It's so frustrating getting stuck in an asteroid filled.What's the best technique to get unstuck and continue to move in the direction I want to head into? Also, what causes us getting stuck?

The asteroid is working in conjunction with the pirates trying to hold you in place until they arrive & destroy your ship. Basically you're screwed...

1. Try logoff-logon - maybe your ship will warp away and bounce of an asteroid on login warp-back?
2. Self destruct if the ship is not expensive - it might help.
3. Petition under "stuck" category and take a nap until GMs move to help ypu.

Depending on what you mean by stuck, you should just be able to set speed to 0 (be sure to wait until it actually hits zero, 5 seconds or so depending on agility, inertia etc)
Then move in the opposite direction to the object trapping you.
This will get you out of those situations where for example, you are trying to warp but are bouncing around, or you are caught between two objects and they are bouncing you around.
If you mean stuck as in, inside an asteroid or something then logging should solve that. |

Turn the camera to look at an area away from the asteroid, preferably a direction with no other ones in the way. Then double click in open space to start flying in that direction.
As mentioned already, logging off usually works quite well as you fly back in and should bounce of the asteroid instead of going back to the spot.

As above, if you are well and truely bugger**** stuck, log out for at least 2 minutes (No aggression timer, 15 minutes with a timer) and you'll unstick.
If you mean "beating the nose of your ship against something trying to warp to something behind it" style stuck - quit flying like a numpty. Warp in the opposite direction, or manually fly around the obstruction first.

If you've already pressed warp and find yourself stuck then you need to stop before you can manually fly away from the roid.
CTRL + Space is the shortcut for stop.
The stop button on the speed gauge might work too but I've never tried it.

If you get a message "You can not do that while warping" when you try to stop your ship, logging off is the only option to get unstuck. That usually happens at warp gates to deadspace pockets though.
Don't warp to 0 on a belt anymore, and don't get into clusters of roids next time :P

Try Ctrl-Spacebar instead of Ctrl-Q

1. Stop your ship.
2. It's often hard to find a piece of open sky because of visual effects, but give it a try.
3. Fly in that direction.
4. If you get hung up again, change your aiming point.
It's frustrating, but not as frustrating as getting an Obelisk stuck in the wall of a station, so you can't get 'behind' it to aim it and have to guess.

wait until clear of obstacles
try to warp again.
Once saw a hulk stuck on some asteroids for 2+ hours- was fun watching it while we emptied the rest of the belt. Reported as a macro because any player would have just mined the offending rocks.
