Actually, speaking as a recovering Teenage Atheist, I find the descriptor very apt. Atheism is very much something people grow out of with maturity, if not with age. Put simply, Atheism is a simple and unsophisticated belief system well suited to teenaged rebellion. I say this because it is a philosophy which does not make an effort to define itself except as being in oposition to other belief systems. The only thing one needs to do to be an Atheist is to profess a strong disbelief in God, and typically ridicule those who believe differently. There are many non-theistic belief systems which are fairly nuanced and sophisticated, such as nihilism, humanism, and even shudder objectivism, and many more philosophies which can function well with or without the existence of God (really, there are plenty of Religious Humanists in the world). But Atheism isn't one of these. Particularly on the Internet, Atheism is unfortunately the NO U of philosophies. I'm sure you disagree, and feel that your beliefs are, in fact, not defined by your relationship to theistic beliefs, but I would point to the fact that in your own post, where you claim to have "no issue with people of faith" you also state that there is a "well documented" (citation needed) correlation between intelligence and Atheism (implying a similiar inverse corelation between intelligence and theistic beliefs), as well as referring to theistic beliefs as "believing in fairy tales." I would disagree with the notion that you don't have a problem with people of faith. I think that your belief system is that you have a problem with people of faith, and that there is little else to it. In any event, I may have left it out in my initial post: Hurrah for charity! Go, go, go, CCP and OP!
