I'm kind og new and had a few questions, please forgive me if it seems totally noob.
Assume this is for a totally new char (with some learning skills trained and +3 implants)
What skills do I need to train if I ever wanted to be one of the big CEO's (of a very large corp or an alliance), aside from corp management. Do I need Anchoring / starbase defense managment? Do I need Planet Management? Do I need to fly Freighters / Capital Ships?
Please be specific, what should I get besides Corp Management and in what order (eg. Are jump freighters more important than Capital Industrials, etc.)?
What would YOU train?

Honestly I'm new so I don't know too much about the types, probably will need some military though at some point. Aside from that, you guys are the experts.

I don't think you should start a new character and head straight for the role of CEO. If you are truly new, you should train normal beginner skills in your chosen field and then when you understand the game enough to be a good CEO, start training those skills.
Sorry I didn't exactly answer your question, but I think you may be going about this the wrong way.

Edited by: McDeth on 02/11/2010 01:59:20 What "Beginner Skills" should I get? I've been training some trade, and some basic stuff like engineering / electronics, etc. I got a couple at lvl 5 here and there but nothing solid I think.
To be Honest, I realize training for CEO is not useful anytime soon, and its not a top priority, but I'm not sure what direction to go that will be useful to me later (as CEO hopefully).
I was thinking maybe freighters / jump freighters or capital industrials? Both sound cool but in reality I'm lost.
I have an identity crisis!

Your route to CEO of a large corp or alliance is going to be 99.8% about learning the game, and 00.02% about training the specific skills for corp/alliance management.
To get yourself into such a role is all about RL leadership skills plus extensive, broad knowledge of the game and its mechanics. Your fastest path to this role will probably be joining an existing corp and working your way up through the ranks by proving a valuable team-player. Along the way you may either get to the rank of CEO/alliance head, or you may decide to leave that corp after you've gained valuable experience and start your own.
The skills for corp management are fairly quick to learn - less than 20 days for a corp of 300. You only need Corp management, mega corp, and empire control to be able to add players to your corp (aside from ethnic relations which allows the corp to be multi-racial).
In the mean time, keep the goal of becoming a corp/alliance leader in mind, but focus on having fun and learning the game in the mean time.

Considering that only the first CEO who forms the corp actually need any corporation skills, unless you're dump enough to click 'update with my skills' button when you become a CEO, there is no real need for corp management skills aside from anchoring and star base defence.

Hi McDeth. Just to make crystal clear, if you're going to become CEO of an existing corp, you do not require any particular eve-skills, just Real Life skills. If you're going to create a corp you need some very basic Corporation Management skills (mentioned above), or get someone with those skills to create the corp then hand over the CEO position to you.

Also, if I recal right, there were some people who sold thei skills in this fashion IE. they would create a corp for you for a fee with their max skilled alt.
The service may still be running, os you migh want to check out the forum dedicated for hiring merc's/other services.
As a side note, don't use your main as the corp CEO. It saves you a lot of harrasment when it's your alt/hired guy as the "founder".

I recommend that you pause training on your current character, make a new one in your empty slot, and skill up as a regular, typical EVE player (run some missions, do the tutorials, mine a bit, by a Rifter and roam lowsec.
Make some friends, write notes, and basically accumulate knowledge before going back to your "main" and trying to run a corporation.
Just my 2 isk.
That said...
To be a great CEO is less about in-game skills and more about real-life charisma, diplomacy, and striking the balance between happy members and a productive corp. You may or not find that happy members == productive corp
Anchoring would be useful, starbase def management not so much (at least not until you get a POS). Freighters would be VERY useful... every good corp needs a logistical plan.

I'd start out by getting Megacorp Management to 2 (+150 members) and Ethnic Relations to 4. Then recruit, recruit, recruit... aim for mission runners, they'll get the corp a lot of tax money. Train up for a freighter, and your life just got a lot easier.
But seriously... learn the game first! --- Join Lowball Heavy Industries. Small, focused fleets - lots of high intensity action, the EVE way. |

The thing about running a corp in EVE is that there are many ways to rib your corp blind and a very few ways to ensure it doesn't happen while keeping the said corp running.

Can you elaborate on that freighter part? What makes it useful for a corp / how to use it?
