I feel sorry for the poor devs that need to check every topic to see if it needs to be locked. They always have to work double-time when the servers are down.

Yeah, gotta love crunchtime when things go wrong. Its part of the business, and frankly: It's the spirit of game dev!
If only the big publishers wouldnt abuse that tradition to increase their profit. ____________________________________ touch the legacy code, touch the legacy code!!! |

You could argue, if they did their job correctly, they wouldn't have to work behind.

Have you ever had a job?

Considering how little they've changed and nothing important at that AND that they make us wait months for important updates, **** them and their poor workmanship. Do the job right and you won't have problems. They have a server to test this on, they allegedly have a QA department, it's a joke.
I can't think of anyone that would say positive things about the general workmanship that goes into EVE besides idiots and CCP employees.

My experience in that business tells me that usually having developers work till late of the night is a clear indicator that management failed dramatically. Because if they would have done their job correctly, they would have tested the stuff on Monday, applied a fix on Tuesday, re-tested on Wednesday and we would have a nice and dandy patch today.
But usually you have such managers storm into the room 5 minutes before release, demanding that "this one feature" just has to be implemented as well and right now and afterwards blame it on the devs with something like "Well if you would have done it right, you wouldn't have to sit here till late at night!".

Vey true mate. Projects often fail cause of bad project management and scheduling, and not always because of incompetent coders / QA. ____________________________________ touch the legacy code, touch the legacy code!!! |

the only reason they would stay till 8pm is for the fringe benefits like free beer that we're paying for. that's why the game is so screwed up. drunk devs don't code very well. --
