It seems there is a problem with the latest Tyranis 1.1 patch.
Both myself, and a good friend, are IT professionals. We keep our xp install extremely clean, and up to date. We also have different graphics cards, so this does not appear to be client side, outside of the eve client itself.
Both of us have had the EVE client crash, numerous times now, since the patch. Often during missioning... So much so that we will not mission solo until a 1.11 patch is released or something.
Anyone else having problems please post here.
DEVS, please address this?
(Outside of the crashing issue, it seems many other rough edges exist on this patch, including reversed ^ arrow sorting of lists in some cases, and column width issues being lost etc etc)
Overall I've been impressed by the technical work done recently, but this one IS NOT ready for production release.

I also had the overload module bug happen...
I almost lost some pith b hardeners as a result!
I DID NOT turn on overloading, but it turned itself on anyway :( This patch is really bad, very very poor testing, if any even happened.

I've had a couple of crashes and tracked it down to an overheating graphics card. The new patch seems to be far more graphics intense than before. Prior to the patch when running two accounts, with a moniitor on each card the utilisation was around 50% and 9% respectively now it aound 80% and 45%.
I've improved the airflow around the cards and all appears to be OK now.

Well, now a new patch to patch the patch of the 1.1 patch is out...
I have not installed it - based on recent ccp history - and early reports that it messes up MOAR stuff...
ALSO NON-EXISTANT patch notes for it are 100% scary. Zero information about what it fixes? They said they'd release them at patch time. But that seems to not have happened?
Who is surprized?
notice "SHELLEXEC?" why?

Ever since the second optional patch, mine is crashing whenever I click on the overview, but mostly, just out of nowhere... I've been able to keep it running a max of a couple minutes, and as soon as I click on something in the overview, crash to desktop. I don't think it is graphics related, because I put my client on all of the lowest settings, just to see if it made any difference.... none so far. I also cleaned out the machonet folder, and even deleted the entire local settings tranquility folder, to no avail. |

Probably not eve-mail in my case. I never touched it. Here are my gory details for those who are interested.
At first I thought it was a graphics glitch related to Amarr style gates, because some of them still are displayed for me with white blobs for the textures, and the game crashed the first time just as I was coming out of warp to an Amarr type of gate.
I restarted, my ship began to warp back, and same thing... crash as soon as I came out of warp. This happened several times, as I tried cleaning out machonet, and renaming the ...\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\e_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility directory and logging back in after each thing I tried. One time, it crashed before I even started warping back, my ship was just aligning.
I was able to log in as another character that was in a station. I didn't test everything, but I think I opened the market successfully and decided it was related to something in space. I did not try the eve-mail, though.
So then, I turned my graphics settings on the lowest at the login screen, and I managed to get through the gate with autopilot, and by facing the camera away from the gate, still thinking I'd be okay, if I could just get past that gate. It still crashed though, before I saw that I had jumped through.
Then, I logged back in, noticed I was through the gate, and decided it must be okay now. I clicked on the next gate I wanted to warp to on the overview, and crash.
Next time, I started the autopilot and got through 3 more gates. I hoped things might be okay now... I suspiciously clicked on the overview, and... crash.
I'm probably going to end up reinstalling, but I hate to go through that if I don't know what the problem is. If I don't know what the problem is there is no guarantee that even a reinstall is going to fix it. Anyway... good luck to the rest of you.

NO, sadly to say, CCP is NOT getting the message. Client crashes are a problem, as with many other issues that have been stated time and again. My wife lost a ship the other night because of a comp freeze up and ultimate crash. What was CCP's response? And I cut and paste this one:
"Hi,
We are sorry to hear about your ship loss. Unfortunately we are unable to reimburse the ship as our server-side logs do not indicate that a bug/error within the game or a server related problem was the reason for your loss.
This does not mean that we doubt your description of events in any way but I'm afraid it keeps our hands tied in regards to reimbursement. Our reimbursement policies are very strict and we can only reimburse if we are able to verify that a bug or server error caused the loss.
We hope that you understand our position and that you will recover swiftly from the loss.
Best regards, GM Horse EvE Online Customer Service Support "
Our response:
"GM Horse,
Thank for your reply, but before you write this request off. Can you honestly tell me that after this last patch, all incidents of unstable clients register server side indications? If so then your logs must be horrendous. However I am willing to bet your logs have no way of showing computer errors generated client side BECAUSE of CCP's lack of comprehensive testing BEFORE releasing patches. The problems generated by your 1.1 release are not acceptable. CCP's lack of willingness to mitigate the impact of those problems on the player base makes it even worse.
I find your lack of willingness to correct errors unacceptable. Stand your ground on this if you must. However I strongly suggest that your "reimbursement policies" need to be revisited. This is not a case of just following a policy, this is a case of refusing legitimate customer support."![Mad](/images/icon_mad.gif)
I will not bore you folks with the other details, but trust me when I say "NO CCP is NOT getting the picture here." My wife and I have gone to the extreme to make sure our clients are in good working order. We both have two accounts, and run separate clients for each account on separate directories. We down load fresh clients at major patches to make damn sure the client has not degraded in anyway. Hmmm...I wonder why we may feel the need to do that? We are not noobs, have plenty to learn mind you, but sure as hell are not noobs...to the game or computers.![Mad](/images/icon_mad.gif) We are sick and tired of the unwillingness of CCP to respond to legitimate customer problems. Hell this one ship is not a loss we can not recover from, but the idea that CCP hides behind some pin head rule to keep themselves all warm and cozy in their cubicles infuriates the hell out of me. In all my years of playing Eve I have only asked for one ship to be replaced, and I was denied because the "all seeing" devs could not see any logic in my request. STRIKE ONE! Now my wife has a completely legitimate customer request and she is turned down. STRIKE TWO! One more time where CCP displays this kind of "developer arrogance" in response to a legitimate request...well it will be strike three I am sorry to say. But I will refuse to support an organization that displays such arrogance to the customer base. But alas they will still win. It will be us who will lose in the end product after investing so much time, cash, and effort into a game while building up our characters...well hey it was fun while it lasted anyway. Right now I do not have a high confidence level that CCP gives a rip. In my opinion they talk a good game, but are severely lacking on the "walking the talk" side of the equation.

Since today's 3rd(?) minipatch, I am having disconnects all the time.
I can log in as usual but after no longer than 5 minutes, both clients I am running (from 2 different installations/folders) just shut down. No error messages, just a few seconds of lag before the clients disappear.
I have not changed any settings, hard- or software since yesterday and it worked perfectly then. I also have to agree with the thread opener on the "rough edges" of the patch. Are you guys at CCP desperately looking for new ways to **** us off?

After this third mini patch, My client has crashed and been unable to open again. I haven't had a single crash since I installed the game 1 month ago, now all of a sudden I can't even start the log in screen after it crashed. I also can't repair, a message appears saying it's missing some file, but won't show me the log.

One assumes they are doing their best to solve the issues. However in the light of CCP's current allocation of team resources it is clear that bringing new content/expansions is of more import to them than making sure the CURRENT game is in good working order. In my opinion anyway....so now after this last patch?
When I undock my overview is now showing double gates and such. All I have to do is switch to a different tab, like from PvP tab to Mission Tab, and the problem goes away. *shakes head* Every time I undock Big deal? No...Huge inconvenience? Not yet really...but the accumulative effect of all the problems and my experience with customer support...well it is really starting to chap my hide.
I dislike the reference here but I feel I must make it since it was CCP that created the video and thereby created the Eve working standard:

Same issue here. I got random crashes once a day or so for a while and put it down to connection issues.
However, during the last hour, my client crashed 6 or 7 times. No error message, it just closed and that was that. Would be highly interested in a solution as well. So far I have only missed kills - but as soon as I start losing ships and get canned responses about how the logs show no server side fault, I'll seriously reconsider my subscription, too.

They won't refund your ship for client-end problems. For all anyone knows it coincided with your memory going bad, and as a result your client crashed (not saying that's what happened, but you get my point).
Companies only ever refund when it's a server-side error, as those are the only errors they can verify. ---

Yes, you can uninstall the "optional" patch. Go to General Settings, and at the bottom of the center column there's a button to uninstall. I've only tried it for #4; I plan to check it for the other three as well, and uninstall those.
Taking bets on how long my post lasts before it's deleted. I had another complain about disconnects in another thread that magically vanished, so let's see if this one lives.

I had the same thing, crashing after a minute or less all the time.
However after getting annoyed and playing something else I ended up doing my bad habit of cleaning my computer (it's a bad habit cause I end up doing it every hour or so).
So after running CCleaner I opened Defraggler (Disk DeFragmentation tool) and I noticed hundreds of fragmented EVE files.
Long story short, I haven't had one crash since I defragged EVE.
Don't know if this helps everyone but it helped me.
Cheers =)

Same, random disconnects for me. Usually seconds in to connecting with the server. Client reboots automatically but won't allow a connection, saying "The socket was closed". Has anyone reinstalled the most recent client w/o the optional patch to see if that works? I'm thinking of trying it. Glad I came back after two years to this, of all things. |
