Hey there,
I've been a long time lurker of MD and I am thinking of producing either a daily or a bi-weekly case on YouTube about the markets in EVE. My questions to you guys is... What do you want to see in it?
Ignore your nagging doubts about whether or not I am capable of making a program, and tell me, if you could envision a daily or bi-weekly youtube episode what you be on it? What would be the things that would keep you coming back to watch the next episode?

This is really a tough one to answer. I think the more broad based you can be the better. The best thing I can say is... you say you are a long time lurker... just think about what the "hot" topics have been and use that as a starting point. Might also want to think about sponsorship so that you can start to give away prizes to viewers... publicity stunts/promotions are always helpful.

I would really enjoy this. Seeing how you interpret data on the market, and possibly compare that to other regions maybe everyother day for 5-10 minutes would be neat.

- What common commodities are doing
- What oddball items are moving fast
- In-depth analysis about WHY a SPECIFIC item is moving like it is (as in one per show)
- What a couple of common indexes are doing
- Speculation on what the next patch will bring (based on reading dev blogs, etc) for market items

The Daily "Jita Price Index" - The average price of a bundle of goods in Jita.
The Daily "Pirate Ship Index" - The average price of a bundle of goods that can only be bought through contracts.
Prices of items that are wildly fluctuating up or down.
"Purchasing Price Index" - Ratio of JPI versus other market hubs (Dodixie, Rens, Amarr).
Yammer a bit like the announcer knows what she's talking about while speculating about the ups and downs of these indexes.
And the announcer should be a hot Russian chick stripping down to her underwear like real Russian news programs.

Also, if you want to hear how a real market show sounds and feels, check out Marketplace from NPR. Podcasts are available online and it's a fantastic show about real life markets.

Since you're going video, my first reaction is to say "more graphs". You may want to get some economist/accountant/analyst type to help, such as Vaerah Vahrokha.
My second reaction is to say "video interviews with notables" such as: CCP's Dr. E Akita T Hexxx Ray McCormack Vaerah Vahrokha
Interviews would be feature items, with the interviewee discussing something interesting or hot in Eve (example: the "insurance reprocessing" flood a few months ago).

The real answer? A weekly video telling people that whatever markets I am currently involved in are running at a loss and directing them somewhere else... but convincingly.
The non-snarky one? I guess maybe a weekly report on which PI items (particularly P1s) are in a bubble. Personally, I'd define that as maybe anything over 400 P/U, probably anything over 450, and almost certainly anything over 500. *** Wish list for PI:
*One-click input routing *Copy product, inputs & outputs in factories *Launchpad upgrades: twice the space, twice the cost, half the hassle! |

would love to have this show! i suggest you talk about any recent changes to the market, eg. PLEX prices going up and stuff, not all the tiny things, just the more major ones ;)

Your need for varied content might tie in with a side project idea ive meant to play around with for awhile now a rather novel way to gain large amounts of market data from a rather unique perspective

Of course you're not the first one to think about this - you can find the latest similar effort here.
The main problem is that you have next to no original information - price indices are much easier to comprehend/process in written or graphical form, expert panels are a pain to organize (not many experts, different timezones) and usually don't offer much new over what these experts said on MD just a few days ago, you can go a few weeks without any meaningful CCP announcements so these cannot deliver reliable content, discussion of individual items will only end in pump-and-dump schemes, ...
Probably every single of your listeners will read MD frequently (because (a) they have to be interested in market stuff and (b) your program can only be found through MD), so you should concentrate on what information/analysis you can deliver that goes beyond what your listeners have already read on MD.
The problem I see with a bi-weekly format is that by the time the next episode is out, your former listeners will already have forgotten about your program - yes, you can bump your forum threads etc; but imo it becomes much harder to build a loyal customer-base when only delivering content bi-weekly and if you go for a significantly shorter interval your program will likely have no real content.
I am looking forward to listen to the first (and most likely last) 2-3 episodes of this program - if you're really serious I would suggest you talk to EVE Radio and try to get a weekly slot in their program. You could publish it on youtube later anyways, it would give you a meaningful listener-base, I have the feeling that EVE Radio would actually welcome a few "srs bizniz" shows that make them feel more like a RL radio station, you could fill time by answering listener's questions and your market manipulations will become so much more effective...

What I would like to see:
1) Spectacular price drops / rices. 2) Spectacular volume movements. 3) Spectacular ganks at Jita, Dodixie and other major markets. 4) Info on the latest and most horrifying trade and contract scams. 5) Top 5 (or 10) list of the most profitable items, but needs to look spectacular. 6) A Drake Price Index, or any price index based on the ship, which will most likely see a nerf in the future, and needs to get the audience completely worried. 7) Akita T, or a mock-up of her, giving an outlook on the future. Needs to sound as boring as the weather report.
If it is only going to be "bla bla, rant rant" with some numbers then I do not want to see it. --

This.
BTW my idea tl;dr was to sit on perimeter gate and scan cargos for a set period of time and use these samples to get a subset of what is -literally- moving.
And honestly raw maket data is all im after it doesnt yet involve arty typhoons im not like the others...

Some good ideas above but I always prefer writing.. even mispelled writing with poor grammar, omitted words, and a few other mistakes to video.
Video requires you to think at the pace of the speaker... to prevent you from free associating down one tangent before you go on to hear the next part of their presentation.
I'm always seeing interesting topics on sports and politics on the web these days and click on them and some crappy noise comes on and a video pops up and its "blah blah blah" with no writing to reveiw concepts at ones leisure and to re-read to capture lost nuances or pick apart a veiled rhetorical angle they're pitching.
tldr. i don't like video
