There are hundreds of trojans on my laptop ( I got a pop-up that scanned for them and found them) when i tried to use that same program my computer crashed halfway through the cleaning how do i open it again?

On the slim chance that this is not a troll post.....
1. Did you get a pop up suddenly warning you of viruses, trojans or whatever???
2. Did the pop up offer to clean them??
3. Did you have to enter personal information or pay for the pop up program to clean your computer??
If you answered "Yes" to number three, you just sent your personal information to scammers. The Pop up offering to clean your computer WAS THE TROJAN.
KNOW which company you have your anti-virus from. If some other program offers to clean your computer, it is a Virus making the offer. Accepting is a really bad idea.

I recommend using the Purifier Tool, bundled with Executor Selendis' Utilities
If you don't have access to that a similar effect can be achieved by using thermite or any other form of purifying flame.
and further more why do i even need a sig? |

Sorry what i meant by pop up is a windows notification and i did not have to give any info. For some reason after that notification came up i lost access to the internet (still have it on my gaming computer) more help please (does xp come with an antivirus?)

No, XP doesn't come with antivirus but microsoft does offer a free antivirus program.
I hereby revoke your intert00bz licence.
You infected yourself by clicking on whatever pop up you got. Your best bet is to wipe the drive and reinstall.
You can get an external usb dock for your laptop's hard drive, take a copy of the DOCUMENTS only off the hard drive and stick it back in your laptop, format and reinstall windows et all. You more than likely will have more damage done to the OS regardless if you clean it with an antivirus program.

If you lost internet access, that is a HUGE warning that the pop up IS the virus.
If you don't know what anti-virus you have, assume you have none. Keep on assuming that until you KNOW otherwise.
Many new computers do come with anti-virus, so you might have real anti-virus (If you don't KNOW, assume you don't), but you often get prompted to buy more protection when you first turn it on.
Never use the internet if you don't KNOW what anti-virus program is on your machine (so you can recognize it when it pops up). If you can't open the anti-virus that you know is real, then it has been disabled by a Virus, and you'll probably get offers from the virus to "clean" your machine.
Know your limits. Get it professionally cleaned, or learn to do PROFESSIONAL level cleaning yourself. (a good skill to have).
The Internet is, NO JOKE, like Eve. Scammers and theives are every where. Learn to avoid em, or stop using the internet.

Thanks for the replies I will go with reinstalling windows i think  . This thread is now about how messed up people who make viruses are.

Good habits:
--Make sure your anti-virus self updates daily.
--Manually update before visiting sites with fun films involving girls (I'm 100% serious)
--if you suspect you have picked up a virus, IMMEDIATELY disconnect from the internet (unplug the cable, and disable wireless), and run your anti-virus on the SLOWEST setting it has.
--The nastier ones will get you anyway, and you'll need a prefessiona (one you pay) to fix it.

Why spend more money for closed system that is actually worse tehn regular pcs?

Sounds like you got hit by the Anti-Vir family.
Pop up looks like windows, tells you **** is going down more pop ups ensue, you click one then hell breaks loose. Mainly cuts your internet and all sorts of randomness
If this aint no troll post...
Best bet, boot in safe mode with networking - head to IE: look for internet options, head in there to connections, untick the thing about proxies. Internet should work
download a decent Anti-virus software. Scan computer while in safe mode and should work.
Never done it before but I'm guessing that'd be the best way to go

OP: a sure sign of malware is an unexpected popup window saying you are infected. If you ever see these in the future, do not click on them.
The easiest way to fix the issue is to pop the HDD into a non-infected machine and clean it with the protection software on it.
If this is not an option boot to safe mode and try what Malware cleaners you have available to you.

BTW, I used to use Mcaffee that came with Comcast(Comcrap is a better term), then I swapped to MSE which seems to have improved system performance. I really try to avoid those questionable sites too.

Your only secure foolproof (and CHEAPEST)option is reformat. That is the only way to truly disinfect your computer. Those who say they can clean your computer, make it run faster, offer "Professional Virus Removal without reinstalling your OS"...etc are only taking your money. Those who say they have used these services and their computer is "clean" are only FEELING secure. A virus that wants to stay hidden will not be found if it really doesn't want to be if the programmer is good enough. Social engineering at its best designed to take your money for peace of mind. Perform a reformat of your HD and reinstall your OS is the way to go.
Another word about reformatting...
What is a"reformat"?
Reformatting a HD is really not deleting any information on the HD. All you are really doing is deleting the pathways that the OS follows to activate various programs or access various bits of data. This in itself can be secure enough as the virus software may be on the computer BUT the OS can't access it to run it. So far as my personal experience has been, I have never seen a virus that can recreate it's own pathways to the OS for re-enabling and re-infection.
If you are TRULY paranoid about reformatting or are convinced that reformatting isnt secure enough, then you can look for any sort of program that overwrites the entire HD before reformatting. You can search Google for DBAN or Boot And Nuke or "overwrite hard drive" or any sort of search term related to that tag
Another couple of things to mention about this situation. ALWAYS keep a backup of your important files for just this sort of situation. If you dont have a backup, then you just may well be screwed. Backups work only if you backup your important files BEFORE you get infected. As another poster said, backup your documents folder. Virus makers rarely store or install virus programs in the Documents Folder. Don't back up anything else if you think you are infected because all you will do is backup the virus which is not what you want.
