So our corp had it's first real roam today. We outfitted 2 drakes, a harbinger, a prophecy, and our CEO pulled out a Maelstrom.
We began with only 3 BCs. The Harbinger, a drake, and the proph. Departing from Vuorassi we camped the Navula gate, and were soon greeted by a gate fire. Drake on grid... What to do! Drakes are notorious bait ships, so we let a drake go through, expecting it to have a gank squad in Vuorassi. It warped off though, and then... nothing. Beggining 3 Juicy BCs apparently are not juicy enough! That's when we realized: All this talk of Ganking and stuff is, well, talk. So we adopted a new policy: Attempt to kill everything that passes through. This netted us a Moa, which died quickly. A drake jumped in and popped my poorly fit harbinger which had little buffer left after tanking the Gate Guns against the Moa. The other two popped the drake while I reshipped. At this point, the rest of the corp joined us, and we added a second drake and a Maelstrom. Camping the gate yielded poor results so we roamed to Hakonen, camping two gates in that system. A Tempest showed up and tanked its way back to the gate, jumping into Navula.
About now, I warping back my new Harbinger to join the others. I find the Tempest waiting on the other side, sitting 1000m off the gate to Hakonen. This scared the hell out of me, but I targetted. It targets back and a show down begins. If the Tempest warps aligns, I scram it. If it jumps, it's jumping right into a camp. It jumps! I leap through the gate and call in the rest of the fleet to rally at the gate. The Tempest decloaks and I engage. The fleet warps in but do to FC newbie mistake arrives at 10km. We rush in to get webs when a second enemy battleship shows up: a Maelstrom. We begin the most epic battle of my EVE life and though I die quickly, I watch the rest of the battle from my pod. The Tempest dies quick, being fitted for gank, but the Mael will just not die. It's active tank was holding off the majority of our DPS. We couldn't break off- we had people pointed and without microwarps. (We were set to gate camp, so we had sebos in midslots) The tank is breaking though, slowly. We see victory in our sights until... our own Maelstorm is jammed by a flight of Vespa ECM drones. After much confusion, we finally pop off all the ECMs, but it's too late. By this point we have lost both amarr battlecruisers and the Maelstorm's tank is close to holding around 50%. One drakes warps off while the other explodes into space dust. Our Maelpilot was ready to warp, but declines saying, "This what EVE is all about. Two battleships, same hull, duking it out to the death." He lost, but went down guns firing.
End result of our first roam ever:
Battle cruisers Lost: 4
Battle Cruisers Killed: 1
Battleships Lost in Blaze of Glory: 1
Battleships killed: 1
EVE PVP lessons learned: 10
Isk lost: ~300m
ISK destoryed: ~130M
Good Times had by all!

Hakoken is a good place to start. But next time you should camp the Nourv gate in Tama with more battleships

IN FUTURE, USE A SCOUT (IN A CLOAKY SHIP) TO KEEP WATCH ON THE OTHER SIDE OF GATES.
ALSO THERE IS MORE THAN A GRAIN OF TRUTH IN WHAT THE POASTER ABOVE ME SAYS.

We were breaking it. Slowly. But essentially, yes. In fairness, the maelstrom pilot did a great job keeping our own BS out of the fight w/ ECM Vespas. By the time we realized those were messing him up it was a bit too late.

Congrats on living a bit and taking a trip to low sec, even if it was a very short trip to a high sec gate. 
Ignore the haters and trolls as the best way to learn how to PVP, is to just do it. You guys seem to have the right attitude assuming your story is true and I'm sure if you keep trying you will get it right.
One word of suggestion, on your next roam take a bunch of T1 cruisers and go for an actual roam rather than a camping trip.

MAYBE.

Nice story. It'g good you're giving PVP a go. Just don't get stuck to gate camping. As one of the previous posters said, get some T1 cruisers and roam about. Use a scout. Never fly blind.

Yeah this week we are going to hit up Curse in a frigate and Cruiser gang. We are rich carebears so we'll probably bring T2 stuff. Hoping to gank some missioners + maybe break up a gate camp. I roamed around the region today, lost a Crusader but eh no big loss. Lots of people looking for a fight in curse!
