I have read (or tried to read) the forum topics regarding this issue with no avail. I would like some actual information about what happened. Where do I look for that? Obviously CCP isn't going to make a statement this early, and their statement would most likely be biased at this point anyways (as would most peoples probably).
So basically, is there any actual information out there yet?

Evenews24, as good as it is, is often pretty one-sided and not neutral.
The story is: Some people are trying to be clever, onlining TCU's right before the extended downtime so that they are perfectly safe and cannot be attacked and shot down during the onlining process. The other guys had no chance to interrupt the onlining TCU's and petition them after the server is back on. GM offlines the TCU's and they are destroyed, replacement TCU's will end up in the alliance hangar of choice.
A few other TCU's were also onlined during the downtime elsewhere, no one petitioned them and they aren't removed (yet).
Some people try to make a drama, call it unfair and throw a tantrum.

I doubt this is the end. But thank you for the information anyways.
And yes, evenews24 can be very weighted.

For the record, the TCUs were onlined in unclaimed space. IT didn't want those systems anyway.

Given the choice between ISD or evenews24 which you pick?

Certainly evenews24. I still feel the need to find a second (third perhaps?) option however.

CCP should ban outposts being built a hour before downtime without any way to destroy the egg in time if they take this stance on tcus.

I can't remember last time people cry so much like these TEST babies. Maybe they should go back ratting in Deklein with OWN if they just want put up TCU with no fight and sit on comms telling each other how smart they are.

Edited by: Kat Bandeis on 03/11/2010 03:10:35 They're free to put the TCUs back up again. As was intended from the beginning, new TCUs must be defended for the 6 hours in the beginning. The exploit comes from (ab)using downtime for the purpose of getting undefended/uncontested TCUs up. Completely irrelevent whether IT wanted the space or not. If TEST thought that were the case, then they can't expect anyone to contest their planting the TCUs according to rules, no?

The entire core purpose of TCU is to generate fights.
They don't always work, but using them in a manner that makes it IMPOSSIBLE for them to generate a fight is sort of against their entire reason for existance...
Play nice while you butcher each other.

Because it is NOW being abused and brought to the attention of CCP?
if IT did this to test people would say the same thing. Theyd say IT r nubs trying to circumvent mechanics because they don't want to fight.

I thought that the primary purpose of a TCU is to claim sovereignty of a system. To be clear, I'm not debating that they can act as a trigger for PvP, but I wouldn't go as far as to stress that it was their entire purpose.
Anyone can assault a TCU with SBUs. People can still shoot at each other within a system whether a TCU is there or not. Would people have missed one opportunity to do so if the TCUs remained in-place? Yes, quite probably. Would it be the only opportunity for PvP? Absolutely not.
What was attempted may be seen as unfair, but no more unfair than sweeping in and punishing just one alliance for an act they weren't alone in committing. The fact that public pressure may have since pushed CCP into nuking other TCUs probably doesn't matter much to many people when they already feel they've seen this sort of thing before ...

If you want to pick a fight with IT and invade their Empire, then you should do so on the battlefield, man to man. Do not be a coward and hide behind the walls of extended downtime to start your invasion. Be upfront about it, bring a fleet to their lands, and lead the charge yourself.
Who am I kidding? TEST doesn't have the balls to do this. They're just running around space screwing around with people. Like a pack of wild kids on crack.
If TEST is serious about invading IT, then they should make the invasion while the servers are online. Exploiting patch deployment downtime is no fancy trick. And claiming SoV for doing nothing shouldn't be awarded. I'm glad CCP destroyed their TCU's and didn't let them have free SoV and invade IT without having to fight. Alas, most tricksters are cowards at heart. So this whole thing isn't surprising at all.
