Anyone wanna put together a small ganksquad of our own and fly out there with me?

Well gatecamping is lame behavior. Half the time your dead before the screen loads. But thats besides the point. Its .4 and there is risk there. If this was in .5 or above I'd be screaming "ban the jerks" but in this case its .4 or below and its "dangerous space". There is a clear division between what is safe space and what is not (here that Mining Barge Killers?). CCP should do everything they can to protect you in .5 or above but .4 and below your fair game.
Now for this blockade. How about some details? Character names? Ship types? Corp names involved? Some details would be nice there are probably all kinds of corps that would like to go waste these guys just for fun. After all this is a PvP game. So who are they?

Aw crap... Hagilur is where I keep all of my stuff. Thanks for warning me. Luckily I have instajumps for that whole area, since it's my base of operations.

i guess it's loot corp. and, yes, there are tons of people interested in playing the rols of the vigilante. it's just too bad that the game doesn't support honest retribution and instead bolsters the ability to play the criminal. i know it's a PVP game, and i would ask: is criminal aggression the only form of combat PVP? nope. so why is it the only one focused on?
i know that CCP are taking steps to flesh out the criminal flagging. and it's a slow process and one that needs to evolve over time. but, there needs to be something done so that players can fight back against tactics like this. a gatecamp is not even fair at all. not in the PVP sense at least. most people refer to gatecamping the 0.0 chokepoints and will throw out the typical, "get a fast ship", or "make good instajumps" and all that. great advice... if you planned on running through the gate. what if i wanted to go clear out the criminals in a .3 system who've been sitting at a gate all day killing innocents? well, even if i'm successful, the chances are i'm taking a security hit and/or losing a ship. i'm not even gonna waste my time by stating it's unfair. you already know this...
only recourse i have as a player to have fair battle with another player in Empire space is to declare war. only hitch is a lot of players like to stay in the beginner corps. some are legit reasons, and some aren't. the beginner corp effectively is the players free pass to do terrible things without being effected by the other players (without unfair effects).
best case scenario these players are in a player corp. but, it's a day to make the declaration of war, then another day for it to be legal. and, that's if we luck out and it's one corp, and not 12.
bottom line: criminal activity either needs to stop in empire, or be allowed to react to it without unfair advantages to either side.

If someone is camping a gate, a reasonable amount of forsight will easily allow you to get the drop on them, and they will be flagged - that means you can shoot them as much as you want, and the sentries will be helping you.
Gatecamping in empire is very vulnerable to a well-organized group of people. The fact that noone cares enough to get organized and go get them is why they can stay there.

okay. the flagging stuff is a little new to me thus far. so, what if i'm in that system and these guys roll in and setup at the gate and gank someone...? are they flagged to me, too? can i, being a person who might like to fire on people, go out and trully lend aide? or, do i have to specifically wait for them to attack me in order to fire on them without my own CONCORD rubdown?

If a player attacks someone, that person is criminally flagged to everyone for 15 minutes. During that time period, sentry guns will engage them on sight, and anyone may attack them without penalty (you cant pod unless theyre an outlaw).
The visual marker for flagging seems to have been removed in exodus, in castor it was an ugly red rectangle.

The other day I jumped from Bei to Hag and found myself in the middle of a ganksquad. However, I had equipt my Probe with 2x Nanofibers, as such I was gone before they locked me. I was even congratulated on escaping them.
As much as I may or may not agree with piracy, Loot was doing nothing wrong by the games EULA. They were an efficient group of proffessional pirates reminisent in many ways of old mOo. Quite frankly the adrenilin rush was refreshing.
Had I been podded, the fault would have been mine for not checking the map for kills within a 24 hour period and avoiding theat system.
PvP is what makes transforms EVE from a dull space sim to something more exciting.
Either free the slaves or we will come and get them.

This is why I went into Hagilur while the Euro's sleep and bm'd the whole system to where I might head and always have at least one stab equipped to any ship I fly through there with.

Ill tell you a way to get through......
I was there the other night and they tried to get my arma... I ended up 1v1 a guy in the corp, anyways I won the fight and they let me pass through the gate they were blockading....
First time I ever have got someones word and they actually kept it in eve... respect for 1oo7!!!
So to get through the gate YOU MUST WIN A FIGHT AGAINST ONE OF THEM....Be careful they are ebil
Anyways yea thats how you get through, and you are a nub that cant fight back, sorry find another way around...

They have been there for almost a week now. apocs sitting at about 180km range, but there is also ships that is closer to the gates sometimes.
I popped in to have a look the other day (gate to anher), and 1 apoc was sitting at 180km range along with some other ship. the apoc guy was -10 and probably the one who does the kills. I warped to a station and docked. had a quick talk with them in local, and decided to head back home. arrived at anher gate, the apoc lock my shuttle and starts to fire. it hit me 4 times before I jumped at the gate, but my shuttle still had 10% shield left
reports from other passing through the systems is that they are guarding different gates at different times 24/7.
should ccp clean this up ? No! leave it to the other bloodthirsty people out there. get in there, scout on them, gather a fleet and engage them.

I was autopiloting through this system about 2 hours ago on my way to yet another Mercenary Assassination mission in Anher.
I was locked and shot at in under 2 seconds, losing 275 shields and 300 armour in what seemed to be one hit, not bad.
Thankfully my taranis was faster than their reload and i made it away. But now im stuck on the wrong side of the Empire. That system is my only* way back to my base of operations and my entire corp. My only alternative to running that blockade is to fly 62 jumps through 0.3-0.0 systems.
Lets see if i can lose my 2nd Taranis in as many days

Edited by: FatHed on 05/01/2005 08:53:51 Just saying it's .4 deal, isn't really a great solution. Staying in +.5 pretty much means you have to suck veld. So, the rest of us, who aren't quite ready to take on a corp like Loot, are just screwed. Agents send you to .4 and lower, agents are in .4 and lower. I don't mind getting ganked if I was doing something, but if I was the leader of an empire, and a system of mine was shutdown by pirates, effecting the overall health of my empire, you'd best be sure the fleet would be in there cleaning the mess up. But, since I work for a small corp, and nobody was willing to come to the aid the system, my corp is effectively shutdown until the blockade is over. It's great paying for that, leaves a real cozy feeling inside.
Ohh, btw, there's a crap ton of bounties there, so if a bounty hunter corp was interested in making some cash, you know where to find them, SHYBUM1 alone is worth 18mil.

This is a great point, where exactly is the Minmatar Navy in terms of dealing with pirates at a major highway gate even though its low sec space? Mind you I don't have issues with them ganking at the gate but its an interesting question, where exactly is the Minmatar Navy to defend their space?

Well, I'd say, don't go to Hagilur. You can bypass it if you like. CCP should not interfere right now. But what I'd REALLY like CCP to do was to make a bloody news item about it. Why can't we read: "Pirate blockade in Hagilur costs 1000s their lives as starving colonists scream for supplies"
Or tip Eve Guardian :)

Pirates are a part of EVE, life here, in my opnion, would be worse without them. Although they are a bugger to hunt sometimes, but now dual mwd's are gone its somewhat easier, if still a challenge to catch them.
The hard lessons you learn in avoiding ganks will bear you in good stead i'd say. And besides, there's no sweeter feeling than blowing pirates up!
If life here was safe, it would be damn boring.

Eve is a PvP game. 0.4 space is not meant to be npc policed. Hostile players are criminally flagged, and thus open targets for anyone to fire at.
If players don't like this camp, they should take action against it - they should play the game. What they shouldn't do is cry for a PvE response to the issue - they should not let the game play them.
There are plenty of ways to break a camp like this, and it really isn't difficult. What it takes is determination.
I am sure just one skilled player would have a fair chance of breaking this camp, and a small group could smash it.
If, however, you are not willing to stand up and fight, then you deserve to be a victim.

Edited by: Calsak on 05/01/2005 10:41:59 In 1.0 - 0.5 Concord will protect you, ok thats fine.
In 0.4 - 0.0 Concord cannot/will not protect you, ok no problems.
Looking at it from a real life angle. Police aren't at the end of every street 24/7. But if one particular area of a city started to rise above the average number of complaints then they would increase their presence on the street (even if it was a no go area).
So, perhaps a similar action within Eve would be more realistic? A system with a high number of PC ship's destroyed in the past couple of days would attract a Concord precence until the matter had settled down? People would still be able to blockade systems but would either would have to be prepared to get out after 3-4 days or be perpared to slug it out against the authorities if they want to stay.
If the first Concord visit was small to look at the situtaion and if they are 'wiped out' by the blockade then the next Concord force (a day or so later) would be increased in size.

I accept that I am their biatch, that's pretty clear. I've already stated that I at this point I am powerless against them.
The main point of mine, was that I remember them clearing blocked empire systems in the past. Most of you think it's completely immoral to ask ccp for anything, I disagree with that. It's that simple. I know its .4. I know they have no consequences for killing me there. I also know that I can't even target them, let alone attack them. It just means I have to move, then move again, and prolly again at some point. This has been happening for 3 days, this is the first thread about it. It's not like people haven't been asking for help with this situation, and not asking ccp. Look at it this way, since I apparently just get flamed for asking ccp to do anything, I am asking the community for help cleaning up Hagilur. Once again, thereÆs a fortune of cash to be made with bounties there.

Bounties are no incentive - podding people is next to impossible (assuming they are awake).

If the criminal flag visual has been removed... how can you know that someone is criminally flagged unless watching him start aggression?

Well, I am always cautious in <0.5 systems, at least since I naively cruised around in 0.2 space in my Thorax. I think people don't have anything against people warring eachother in any area of space, the bigger problem is dropping into a blob in 0.4 - 0.3 space unexpectedly. In this case CCP has gifted us with the option to check out ship kills and pod kills last hour on map, and even more in their endless mercy they gave us the option to get around pod-killing zones and even more getting as safe as possible to a spot. Also jumps per hour might point to an upcoming blob. It's only critical if the camping is done at a "can't get around" node on the map.
BTW, I think they should put a bit more than sentries in >0.0 space, mines and drones should be there too. ---- A true player does feel no need to remind himself or fellow players that it is just a game. |
