Greetings brothers and sisters of Amarr and the lesser races. Today I come to speak to you on the topic of paranoia and how it affects the Minmatar relationship with the Amarrian people.
Main Entry: /.par-e-noi-a Function: noun 1 : A psychosis characterized by systematized delusions of persecution or grandeur usually without hallucinations. 2 : A tendency on the part of an individual toward excessive or irrational suspiciousness and distrustfulness of others.
Recently I had the opportunity to visit some poor Minmatar refugees. These individuals had escaped the violence of Matar and fled back to the safety of Amarr. They had been freed over a year ago but found upon their arriving in Matari space they were unable to practice their chosen religion... the religion of Amarr.
We've all seen the recent news stories about the violence faced by these faithful refugees as they've tried to assimilate into Matari society (if you can call it that). The Matari ghetto settlements have become breeding grounds of intolerance and those who would worship the true God of Amarr are oppressed by these so called "freedom fighters". It seems freedom only applies to those who think as they do.
To many Minmatar the fictional stories of slave ships backing up to planets and abducting millions of Minmatar are fed to them from birth. While certainly that have been a few rare occasions of such actions by a small minority of slave owners the vast majority of slaves are sold from Matari space itself into Amarrian servitude. I myself regularly purchase slaves in neutral space only to discover later that they've been cast into slavery by their own kind. Unlike the Amarr who are concerned with the well being of the slaves these Matari salesmen are only interested in making a fast isk regardless the price to these people. I find many Matari upon arriving at SPCS facilities and my own properties are grateful beyond words for the care provided them. After their early experience in slavery, an experience forged by their own kind, they come to know the reality of slavery that being a life in service to God.

Anyway about those Minmatar refugees I met... after helping these poor souls by providing them housing, a job and a future, I had the opportunity to sit and chat with them. They revealed the reason the Minmatar were so hostile to the Amarr religion was their irrational belief that Amarrians were around every corner ready to abduct them into slavery. While there are some slavers who operate like this the vast majority of Amarrian slavers are kind and considerate masters who only seek the best for their charges. Still this issue of irrational fear of the Minmatar piqued my interest and I decided to investigate. What I found was paranoia fostered by their own kind.
To many Matari the Amarr are oppressors, they are evil, and they are obsessed with slavery and abducting the Matari. Paranoia is a mental illness with very clear definitions. Here are some additional ones:
[par-uh-noi-uh] Function: noun 1. A mental disorder characterized by systematized delusions and the projection of personal conflicts, which are ascribed to the supposed hostility of others, sometimes progressing to disturbances of consciousness and aggressive acts believed to be performed in self-defense or as a mission. 2. Baseless or excessive suspicion of the motives of others. 3. A mental disorder characterized by any of several types of delusions, in which the personality otherwise remains relatively intact 4. An informal intense fear or suspicion, esp when unfounded.
Paranoia is a devious and destructive mental illness for the Minmatar. Their own paranoid fears lead them to lash out at the peaceful Amarr as we attempt to help them. Paranoia taught to them as young children and nurtured into adulthood. Why is this the case? I believe the Minmatar "leadership", their heathen elders and the like, purposely have created this false illusion of paranoia to cover for their own advantage. After all what better way to rally the people to a cause then to create some fictitious "enemy" to be afraid of. When the Minmatar are living in this self created fear they ignore the reality of their situation. The reality is they would be better off in our care.
When I look at the news stories about the returning Minmatar and the oppression of those who practice the Amarr religion I have to believe this is a concerted Minmatar sponsored act to drive out those who know the truth of Amarr. A truth of golden cities, of people with a purpose, of a life in service to God and Empire. These returning Matari have seen the truth of the Amarr and now returning are sure to spread that truth to others. That is a threat to the leaders and the heathen elders and that threat must be dealt with. We see that is happening now.
But it isn't just the Minmatar who suffer from paranoia. We see it everywhere today. Accusations of plots by the Amarrians, of Amarrian conspiracies, of Amarrian proxies and Amarrian wickedness. Paranoid accusations of persecution and oppression by mentally ill individuals seeing an Amarrian behind every tree, a plot behind every ship movement, a stalker around every corner or a proxy behind every IGS posting. I find these mentally ill individuals just as sick as the Minmatar for they too have fallen victim to mental illness and deranged thought processes.

What the Minmatar gain from paranoia is not much different from what anyone can gain. By creating a fictitious "bad guy" you can create justification for any action. From the Minmatar terrorists blowing up transports full of children to the paranoid corporation participating in a corp theft these groups justify horrible acts by creating a "bad guy" to act out against. Frequently you will see the paranoid individual do the same things they condemn others of. To them anything is justified and they will just ignore reality for they have someone to blame for all their failings. An "enemy" to toss responsibility for their own destructive actions. Often that bad guy is the Amarr. Why is that? Well perhaps it is because we are the most successful of the major empires. The largest, probably the wealthiest, the most steeped in tradition, the empire that rediscovered jumpgate technology, the empire of God and the unity of purpose. For those who serve God and empire the purpose is clear.
Contrast that to the paranoid Minmatar, divided into tribes and clans, bizarre traditions and no technological advancement to speak of. They gain control by demonizing the Amarr. So does the paranoid anti-Amarrian individual who is jealous of all our empire has to offer. When they can't attain what we have they seek to bring us down by insulting us. All they do though is strengthen our resolve. For the Amarr know the truth already. The paranoid individual, in the grips of mental illness, strikes out at anyone who believes something they do not. Even those with no relationship to the Amarr can be "grouped" with the Amarr and compared to them by the paranoid individual. For it is easier to ignore reality and stay on the course of mental illness directed persecution.
When I see a Minmatar slave for the first time I'm often taken aback at just how terrified they seem. As time goes by though they see the reality of the Amarr and eventually come to realize they've been lied to their entire life. Paranoia can be defeated... often by simple fact... often by simple demonstration of kindness. It takes time and some paranoid individuals are so lost in the maze of mental illness they may never come out. So steeped in the delusions of grandeur and persecution defined above there is no hope for them. Fortunately to everyone else they are quite obvious and thus identified. Once identified it is quite easy to put everything they claim into perspective. Every paranoid claim of Amarrian persecution is another piece of paranoia and nothing more. Whether the Minmatar or anyone else suffering from this mental illness the treatment is the same. Identification, understanding tempered with realism and verification of anything they claim.
After all... you may be the next part of the great Amarrian conspiracy in their mind.

To address these issues the little doll Bishop mutters, speaketh of mind fear, of mind mazes, and of kindness. Speaketh of kind cold hands.
Long ago I was the old little me. I remember the priest hands all over. RIPPING HIS EYEBALLS OUT WITH MY FINGERNAILS the little voice in the doll box whispered. So the old little me had to flee, and the new little me had to forget the old little me, and the doll box was put in the doll house for no one to see.
I quote from the little Book of Them (Glyph 96), as comforting embrace:
The little voice in the box sayeth KILL KILL KILL ”There” The little voice in the box sayeth KILL KILL KILL ”There can” The little voice in the box sayeth KILL KILL KILL ”There can be” The little voice in the box sayeth KILL KILL KILL ”There can be no” The little voice in the box sayeth KILL KILL KILL ”There can be no salvation” The little voice in the box sayeth KILL KILL KILL ”There can be no salvatation without” The little voice in the box sayeth KILL KILL KILL ”There can be no salvation without bloodshed”
was what the priest said to little me.
Swallow your own words, priest, because you will choke the minute you keep silent. And keep your hands to yourself. Them I do not want. Nor your cold dead kindness.

Dear sir i dare you to come forward with proof of your claims, other than that please stop soiling the good name of the Amarr faith for we all know that its all about love and sharing the good word with your fellow men. I find it incredible to believe any of your words! I personally expended most of my youth on Amarr, and i can assure you kind sir that the women of Amarr are gentle people, who care for nothing more than to bring pleasure to their fellow men. (This you can clearly read on my Authobiography: Black Necris The Sebiestor Stallion).
As good old Archbishop said: "By creating a fictitious "bad guy" you can create justification for any action" . You claim that the Amarr are trying to use the force of their loving and caring empire to enslave our people!?!? I'm starting to believe what my fellow archbishop says, you are trying to create a diversion to justify crimes against the good Amarr people, with groups that dedicate their time to pursuit entrepreneurs and civilians, like the so called Ushra Khans, and the dammed Damu Khondes god dammed heretics that hurt and haunt the just.
Let it be known for this day forward that the loving people of Amarr will not stand anymore smearing against their reputation, for the Amarr are untarnished when it comes to interracial relations (As you can clearly read on my Authobiography: Black Necris The Sebiestor Stallion also).

You really have to sit back and wonder how far the 'paranoia' permeates, because it seems to have become part of the psyche of fellow Capsuleers nowadays.
While it is true, that not all Amarrians are kind and considerate towards their slaves, the growing majority realise that it is much easier in the long term to cultivate a slave that is not abused and degraded, but instead treated more like an indentured servant, meaning that they recieve good care and protection.
By contrast, you "free" these slaves, take them back home and suddenly they are subject to persecution and aggression for being thankful to the people that have looked after them and given them skills and livelyhood?
Oh, because freedom is something that all slaves must aspire to, because being dragged from your home, your family and friends and thrust into a culture you are largely unfamiliar with and are then treated almost subhumanely, to a greater extent than as a slave.
Its not just paranoia it seems, but a great deal of hypocracy.

I'm new here. I have a question. Does this growing mercy have anything to do with the growing trend of Vitoc use on slave populations?
Archbishop. You seem like a nice enough Amarrian. I take it you give these abducted people a chance to go home, right?
But, and I know I have asked a few questions and so I'm not an expert, I think I know one thing that maybe you should be asking questions about. It hasn't been that long since Amarrian ships were sending wrath-fire down from orbit to burn whole cities. It hasn't been that long since every one of us without the word 'Thukker' arced across his face was held in captivity. It's ongoing that Amarrian fleets do battle to claim our space, even as we contest Amarrian holdings.
What I know is that it isn't paranoia to call an enemy an enemy.

What I know is that it isn't paranoia to call an enemy an enemy.
But why is that enemy an enemy?
Until a couple of years ago there was peace. It wasn't always an easy peace, but it was peace nevertheless.
Emperor Heideran VII had been awarded the Aidonis for his efforts in building a peace between the Empire and the Republic, and then Emperor Doriam II had carried on with that work.
But peace wasn't enough for the paranoid Minmatars. They decided, without justification, that the Empire was a threat. And so the Elders launched their ill-fated invasion of the Empire.
And that is why we are now at war.
Minmatar paranoia has cost the lives of millions on both sides.

That wasn't paranoia. I think we both know that. It was, largely, an act designed to save the Starkmanir, ordered eradicated but secretly, barely, preserved. That we've left them out to dry since then is one of our greatest failings as a people, but there it is. Keeping one of the great Tribes from destruction was, I think, worth the price. For both our peoples.
Unfortunate Doriam didn't carry on long enough to secure the peace. I was barely more than a boy then, but I remember the shock, even so far away as we were in the Republic.

If I were to risk a fleet of capital ships in order to protect a few, I'd try to protect many. If I knew protecting any of them would anger the Empire anyhow, I'd try to do the damage I could when I could before the reprisal started. That is tactics, strategy.
In the ideal world, these people would have the easy option of going back if they wanted to. I think we both agree we aren't in that world.

No, it's an over-reaction.
If it wasn't for the paranoia at the heart of the Shakorites, then a peaceful solution would have been found.
Have you noticed how even whilst at war the Empire still seeks peace? Had we truly been just about conquest, then Empress Jamyl would not have emancipated a large number of slaves.
Going further back, the vast majority of Ni-Kunni and Udorian slaves were also emancipated.
But the Shakorites don't see that. They are blinded by their paranoia.

Freeing a number of slaves did not end the war and it did not stop, and does not stop, the golden fleets from contesting our systems. Nor have I heard of the Empress campaigning for peace, or contacting the Shakor administration. I have heard of a renewed Reclaiming. Perhaps I've missed something?
I am aware of the Empire's desire to add to its numbers, to mold peoples into its own image and into its service. Let us not forget, it was not Heideran, nor peaceful Doriam, who was targeted by the Elder fleet.
But please, allow me the chance to hold the Khanid captive for decades, preferably after their numbers have been drastically reduced, and tell me you would not fight to get them back. On second thought, no. I would not do that.

Blessing's of God upon you Arch-Bishop.
Before I begin, may I say I follow your sermons religiously, and for myself it is a blessing to hear the preachings of a man of God. While my fellow alliance members might be loath to admit it, those of us who recognize our service to our Lord God, do face steep hostility. I have seen several times now the local hidden Chapels in and near Pator attacked and ruined. I have seen prayer groups spat upon and attacked for simply praying in silence.
Our...alliances might be enemies, however it would be the height of foolishness and arrogance to assume your enemy unable to speak the truth. As a Republic, we Minmatar hold freedom as the most important aspect of our lives, so much so that we almost worship the concept as a God.
Yet, as with all false idols, it can corrupt us. We speak of tolerance but only so long as you are intolerant to that which you do not like. We speak of Equality, unless you happen to be more equal then others, we speak of freedom, yet our fears hold us in check.
If we as a people are to uphold the lofty ideals of honest and true freedom, we must ensure that we protect the rights of all our people, that even those who speak out against the Republic are given a chance to freely express their ideas without fear of retribution.
I dare say, from what I have seen of my people, we are capable of this feat. We are capable of living in peace with our neighbors, even the Amarr. The question is, how willing are we to see it through?
-------------------------------------------------- Loyalty is simply slavery of ones own choosing. If ever you have the choice, Choose your master well."

For a little over a year I have been a part of Shakor's war against the Amarr.
I cannot pass comment on the high level goals of the empire, nor do I care to. I can only speak for what I've seen on the battlefield and the words exchanged therein. From this I can tell you that whether or not the Amarr Empire desires peace at its ruling level, the 24th Imperial Crusade very much does not.
That they not once, but twice accepted the help of Caldari insurgents into sovereign Minmatar space without once raising any complaint as they reaped the rewards of caldari perfidiousness stands as a testament to the obvious Amarrian desire for peace. If the Amarr truly desired peace, then a settlement should have been concluded once Minmatar influence had been removed from the areas of Devoid and the Bleak Lands.
I claim no moral superiority here, I merely question your grasping for the moral high ground when your actions mirror those you question yourselves.
