skill and your gangs ability to make the right choices + fly their ship types well. Nobody in their right mind is going to care what kind of racial ships you fly as long as you're good at flying the ship you're currently in.
Fleet warfare is a bit of another story, but since that's not part of the game anymore it doesn't really matter. :p

Okay, I'll bite. Why not ?
Doesn't have bonuses for cap transfer and doesn't have enough cap recharge to sustain armor reps by itself.

And that's why you are wrong. A shield buffer tanked Oneiros can maintain 4 large reppers and an AB nonstop.

The Gallente drone boats (vexor, myrmidon, dominix, ishkur, and ishtar) and interceptors (ares and taranis) are considered good ships, but most larger ships that rely on hybrid weapons tend to be kinda iffy. The thorax is pretty good and the megathron is alright, but other than that there aren't many shining options.

Well unless you want to mission or fly Ishtar or interceptors, even if Gallente cruisers can make the difference, you may not be able to find your ammunition and many stuff for Gallente.
You corp will probably not produce Gallente in lowsec too.

The Dominix is always welcome in Battleship fleets!
I am fond of the RR Domi, with the large drone bay, drone bonus and tank they can be hell in a spidertanking BS gang.
With the abillity to provide Cap, Armour, Nuets and bonused Sentries/Hevies all while holding a seven slot armor tank is why it is one of the best BS in the game!
-- Alara's Law!
As an online discussion on EVE ships grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving the Dominix approaches 1 |

You want reppers, AB, Shield extender, hardeners cap power relays and a damage control the trick is to have Remote Repair Augmentors
You might need logistics 5 or imps (CC8, CR8, ZET2000) to get it stable.

fleet pvp for the most part is fought at medium range. amarr/minmatar do well here since there close range guns can fit well between 20-45km. gallente excels in solo pvp, but that doesn't mean they dont have rolls in fleets. arazu and Lachesis are pretty popular ships for medium to long range gangs....

As cool as the Arazu and Lachesis seem, I think I'm more inclined towards a DPS role. Which race do you guys prefer? Amarr or Minmatar? And why?
Judging from the responses I've gotten, I think I'm planning a cross train soon and I'm trying to weigh my options. Thanks!

Amarr. Close range laz0rs can hit at the edge of webbing range. If you switch to long range ammo that even holds true if a recon tackles you.
Tachyons used to be ballanced with fitting requirements. Since we got rigs they are fittable without sacrificing damage or tank. Not to speak of the Nightmare and Paladin, that can fit those out of the box.
With minmatar you need a lot of luck to get into optimal range. Base targeting range is crap too. There aint that many damps around anymore but they are still most effective against minmatar ships. |

Like this?
[Oneiros, rep] Damage Control II Capacitor Power Relay II Capacitor Power Relay II Reactor Control Unit II
10MN Afterburner II Large Shield Extender II Large Shield Extender II Invulnerability Field II Invulnerability Field II
Large Remote Armor Repair System II Large Remote Armor Repair System II Large Remote Armor Repair System II Large Remote Armor Repair System II
Medium Remote Repair Augmentor II Medium Remote Repair Augmentor II
Medium Armor Maintenance Bot I x5
Implants: CC8, PG2
Stable at 38% with 48k ehp
If you downsize 1 rep to a medium then it fits without the implants or the reactor control.

If you go for tec 2 rigs (pricy!) you don't need the imps.

First, I really hate facing a Dominix in PvP, as they are always a surprise and usually a PITA.
Second, when the system is lagged, at least your drones are chewing on something.
Third, Nyx.

Actually, the Onerios CAN be fit, Its just a very, very, very, difficult fit to fly. Requires you to pay ALOT of attention, and have some very good logi skills. But it can be done. I like me. 101st Space Marine Force Senior Recruiter |
