I ACTUALLY follow the forums and dont ask questions that are out there and just a few clicks away.
My question is about the flexibility with the carbon character creation system. Does anyone know if we can change race, sex, and ancestry. As an example I am part of the Gallente faction, Gallente race and I am male, can I be a female Minmatar with an ancestry of tinkerer and if so will that also change on my character sheet?

Could of sworn you were female already... If you didn't tell me you were Gallente, I would of thought you were a woman.

I hope not. Gallente men are REALLY ugly. If we were able to switch races and gender, there wouldn't be any.

The "Carbon Character Creation System" has great flexibility and could probably handle all of these things.
But we won't be allowing things other than customizing your look once Incursion hits.

If the females are hotties, there are bound to be a lot of pretty gallente chicks stuck in ugly achura bodies. I read once that before the remapping there was a reason to go achura but no more.
Having played MMOs since 2004, it seems there are 2 camps in this topic. There is the first camp that creates a character of the opposite sex because what dude wants to look at some dudes butt all day? (since most 3D MMOs tend to be 3rd party viewers) and then there are those who choose the same sex because they don't want to misrepresent. In Eve, being a static 2D picture this has been of no consequence, but I have known real women who play MMOs (yes, they don't only exist in legend and wet dreams of neckbeards) playing female characters and then get monstrously harassed. For that, the ladies I know who played WOW would never use TS or Vent except with people they already knew in RL.
Sad that it has to be that way for some people and I hope CCP does not hesitate to swing the ban hammer real hard on some of those ass hats.
Meanwhile, I think the character re-creation should be wide open. Blizzard was smart: they actually charged for it, and there is another reason why, for moneymaking sense: you can do gender swaps in WOW. Now accounts do change hands. You get one sibling who outgrows the MMO, and hands it off to a younger who is not the same sex. Big bro off to college and little sister wants to play perhaps but does not want to play big burly bearded dwarfs. Right?
The thing is she might have to roll a new char but when you compare a veteran to a noob it's a wide chasm the feels like forever to cross. Eve is more so than the others with this SP system. Allowing a lot of changes can keep an account active.
The difference is that she might still only play for a few months, but that's still $45 more dollars than if the younger sibling looked at the implications of starting from scratch and said "forget it". Also, if CCP charged for it, that could be a few more bucks.
Why would we care? More bucks means more features and bandwidth and more ships. And I am a raving capitalist too.

One could make the arguement that a society with advanced enough medical science to make clones and some of the other wonders present should have no problem with something as trivial as a Sex Change.
But to hell with realism, all that really matters is game play.
PRACTICAL impact on game play should be a big fat zero.
That means its entirely an issue of social impact on the game (if any) and convienence.
I'd say "I don't care" which also means "go for for it".
Play nice while you butcher each other.

Yeah, that's why I'm an achura (for the attributes) instead of an intaki male (which had a base perception of 3 ;( ).

There had been talk in the past of allowing a one-time gender change with this. Did that ultimately get shot down?

how much of our current character portrait can we keep. I've gotten used to what my chars look like, would seem odd to not be able to recreate it to be if not the same than very similar

Are we just doing our faces right now or are we also able to chose our body type/size as well?

Might need/warrant a proposal in the AH that upon character transfers you're able to change gender (for a small extra fee even)?!

There's also a third camp: those of us for whom it really just isn't an issue. It's not more incredible to imagine myself as a character of another gender than it is to imagine myself a starship pilot or an elfin wizard or whatever.
Malcanis' Law: Whenever a mechanics change is proposed on behalf of "new players", that change is always to the overwhelming advantage of richer, older players. |
