me and a few corp mates where talking about bombers and covert ops going afk i cloaked in system. I know that this is normal and the reason for bombers is to emulate subs in ww1 and ww2. but if that is true what is there not a sensor ping or something like a sonar or some way to combat afk covet pilots. a sensor ping that you could fit to your ship that has a base rang of say 30 km the range of a bomber bomb and increasing at like 5% or 10% with with skills something like a smart bomb but farther range and no damage just a an overview Eco or them losing cloak but to make it fare for other ships like covert hauler bake the cycle time like 30 or 45 seconds

The medium would not have to be matter it could be energy solar winds background radiation anything really something that makes contact to the hull of the ship hell space dust. or it could be a something like a emp pulse that disrupts the cloak but not disable it

Don't forget that you don't know that submarines are there until you find one. So remove local from 0.0 as well.

i agree with the no local too but they would probably say that local is linked to star gates and that's how every person is identified buy a Vin code on there pod so in wh space no gates no local

More on the topic: AFK cloaks are in becoming a real scourge in the universe. I fly bombers myself from time to time but just sitting in a solar system for days afk or semi-afk just to kill 1 maybe 2 ships is just...well... lame/stupid/ridiculous (pick one or more).
And to be honest I'd like for the local to go away but with a (semi?)replacement as well since spamming the directional scanner all the time is also just stupid and annoying. But the local definitely has to go it's a complete immersion breaker. Unfortunatly that will take another decade or so (being optimistic here) but my guess is when that happens cloakers will receive a revamp too since without local they are just way overpowered. Until then I think we just have to live with it the way it is... unfortunately :/ |

i actually love this game mechanic of being able to afk cloak in a system all day with enemys not being able to do anything about it and i want local in null sec to stay the way it is.
i have used this tactic many times to shut corporations or small alliances down that i didnt like. being able to send a handfull of pilots into a system and just sit afk and attack miners and ratters for weeks (once 3 months strait) is a fair mechanic. and making them kknow im in local instills fear into them, causing them not to rat or make isk.

i'm talking about evening the field not totally getting rid of afk covert ships. from them just a way to defend your self when ratting or minning from them attacking you by being able to see them at say 75 km or so with max skills fare enough out where you have a chance to get out not saying that there has to be more work on the idea but it is a good one so just don't dismiss it

Just make it so that local is there, but you don't see everyone in the room. Make it like other chat channels - only show those who speak up. This will help combat lag, but you should introduce a way to scan for cloaked targets (modules can be expensive, scanning a time-intensive task, or only fittable on certain vehicles & POS installations, of course). 
Actually, CCP should develop an "intel" system/game-mechanic that allows us to tag individuals, track them, and list if you're in the same system as known criminals, etc. That would be cool. No more using local for intel.

not sure how an idea about a mod to help defend against bombers turn in to a local debate anyways had an new idea a script for smart bombes to increasing there range but lowering the dps
