I come to see local and see merc camping enemy. I feel satisfied, I am- I do. But it is not enough! I tell them intel for surprise but they ignore me, AND THEN they start talk for fittings of drakes to targets? like what does better and they share fits and knowledge? I am sitting on station saying what is this?? this is like preschool kindergartens on the playground!
when merc is hired and you are, please do so with relentless ruthlessness your job of hunting targets not talk like pansies and share fits to contracted enemies, you need to slap yourself! next time i want you to go in station and kill them.

And if he told them not to talk, they would have started barking. There is no end to it. Mercs should bite or they fail.

Did it ever cross your mind that sometimes mercs find their targets respectable? Talking with them is not out of the ordinary if the target is found to be decent. Especially if they will fight. Perhaps they find the target you hired them against more respectable and honorable than you. QQ

In this era of Democratic leadership, you are surprised the "mercs" you hired are talking things out with your targets?

*shrug*
Merc contracts are generally for skills & kills. You want fierce? Recruit and fight your own battles. That's the way it has been with mercs since the beginning of time.
If this differs from your perception, then it is your perception that is wrong.

So intel on your target (skill levels and preferred fittings) is a bad thing now? I mean I know asking them for that info usually doesn't result in the answers you want, but hell, if it works go for it.

OP Why do you even care? If your wts are locked down & now hindreing your operations who gives a fiddlers f_ _k. I suggest you remove your kotex & start combat training. You want to play hardcore? Then be able shoot your own enimies in the face and stonewall them in local yourself. Skirt.......

Also, consider that maybe your mercs were giving bad information to the targets. "Yeah bro, you definitely want to armor tank that drake, it's awesome!!!111"

Edited by: Firnas on 01/11/2010 14:42:37 Unless as previously posted, they were convincing the WT's to do things like fit gyrostabs and blasters to their drakes, "No really, it's more dps in the long run!", it was incorrect.
Mercenaries, while on contract, are not/should not be chumming up to the WT's. If they won't undock and die, Mercs shouldn't provide an additional service of keeping them company.
To provide a real world analog. When my GF drags me out to a crap movie she was convinced she wanted to see, then halfway through starts talking to me instead, I just tell her to shut it and watch the garbage she chose. I've already faded away into daydream land thinking about the girl 2 rows over, so I could care how bad the movie is.
TL;DR.
Don't keep the WT's occupied. Be silent, and appear afk, that is how you get kills.

What's this next generation of merc advertising campaign going to be?

On one hand, I agree that if I hire a merc corp, I'd rather not see them sitting around talking smack with the damn target in local. If that's how some merc corps are, I'd prefer to hire the mercs that aren't like that.
On the other hand, this smacks of micro-management. If the OP hired them to keep the target docked and/or kill-on-sight for X days... and the target is docked up... OP is getting what he paid for.
But the reply about "maybe they found the target more honorable than you" makes me giggle. E-honor for the lol. Frankly, a merc corp should be about money, not honor. Once hired they should do what they're paid for to the client's satisfaction, or deal with poor reviews like this one and the loss of business that it brings.
Re: Machiavelli... was never a statesman, a prince, a general, or anything else of import. He died alone and poor. His greatest accomplishment in life was to write a very small but entertainingly cynical booklet.
I wish the OP would post the merc corp he hired. I'd like to know who to avoid.

When im hunting people I ALWAYS talk to them if they will respond. It doesn't matter what you talk about, whatever their responses are will tell you something about them. If they are stupid enough to blurt out something useful, well that's a bonus. If they are constantly lying to you then at least you know they are dishonest (and usually wont think anything wrong about using neut logi/bonuses).
Social engineering requires you be social..

It also keeps them busy, or at least lightly distracted.
When you are on the defensive, such a distraction can be all it takes...
