Hello. I activate the passive targeter, left click on a ship, and then do nothing else. The targeter runs one cycle and switches off. I check to see if repeat cycling is "on" and it is. I then try again, but turn on a scanner. The targeter cycles once, then turns off.
No matter what I try, the targeter will only cycle once, then turn off. In that one cycle, there is virtually no time to do anything. The little passive targeter icon appears next to the ship's icon, but only for that single cycle.
If it only lasts for one cycle, what good is a passive targeter?
Thank you! |

My understanding is that is how they work. If you activate an offensive module they'll see you have them locked. Ship/cargo scanners will work and they won't see you have them locked. It "deactivates" so that you can lock another ship passively.
It's been a long time since I've used them, but you can test them out on a friend.

My understanding is it's only passive while module is active. This is why t2 has twice the activation duration. Also believe that you must unlock the target prior to module duration end or target will be notified you targeted them.

I'm pretty positive that Templar is correct, Das.
The double time on the T2 version may just give you more time to clickity click while the module is active. If you miss the window, the target now knows you're locking them.
If it were on auto-repeat, you could just leave it on and scan any and everyone who comes by without them knowing (you know, if they're too dumb to know what the scanning effect looks like). Without auto-repeat, it takes a marginal amount of extra brain power to find the right target for your suicide gank...

I think that it is, you have to be finished targeting the person within that one cycle. So if you are in a BS, targeting a frig, and it takes you longer to target the frig then a full cycle of the passive targeter, then they will still see that you targeted them.
