Retroactive consistency with new (unwritten) rule =/= actual consistency with established precedent regarding this game mechanic.
Again, I would like some clarification from CCP. Exactly how long before downtime must a structure be deployed in order for no "unfair" advantage to be had? In ur engineering, fixin' ur warp core. |

Originally by: zero9300 Originally, they did only take down the TEST TCUs.
To avoid favoritism, TEST petitioned for either(in short form) A)Our TCUs restored, giving us Sov from the DT as your alliance had. or B)Removal of all other TCUs put up before the extended DT.
Guess you see which the GMs have decided

So basically you guys threw a hissy fit about something you thought was a little bit unfair, and decided to petition bomb to drag alliances that had actually FOUGHT for the right to place a TCU down with you? Impressive gamesmanship, fellas. Really classy.

Yup.
EDIT: to be fair, we were expecting IT to actually bring their cap fleet around a second time, but they found it easier to call the GMs on us. The sov itself isn't the worry, the equitable treatment, however, is.

This is not about TCU's or SOV anymore. This is about ccp creating rules on the fly without telling anyone, before suddenly enforcing them.

Confirming that there are "fake" TCUs, that CCP can remove from the game at will, and "real" TCUs, belonging to alliances who actually deserve them. Also, it's entirely up to CCP's judgement to make the distinction.
Thanks for your continued posting, you're providing a great foil for our argument!

Oh ok, so at the start of the thread it was about TCUs and sov. But now that you've realised no-one's buying that argument you're changing the complaint on the fly and making it about clarity of rules?
Since you care so much about fairness, why do you think it's appropriate for TAPI members to have fabricated chatlogs with the GM and to be posting them all over the internet to try to damage the game, just because you weren't able to cheat your way to sov?

The facts of the matter seem rather plain. CCP GM makes arbitrary decision on behalf of one Alliance, another Alliance cites other examples of this happening without repercussions, CCP GM is forced to remove them all as the arbitrary decision has to be applied more broadly than he thought.
Its unfortunate but dropping the TCU's didn't strike me as cheating, but at the same time the GM's retraction of all the Sov gains also doesn't strike me as unfair. Its simply an example of vague, rarely mentioned or enforced rules suddenly jumping up and biting people in the ass.

I freely admit I don't know everytyhing about sov mechanic or this issue. So someone correct me if I'm wrong. But it sounds like TEST dropped some TCUs in IT-controlled or targeted space timed to coincide with the scheduled extended DT. IT, instead of dealing with it by bringing the heat and shooting TCUs after DT, went and bat-phoned CCP GMs to do something about it.
That about right?
If so, then IT are the most pathetic bunch of cowards the game has ever seen. Go back to WoW ya pansies. If you can't even plan for the defense of your territory during a period of known vulnerability, you don't deserve to hold sov at all. Take down your TCUs and evac to hi sec. Don't forget to address your contracts to the new station owners. Feel free to send me a couple Falcons or Tengus while you're at it.
CCP, what happened to HTFU? I've seen dozens of players in other MMOs quit over things like this. Episodes like this hurt your credibility and cost you subscribers. Let IT and TEST handle it themselves. "When you have to shoot, shoot. Don't talk." |

You pretty much got it, except IT did not hold sov in the systems in question.

So what was IT *****ing about to begin with? None of their business.

^ This.
Thanks, CCP, for setting a very, very unclear precedent in this matter. You guys were doing SOOOO great, with the downtime updates, making sure communication was clear and concise.
Then you screw the pooch here and lock threads to keep the signal of your failure from reaching the people. It's much better, indeed, to admit and move on. We forgive easily.
And you can't stop the signal.

I think this is similar to when the Privateers had 100s of corps/alliances wardecced in Jita due to silly wardec mechanics. The solution wasn't to blame the Privateers, but to change an obviously flawed system.
Similarly, I expect CCP should couple this sov rollback with some updated rules regarding how sov timers work. Either put a defined prohibition period around planned downtimes, or pause the timers. Or come up with a more genius solution. But don't just ignore it and leave a big hole of uncertainty lying about. Retired from corp sales. Time to spend some of this on pretty explosions :) |
