Where i can see real numbers of the subscribers? If the client dont lies - there are daily more ppl online at the same time, but on the other side xfire tells "less subscribers" :/
[xfire is pretty neutral - there is no reason to fake anything for them and they are right about star trek as well..... cough] :|
Im worried :<

The graph could be just showing relative trends, (which for all MMOs is a decline over the summer) but the figures only apply to STO. Aion has millions of subscribers. As the lines for all the other games match up suspiciously well (i.e. the same peaks and troughs) i would say its fake anyway.

As of 3 months ago: http://cdn1.eveonline.com/community/QEN/QEN_Q2-2010.pdf
Page 8 shows that there were almost 350,000 active accounts. I think it fair to say that EVE is showing some signs of following the real economy. Subscriber base went flat in late 2008 as the global economies tanked. It came roaring back in early 2009 as it seemed we avoided the brink. It has then been fairly flat with small increaes around new releases.
Certainly not if any large scale decline.

It could just be a general decline in xfire users, or their sampling might by biased in some way (it's self-selected in any case, which is a problem, but their might be other less glaring issues).

A more plausible conclusion would be that xfire is dying

Given all MMOs show a decline, I am inclined to think Xfire is dying as well.
It is too bad STO died, I never got around to trying it out, but I had a lot of hope for it.

I'm not convinced that Eve is showing a decline, actually.

i played STO
its decent. not best ST game but not worst. (one day it COULD be a good one....)
The mayor problem is to find ur way to ur mission. Its not like eve (where u got a nice path)- its more like "search and remember every system/planet name!" And 95% action game. Than u got some wow style "upgrading stuff with items" a few skills and thats it.
Nothing special. Graphics and Gameplay remember on "star trek armada". Just image ur one of the ships u usual command - so its pretty boring :| (and btw the chatt is pure spam)
I got so borred after few days and gave my accout away.
Klingon Academy >>> STO :p

i was really hoping STO would be a success... that way we'd only need a BSG mmo, then EVE would finally be free of these dorks =p

There are like 50 games. Goods: Armada, KlingonAcademy, Birth of the Federeation, Starfleet Command, Elite Force, Dominion Wars AND THATS IT. (star trek borg never came out-.-)
Decent: STO
RLY BAD ONES: Everything left-.- Bridge Builder, New Worlds and "Der Austand" are the worst - and may some of the worst i ever played.

Star Trek Online is at the same time the worst MMO and the best.
The worst because it is, well, crap in all aspects. Repetitive, no social aspect, half-arsed, incomplete and has no endgame. Add to it the fact that Cryptic and Atari are trying to squeeze every penny out of its subscribers by asking for microtransactions on top of normal subscription and offering a lot of game balance changing content in the microtransactions store. Because that always works out so well.
What is the best part about STO, you ask? Well, the fact that after spending money on that pile of crap and being shafted by Cryptic on every turn I finally turned around and got myself an Eve Online account.
I still pop into STO from time to time, hoping for an improvement only to see microtransactions store become fatter and more expensive and the missing parts of the game remain missing.

Well, I am sure there is a decline atm, but that is because the previous rise was pretty big.
You can check out my site for numbers ( the EVE numbers I got are official, directly from CCP ). http://users.telenet.be/mmodata/Charts/Subs-2.png
Homepage is here : MMOData.net
Currently slacking with updates due to playing EVE and such :p
Now xfire can be a tool to find out trends and such, but it can never be used as the sole point of information regarding subscription numbers. Finally I don't see a major decline in players on xfire, just the expected decline after EVE went from 329969 subs to 361389 subs, this was the biggest increase month over month in the history of EVE, I ( and also CCP ) expected a dip after this. I am confident that when lag gets fixed and the new expansion is released we will peak again.
So tl;dr version : EVE is dying again :p

'Course, you have to literally slice the number of "subscribers" in half (or more) to get an accurate number of individual people who play EVE, since the vast majority of people have two or more accounts... and those who have only a single account are compensated for by those who have five, eight, ten or even more accounts.
