Hey all, Evemon just announced it needs a new developer. I figured this should get a bit more attention than just on Battleclinic and Twitter. Here's a link to the BC forums: http://forum.battleclinic.com/index.php/topic,122218

Yeah, that was my gut reaction too... but it's a really big part of the Eve community. I don't have a huge amount of .NET experience or I'd strongly consider helping out despite its affiliation with Battleclinic.

Except that I've never seen a real developer do that. Usually we're reaching for the mountain dew and saying things like "What idiot wrote this and why wasn't it refactored 14 releases ago?" --Vel

The reasons for my dislike of Battleclinic are fairly well known. They are many and varied, but not limited to disliking the people that run Battleclinic and the horrific ignorance it breeds and encourages throughout the Eve community. However I'd prefer to keep the thread about Evemon and its need of a new developer, though certainly the people you'd have to have contact with plays into that conversation.

Oh, and now that Adobe has relaxed its guidelines I can export iPad & iPhone apps directly from Flash CS5!

Totally off topic: But you can make iPhone apps from Flash?
Then I realized I know about as much about Flash and AS as I do Xcode and Obj-C...

Two things: - Your sentence, was really, hard, to, parse because, of all, the misplaced, commas, and, may have, accidentally been a, run on, sentence, or maybe even, an, incomplete, thought, if you, potentially, might have been, thought of, to have, ever, had a, complete thought, before, in your life, maybe. - Please stay on topic. I very deliberately avoided getting into specifics of why Battleclinic could do oh so much better.

I, too, am going to place my hat in the "Battleclinic Sucks" corner. Crap site, crap people. EveMON is only good thing from the site and I am just waiting for something better/different to come along so I can never go to that crap site again.
That all said, good luck at getting a dev, because EveMon is truely a diamond in the turd that is Battleclinic.
Oh, and while I am here... F U battleclinic for making me login to see killboard. Seriously. -----------------------------------

I hate it because it uses a very pervasive killboard system that pretty much fetches everything like pacman in a labyrinth catching the pills, and makes me register to check mails. It also inflates (or deflates) your ego by providing said killmails in a larger, broader view that makes EVE look like CS in space, and the people there caring less about fixing fakemails.
but most of all, I hate it because many people think the setups there are good.

The only thing I've seen for people to hate about battleclinic is the fact they're not RPers. Which is why I have been faithfully buying GTC's from them for almost 4 years, and donated to the site 3 times. Why battleclinic? Because they focus on Eve and Eve-like/related games, unlike shattered****hole.

Ha! I normally tell whoever I'm pairing with that I have this sinking feeling about who wrote this piece of code. But TBH you guys shouldn't beat yourselves up too much - part of the reason you're hired is to accomplish goals in a reasonable time frame. Sometimes it means that your code will be less than stellar, and sometimes it's a learning experience where you learn why that approach doesn't work.
Also, bump. You can never have too many developers on such an awesome open source project. You too can help the Eve community in a fundamental way!
