Hi my name is Capt Troy, and I got punkĘd. Did my first courier contract and couldnĘt dock at the station I was supposed to deliver to. O well, I lost 3mill which is a lot to me. My question is how do I tell if a courier contract is a scam?

All courier contracts are scams.
They scam you of your free time.

Don't deliver to 0.0 they're the scams. At least you didn't get blown up.

Fun game:
1) Take courier contracts that are obviously designed to lose your collateral, but which can be completed. You know, the kind that have you haul something into lowsec from Jita, wherein they plan to either gank you as you undock from 4-4, or get you on the gate into lowsec.
2) Organize corpies to help you actually complete the contract, preferably by violencing the issuer's boat.
3) ????
4) PROFIT!

So what was in the package anyway ? Was it stuff worth 3 mil ISK or not ? If there was stuff worth at least 2 mil ISK inside, you didn't get scammed, you just shot yourself in the foot.
Hint for next time : NPC 0.0 station destinations always good ; player-controlled 0.0 space station destinations, only good if you're part of the alliance that controls it, if not, DO NOT TAKE THEM.

That wasn't a particularly good scam, but meh Hey, at least you ONLY lost 3 mil and learned an important lesson - always double-check the destination's location first. Better 3 mil now than 30 mil, 300 mil or 3 bil a bit later

Courier scams will do the following: a) take you to 0.0 where you can't dock and will lose the deposit and get ganked b) take you to (or through) lowsec where you will get ganked
always check the route as well as the destination, if high value always bring backup regardless due to suicide gankers

Any delivery to 0.0 is not worth it. You can lose your ship or you cant complete deliver the package.

When I was a noob I did courier countracts to 0.0 and they were not scams. I guess I was lucky, what made me stop was a gate camp pirate. lol Guess what happened?

You killed a vaga in haulers?

Capt Troy, have you considered that someone in 0.0 might have needed a shuttle delivering urgently and you, being a jerk, accepted a contract you couldn't complete, thus ruining his chances of getting it delivered in a timely fashion. ~_~

Yeah, a small loss you'll remember, without it really wrecking anything.

I once not long after I started accidentally accepted a couple couriers from jita to tama, and somehow managed to get there and back to high sec in an Iteron. Seeing the guy that was waiting at the gate for me warp in right behind me as I docked at the destination was funny.

Just scam the scammer. Put an alt in a corp that is blue to the null station in question, contract switcharoo, grab isk. Feel good.

It just bothers me that every time someone makes a thread about this mistake happening it's assumed to always be a scam. People can and do legitimately make contracts to 0.0. Granted it's more usual to use an alliances logistics services but sometimes they aren't so well organised.

I use a lot of couriers, although always to high sec. Don't take null sec couriers. =============================== || Don't let the Trolls keep you from your goals. || =============================== |
