Originally by: Amanda Mor I don't even know how to respond to the morality police in this thread. I'm amazed that someone would think the OP got what he deserved.
Let's use a hypothetical example:
-you get annoyed at a fellow corp member who you've only ever talked to on TeamSpeak (the reason is immaterial); you decide to blow up his mission ship to **** him off and cause him to cry and provide tears - this type of stuff happens all the time in Eve, and is routinely celebrated, especially in C&P.
-said corp member tracks down your home address on the internet somehow. He then proceeds to drive to your house, break in and vandalize the place.
Who's the bad guy here? Regardless of how you feel about using game mechanics to pop a corpies mission ship, any reasonable person would say 99.9999999999999999999999999% of the blame lays with the vandalizer.
What's the difference between this example and the OP's case? Obviously, it was the fact that he knew the guy in RL. Alot of the moralizers in this thread say "You shouldn't screw over a friend" - they weren't friends however; the OP said they had a falling out (major lolz at the cliche "bros before hoes" **** too - I think my wife is more important to me than my friends tbh). Popping his CNR is pretty tame compared to what almost everyone of us have done when we got into a fight with a friend (on that note, major lols to the idiot who says one of the reasonable responses was to physically fight it out with the guy rather than *gasp* blow up his fake spaceship)
Regardless of the state of their friendship, how is this different than the guys who get celebrated for posts in C&P about "epic tears" from strangers? They're hoping to cause a RL reaction ("tears") from their actions (often the stated purpose of these players is to get people to ragequit.) - isn't this basically the same as the OP taking a RL issue into the game?
The fact that he knew and hated the guy in RL is irrelevant - in fact, the argument can be made from a moral perspective that the OP was more correct to **** off someone he knew and didn't like and that was acting like a prick in RL, than the guys who do it to strangers who they may like in RL, but I won't go there.
TL;DR OP did a sorta/maybe ****-ish thing in game that is routinely celebrated, and his payback was to be vandalized in RL. Apparently it's his fault...
Difference is OP is complaining about this guys harassing him in RL so rather than try defuse the situation he takes the problem in game and harasses the guy back in EVE and wonders why the guy carries on harrassing him, then somehow thought it'd be a good idea to tell us about the whole thing including how hide behind his girlfriend. Which makes them both idiots. If he just wanted to relieve his agression why not just pop some random missioners CNR.
As for griefing and popping corp mates being valid within the game play of EVE well that's perfectly true - as is directors luring said toon into a trap to pop their pride and joy whilst simultaneously clearing out all their assets, setting their title to 'backstabbing douchebag' before booting them, and getting them blacklisted with half the corps in EVE, all in good fun I say.
If he were smart he'd have paid someone else to do it and got the benefit of knowing his nutcase mate got popped without getting in his corps bad books or getting the guy going any more mental at him than he already was.

Where in the OP did it say "I didn't want to deal with it in RL, so I took it in game instead"? The impression I got was that they were fighting about something, had exchanged numerous texts and other conversations (ie tried to deal with it in RL), and the relationship had deteriorated beyond repair by the time the CNR popping had occured.
I'm wondering why everyone is jumping to the conclusion that the OP didn't try to deal with it in RL, based on basically no evidence.
EDIT: Again, all this is irrelevant - this type of stuff happens all the time, and is generally celebrated; he popped a mission runners CNR using valid game mechanics. An actual physical threat was the result, so why is this guy just as much of an ******* as the psycho ex-friend? ---------------------------------------------- I don't have an alt, but there's a main that would be upset if he heard me say that... |

Missing the point entirely...no one is disputing "game mechanics here", just that the OP is a tool...whose very act of posting this trailer park, swamp people, episode is truly illustrative of his character. As such we can form any opinion of him and his super sexy mace wielding girlfriend we want to, no "evidence"is needed. If you dont want your personal life commented on don't put it in a public forum. BTW why are you defending this trailer snipe? You with the ACLU?

I live in Switzerland. They aren't allowed to keep ammo at home anymore. Most likely because of gun nuts blowing away themselves and other people.

I'm not really defending the guy, I'm just genuinely curious why people think he's a douchebag in this situation, while if he had posted the exact same story in C&P - with the only difference being he didn't know the guy in real life - he'd get a pat on the back, and everyone would be saying the guy breaking into his house was the only ******* in the situation.
Do we question the RL "character" of corp thieves, Jita local scammers or lowsec pirates? Why this guy?
I really don't see the difference. ---------------------------------------------- I don't have an alt, but there's a main that would be upset if he heard me say that... |

I really don't see the difference.
Well his corp granted him the title of 'backstabbing douchebag' before he was booted/quit which is why I used the term. But simple answer is this isn't C&P and a lot of corps frown on that sort of thing, so on this forum at least I'm sure you'd find a lot of people who think toons who backstab their corps are douchebags, though less would dispute it as a valid game within the game. The reason this has got peoples attention is because of how bad this guy fails at RL, to be honest if he'd just podded a random corp mate and stolen the corp wallet (and posted in C&P) he may well have gained some kudos.
I just think the guys and idiot because few problems in life have ever been solved by kicking someone in the nuts so to speak even if it's a pair of CNR shaped virtual nuts. Defusing the situation, or solving the problem (different as it works under the false assumption that there is a solution) is rarely going to be helped along by provoking the person your trying to pacify and making that person angry.
Don't get me wrong I in no way approve of what his psycho mate has done and don't think we should all wander through life trying to appease everyone but you'd have to be an idiot to think that what the OP did was like to improve the situation. Then there's the bit about him being armed and hiding behind his girlfriend which is just funny and ripe for a ribbing. Maybe theres some cultural differences there as well in that to me in the UK if the first thing you resort to is pulling a weapon such as a gun on an unarmed man then you're a bit of coward, and to be ever ready with a weapon as the OP sounds like he was makes that doubly so.

What happened was not his fault and as for his man hood, this guy shoved a women out of the way to get in to avenge a video game loss. Pathetic and I am glad she got to get this freak back first!
I hope Mr B&E and Assault over a video game gets his due!
Eve falls under the category of favorite toy. Seriously, OP instead of being a passive aggressive ***** should have again either 1.) talked it out, 2.) fought it out 3.) just stopped associating with him.
If a friend of mine has beef with me, and does something like slash my tires, or break my favorite toy, instead of confronting me directly. Of course he is going to get lumped up for his troubles. There are men, and then there are girls with *****' OP falls under the second category.

You forget that this was his RL friend. From what i understand of this post OP's girlfriend had beef with B&E, so OP decided to screw over his RL friend B&E through eve (break his toy) instead of talking it out or what not. B&E came over and tried to make lumpy OP, but OP GF saved him.
OP is basically crying that he took out of game problems, in game, and cried when he received out of game agro.
Again, OP got lucky that his GF was there to save him. OP got what he deserved.
