So it's been 3 days since the release of the original patch. Since that day I have not been able to logon to Eve.
My problem is associated with the inability of the eve client to download the bulk data. I get stuck on 5/46 for may be 2 seconds and then the client crashes and restarts itself.
For those amongst you that will jump on the "what have you done to resolve the problem" band wagon I have done the following: 1. Been patient for over 24 hours trying to logon 2. Created a petition that last received attention from a GM over 24 hours ago 3. I have logged a bug report.
So to further try and catch the attention of CCP to assists me in my plight I have decided to create this wining thread.
If CCP could perhaps provide me with an alternate location download the bulk data from or the same location but an alternate method like ftp that support resuming. Surely that could help, what i do know is that the client is not able to download the bulk data and as a result I am not able to logon.
I have even attempted installing the latest patch but the results are exactly the same.
So what my intention is with this thread is to post every 10th time i attempt a logon and fail.
Shall we see how many posts i get to before the thread is either locked or CCP attends to my problem.

Fixed that for you. They already have their money. They want yours. But anyway, regardless of what I said before this, you should remember that only about 1 in 20 of my posts have any real purpose. |

A GM actually replied to you 12 minutes ago so perhaps that reply will help with your problem.

If this resolves the problem i will be more than happy to share the fix, that is also depending on if CCP will allow me to do so ? Not to sure about the forum rules in that regard.

If you're still stuck, have you tried running the EvE Client in administrator mode? I once had this problem and that fixed it for me. I'm on a horse. |

Edited by: WaywardWizard on 02/10/2010 17:54:10 The current result is that i am still not able to logon.
I have not attempted to run EvE in Administrator mode since my operating system is Windows XP not Windows 7. Also once the bulk data is downloaded EvE runs just fine with no problems, the challenge lies in downloading that data before the client crashes.
PS: I have started taking a sip of wine per failed logon attempt thus my posts might degenerate even further as my intoxication level rises.

Just wondering ...
Have you been trying to install EVE from scratch? And that is not working?
3 days is a long time of waiting.

I have thought about erasing eve and totally re-installing it, but i am overseas and the internet connection here is terrible. It might take me days to get it re-installed. I am hoping to not have to do that. I am very thankful that i have a long training in. It looks like it might be a while before i get back on.

Edited by: Aera Aiana on 02/10/2010 18:13:00 Did you try to clear the cache? It's located in C:\Documents and Settings\your-login-name\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\c_program_files_eve_tranquility\cache (or similar, depending on your language settings). Just delete the entire cache folder. This will not cause you to lose your EVE settings. - Don't let the trolls stop you from giving a helpful reply. :) |

just took a step back. I was getting to 45 out of 46 in the bulk data before I crashed, now I crash just as soon as I hit 5...
is there no way to download the bulk data off line?

OK raise your hands to the heavens above i have finally managed to logon.
SO for anyone that is still having this issues the following was the sequence of events.
Patch day - I tried to logon and got the bulk data 5/46 problem, I have had the problem before and decided to wait a day before attempting logon again since that resolved the problem the previous time.
Next day I tried to logon and still got the same error I then created a petition and the GM advised that i should attempt to clear my cache, this DOES NOT WORK I backed up my cache and tried to logon several times before restoring my cache files since it was obviously not the solution.
Next day i created a bug report with as much detail as i could provide after not being able to logon. I then started posting on the forum since I had not received an additional feedback.
GM contacted me shortly after starting the post on the forum and suggested i delete my cache directory and run the repair tool, this i did and I was unsuccessful another 12 times before i managed to finally logon.
So in conclusion, deleting your cache files is not the solution since that would only affect your in game experience and since your not logged on yet it's pointless to remove it. Rather try to remove the bulk data folder in the same directory as your eve online installation and run the repair tool.
Then once again try and be patient and continue to attempt to logon.
That's the only advise i have and it's the sequence of events over the last 3 days. I hope that it will help someone else that is currently experiencing the same problem to logon.

I'm glad that it's working for you. I remember that when I had this problem about an year ago, someone posted a zip file with the bulkdata folder and this did the trick. From searching a solution at the time, it seemed that the problem was quite common so I wonder if it wouldn't be easier for everyone - both us and CCP for them to simply post a copy of the bulkdata folder online with each patch so we could download it separately.
