Currently using: Bantam 2 * Mining I lasers with no extra's. I'm hauling with an industrial so i'm OK cargo-wise atm.
But i need a ship that can mine a tad faster. So wich ship can I use best between the Bantam and Apocalypse stage of the mining game? Preferably a Caldari or a Galente ship. Cargo doesn't matter as long as it can contain 1 whole cycle of ore so I can drop it in my cargo container.

Edited by: irata on 04/01/2005 13:01:28 Osprey. It has a nice mining bonus for each lvl of Caldari cruiser skill. You can fit three Miner II's on it and one heavy launcher to defend yourself. It's a very nice mining ship, sorta looks like a big vacuum cleaner too

Edited by: Kunoichi on 04/01/2005 13:01:42 i would go for the thorax, you can fit 5 mining lasers II + carry 8 heavy drones for defense.

osprey, if your in a high enough sec area you won't need many drones for defence. The osprey can also mine faster than the thorax.

Osprey it is... I'm closest to the required skills for flying one of those. Any other things i would need to take into account, apart from it being one of the more expensive cruisers? Oh and i mine in .9 .8 space mostly, so apart from the occasional pirate i'm ok.

Now a Maller/Rupture/Thorax, those are expensive for a cruiser.
Seeing as how you're mining in 0.8 and 0.9, you won't see player pirates. In 0.9 you also won't see any NPC pirates. Your only concern is Ore Thieves.
I'd advice to train for an Industrial as well (seeing as how you're getting an Osprey, I'd say go for the Badger mk 1 for now). Mine in a jetcan and haul the minerals to a station yourself.
You may want to check if you can earn more isk by selling the raw ores instead of the refined minerals. Many players with good standings and refining skills offer very good prices for ores, especially for Scordite. One unit scordite is worth around 13,2 isk with perfect refining skills and perfect standings.
Without good standings and refining skills, one unit of refined scordite translates into only around 11 isk. Quite a difference, seeing as how an Osprey mines 2700 or so units per minute.
Oh, and finally, don't fall into the trap of wanting to mine 'better' ore in lower sec space. Scordite is still the most profitable ore you can mine all the way up to Jaspet, mostly due to the ever low Mexallon price.

As mentioned, get the osprey.
It's one of the best cruisers for mining, full stop.
If you get your frigate skill to level 4, then get cruiser to level 3, maybe 4, you will get more benefit from using the osprey than training related mining skills.
Also it has good sized drone space for a caldari cruiser, and if you put 4 hammerheads in there (drones 4, scout drones 1) then you will be able to defend yourself down to .4 without needing to think about it.
As has been mentioned, you can also fit 3 miner IIs and a missile launcher for additional defence.

The vexor is also a good miner. I use 4 miner 2's on mine, and the cargo is good enough to not have to worry about mining to a can and getting a hauler all the time. If I'm making a run of ammo or something, I can go out and get a load or two and not worry about it.
The large number of drones gives good protection, too. I use a small remote armor rep on my combat setup, though I haven't tried this on the mining setup. This might be useful in keeping the drones working longer.

> Halfway There YAY! If you are in caldari space, feeling generous, will flog one to you for what you got and 130k units of scordite.
> Haven't met those... I like to mine in roidfields not often used.
Good idea, that's what I do, find and end system - very little traffic.
>Check on the Badger :) flying one of those already Train up for the badger mk2, much better, not much more expensive, and can hold a lot more.
>I noticed, was mining Pyroxerxes (sp?) , took me much longer and didn't earn me much more. Once you get into a larger ship which mines faster, then you will be able to get more from mining pyrox, it has a larger ore size, which means that you need more volume to refine.
