Edited by: Spaceman Spiffington on 19/10/2010 00:46:08 I'm a caldari purist of sorts, but i'm soon to move out an join my rl friends in a 0.0 alliance that is very active in pvp. I want to train into some useful t2 ships so that i'm not just a slackass blackbird that gets primaried and then listens to the fleet encounter on vent for the next 20mins while he re-ships and makes his way back to the operating site. I've got fairly decent ecm and launcher skills, though my gunnery skills aren't terrible (flew a rifter when i first started to pvp).
Options as I see them: -Ceptors -Dictors -Recons -Bombers -Covert Ops (not sure how many a fleet would need, probably just one as a scout) -Logistics
I'm trying to limit myself to frigate, dessie, and cruiser hulls (yes i know how awsome the drake is, don't worry i'm not neglecting it in) so the train isn't years long.

caldari HIC is a beast.
and cant go wrong with a falcon but covops(you will need to be good at probing i guess?) and logis are never bad i guess.

The more cov ops the better for larger fleets generally, purely because they can roam further afield looking for targets rather than being bound closely to the fleet. If you already have missile skills you might enjoy SBs, but you might aswell pick up the requisites for a good cov scout while you're on your way to there.

You will find Logistic a non issue forb Caldari unless you are repairing a POS Shield, most Drake Fleets take a Scimita1r
Caldari Ceptors do not have much special about them and are not the best dogfighters(They tackle well like any Inty, maybe after the rocket fix)!
Cov Ops, Recons and Dictors are nice for Caldari, on the battleship level and Armortanked RR Nuet Scorp can be helpful. Last there is the Sniper Cerb, but I don't know much about it!
But yeah the Fleet HM and Gang/Sole HAM Drake should your main ship due to cost and usefulness!

HML Cerberus is brutally effective in the right circumstances. By that, I mean if you take it as part of a small gang then it can suppress any hostile ewar platform or single logistics boat within 240 km. Nobody is range-tanking anything with a Cerberus around. And it can still apply up to 440 DPS to BC-sized targets. Given the importance of ewar or logistics to a small gang, this is a powerful ability - although note that the Rook also does a good line in DPS projection and has ewar to boot.
However, if you're flying proper sniper HACs where you hope to alpha smallish targets, it won't be as much use. As gang size goes up, missile flight time issues become more pronounced. If it's only you trying to suppress two logistics boats, then don't expect too much. Most of this is related to gang size however, and should be predictable.

Generally speaking, an AML Caracal and a Drake (either HML or HAM) are two boats that can deliver quite a punch. Against frigates, the AML Caracal is the king. It delivers respectable DPS, and if able to hold a Scram can hand frigates their own asses.
Drakes tank and provide solid DPS. It's a mainstay in many gangs and fleets because of its versatility.

Edit: also, is it worth training astrometrics V in the short term or is IV across the board acceptable for fleet scouting?

Thanks.
Falcons are incredible cruiser hulls. The standard Blackbird isn't too shabby, either. You can never have too much ECM in a gang or fleet.
A Basilisk will always see play, as well.

If I were to have my pick of those areas for Caldari, I would (and have) chosen Falcon, Rook, and Onyx.
Falcon has a couple things going for it: Covert Ops cloak, ECM, and Covert Ops Cynosural Field. It is a very versatile ship that can ruin any pilot's day when properly used.
Rook, while not as versatile as the Falcon, is better in combat situations. It gets some missile bonuses as well as the enhanced T2 resists in addition to its excellent ECM capabilities.
Like any HIC, the Onyx is an integral part of fleet combat in 0.0. Without a doubt, its tank is beastly and won't get broken easily. But you will get primaried without hesitation. It is also the most expensive of the 3 vessels. "When you have to shoot, shoot. Don't talk." |

Rook for smaller gangs, where your additional DPS counts, Falcon is useful everywhere else.
