While we were all wasting our time with that community that hosted the Create a Star Ship contest, Valve was working with a 'prestigious' community. That community was Polycount. The winners of that contest, well...

So, the question that comes up in my mind is; would CCP be willing to do something similar for Incarna?

God I hope so. Interesting ways to involve community generated content are always a bonus in my book. Whether they'd actually let is make real money off of it, I don't know, but one can dream.
Now if only I was as competent as the Polycount folks.

Because then you gotta hire another person and do interviews, check their references and then pay them a salary and benefits and you aren't guaranteed that they will come up with something that you will like. Heck they may design a floating turd for a spaceship and call it the dominix. If you can set it up so that the community does all the art work and votes on the popular designs, all you have to do is sell it and give a small pittance to the artist.
The CCP art team has done what, remodel one ship (the scorpion) in 2 years?

It's not "Play through a pre-set story, become stronger, do endgame". Gameplay is open ended, and you make your own story. Unless you're too afraid of 'pvp grief' to do anything relevant |

They've been busy painting their fingernails black and thinking deeply about the world around them ultimately coming up with the conclusion they're all alone.
Thats all you can really expect an artist to do.
