I think this came up a long time ago when I had just played a year or so, meaning like 4 years ago now.
Why do industrials have so much CPU? eg. the Iteron Mark V has 1062 cpu with Electronics V. seems to fit with all other indys too, the t2 versions not though.
So was there ever found a reason to why they have so much excess CPU? One image per sig and please be EVE related. Zymurgist |

Do a search for the Battle Badger, and you might understand why.
Industrials are surprisingly useful for more than hauling when in the right hands.

I looked it up, despite that, the CPU use: 300-400 / 1250 So even when used to not-so-inteded purposes it still doesnt even use half the CPU One image per sig and please be EVE related. Zymurgist |

Back in the day cargo expanders and other hull mods required tons of CPU and Indy ships were givin high CPU to be able to fit them. You will notice their T2 counter parts don't have the insane amount of CPU their T1 counter parts do.

If I remember correctly, indies were originally intended to fill some other role besides hauling. The excess CPU was for a module that was for that purpose. Although, I can't for the life of me remember was it did...
Anyway, they scrapped that idea and just focused it on haulin'.

Being called 'Industrials', they were planned to be able to fit an 'industrial' module that required hefty CPU to fit.
This module never arrived, and was probably forgotten about once Orcas arrived

nah.
it was forgotten a couple of years after release, when they started to seed conquerable stations in nullsec. ---

Grimpak is probably right. Afaik there's never been any possible fit that can use all the CPU on an industrial. --- 34.4:1 mineral compression |

Hrm. I think that we need a new module, then. Mass-processing mainframe. Allows you to run automated gambling programs in space, weighted in the house's favor.
More seriously, I do think that some use for it should be found. Even if it's just wedging something ridiculous on them, like a Sigil with a Tach on a spinal mount.

I use it to fit a bunch of ECM, personally. I don't recall offhand if I use _all_of the cpu or not, but a full bank of ECM going off on a pirate has saved me a few times when it was some **** in a rifter instead of someone using an alpha-strike gank.
Then, I'm not really a dedicated indy pilot, so maybe there's something better? ---

This is something I've also wondered. I've asked quite a few people in game, but none of them knew the reason, so I just dismissed it.
But I still don't understand why these ships have CPU outputs approaching (and exceeding) that of Super Capitals...

CCP had some vague idea that industrials would fit special high cpu modules that never materialized. They forgot about it long before the Orca.

Back when I started it still was common knowledge. They were intended to fit manufacturing and ore processing modules so you could set up a mobile operation around the asteroid belts. The modules for it required a lot of CPU. It got canned.
The high CPU isn't the only leftover. If you set EVEmon to show non-public skills, you can find Mobile Factory Operation (5) and Mobile Refinery Operation (4) in the Industry category, which were the intended skills for the modules.

I read that someplace, thinks its best anwser..
But the real reason is Industrials are so slow and boreing to fly CCP decieded onboard entertainment was needed in the way of gameing (you should play Crysis on the Badger holodeck you literly are standing inside it) Thats what i think anyway..
