Edited by: Dark Voynix on 25/10/2010 12:20:30 Drake will outperform the ferox by far, for the simple fact that can have a huge tank and skill dish some decent DPS. Its hard to find other bc's that can match the efficiency of the drake in L3, and probably only with max skilled chars.
That said i would suggest you do not simply look ad L3 efficiency, but to look at long time expectations. What to you will train? There's no point to use a drake if you don't like missiles and plan for something else than a raven for L4. Also the fun factor have a place. Personally i like gunnery , and love hurricanes but it need a lot of skill to use it efficiently.
Pick your choice, and train to optimize your skills, but don't look just what its better for you now, else you will simply train a bit of everything and excel in nothing, wasting a lot of training time.
If you love rails, look a t that could be your next steps ( once maximized all my hybrid skills, where can i use it?).

The drake has better tank and more DPS so you would be able to run missions faster.
The Ferox can hold its own and used to a great ship, so really it depends on what you want, Guns or Missiles?
Ferox would be slightly cheaper to buy and has range over damage, but still wouldn't be much more then the missiles on a drake, unless you use HAMs.
I would go for the drake myself if it was me tbh although I used to love the ferox its totaly out classed now which is a shame.

Why is it bad now? Did they nerf it and if so what?

Once upon a time, the Ferox was was highly valued because, despite having a silly railgun bonus, it had five missile slots and could fit a mean passive tank. Then the Drake came along with seven bonused missile slots and an even meaner passive tank.
As if that weren't bad enough, rails without a damage bonus only got worse with changes to Scorch and Barrage. Combine that with the rise of RR -- which the Ferox just doesn't do well period -- and it's been relegated to a very narrow nearly useless role of being a cheap though lumbering medium sniper that does plinky damage even compared to an Eagle.
Which really is too bad because it does have one sexy model going for it.

I guess it would be a tad better with some blasters on it..

True, but look at the Brutix ( Gallente BC ), while it have 7 guns and damage bonus is still considered not a great ship.
Why? there are several reasons: the web nerf ( from 90% to 50% speed reduction) make your target quite easy to get some distcance that reduce drastically your dammage. Autocannons and pulses was boosted in last years, so they almost match the blaster dammage at much better effective range.
Projectile also dont use cap and can chose dammage.. so the little old brutix cannot match those ships. If the brutix cant, figures the ferox.

But then you're likely looking for a neat little ship called a Brutix. Specifically a shield gank Brutix.

I thought I had a long change-log memory, but this I don't recall. What changes were made to Scorch and Barrage? And Null went untouched? This had to be Pre-Rev II...

There was not changes on those ammo's ( at least as far i remember), i think he meant changes on the turrets or other changes that made those turrets quite better.
Projectiles was revisited and boosted, projectiles ammo was also revisited making 3 "high damage" ammo with different ammo type.
If i'm not wrong , some yeast ago also pulses was rebalanced ( but this is quite far ago).
But what made those weapons better in comparison of blasters are the more recent track comp/enchanger change ( that increase also falloff not only optimal ) and the well known web nerf. The last one its not realy a boost, but since blasters are effective only in web range and needed to web the opponent to let them stay close, while the other 2 can easily do damage also out of web range, the result was that blaster was hitted much more than the other 2.

That's what I suspected, but was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. We should be a bit more clear about what we're talking about when using examples like that, or else people without the history get the wrong impression.
Just for the interested: The Laser buff was +25% tracking to Pulse Laser tracking, and separately lowered EM resistances. That's all very old news, however.

Yep.. just found it myself looking at release changes:
Quote: Build 32517 to 33752 addresses REVELATIONS II Patch Notes, Features, Fixes and Improvements:
... Boosted tracking of all Pulse Lasers by 25%. ...
That's quite old...

Point granted. It wasn't a direct boost to Scorch but it was definitely an indirect one. And yes, the TE changes were the indirect boost to Barrage.
Old news? Sure. But then I did start off by referencing the introduction of the Drake which was, what, Revelations? So yes, very old news.

Get a Drake. Or get a Raven and blitz the missions until you get to Level 4.

The Nighthawk is essentially a souped up Drake and does very nice things in PvE. Its uses in PvP are much more limited.
The Vulture is basically there for the same reason all Fleet Command Ships are: to provide gang bonuses. It does fine at that task but isn't spectacular at anything else.

I don't know what you are talking about but the nighthawk is feared in PVP. It's dps with HAMs is godly.
See for yourself:
Battlecruiser Skill Bonus: 5% bonus to assault missile, heavy assault missile and heavy missile launcher rate of fire and 5% bonus to all shield resistances per level
Command Ships Skill Bonus: 5% bonus to heavy missile Kinetic damage and 5% bonus to heavy missile precision per level
Mid slots for tank, has bonuses, 5 low slots for gank and etc... with more damage bonuses... That is one nasty ship mate.
NightHawk owns.

Oh, trust me, I know; I said limited, not useless. Slamming on a full rack of HAMs and a MWD isn't the easiest thing on a NH -- but once you have it on there and working it can indeed do impressive things. Whether those things are impressive enough to pay the premium over a Drake is more debatable -- especially when you have the additional option of just shelling out a bit more for a Tengu that does almost everything just as well or better without the fitting constraints.
Just don't try to boost a fleet with it. That doesn't tend to work out all that well.

tbh if you going to be using a nighthawk in pvp, use heavies with a local tank. If you want to play with hams, get a sac. Also confirming a nighthawk with a rf point and a loki boosting alt is a mean pvp boat.

Why would you bother? The Sacrilege is poor compared to a Drake to begin with and the Nighthawk is better than a Drake, sure the Sacs cheaper than a Nighthawk but the drakes a lot cheaper than either. Active tanked Sac fits have poor buffer, it only takes a small amount more incoming DPS than you can rep or get hit by neuts and it crumbles and if you fit a plate it is not much faster or more agile than a Drake and the only saving grace tank wise is the smaller signature radius and neither does it dish out as much damage as the Drake and cannot launch a full flight of drones, a real liability on a ship fitted with HAMs.
Only reason you would choose the Sac over either is because you really want to fly it because you like it or have to go with an armour tank because your gang have Guardians/Oneiros, but performance wise it does not make sense.
