I've been training for a Nyx. In fact it feels like I've been training it for years, well nearly three years since I had the grand idea of capital ships as my end game direction.
Something troubles me. There always seems to be another skill which needs training or hardening. So, I ask the question of the cap ship veterans. When are you ready for that super cap? is it just intuitive or do you say well all my skills are at 4/5- lets go for it!
I know that there are issues of having the right corp around you & all the logistical support as these concerns are more important than the ship itself. A super cap without support is as good as dead.
Perhaps you can offer advice as to the level of skills required. I'm currently training Gallente carrier 5 then bombers 5 & then might go down the triage route. I am definitely concerned that there are holes in my skills that need plugging first but I think I'm close to being ready. I would link you my current skills bit Eve sheet does not appear to be working for me.

Just make sure you train Warp Drive Operation to level 5.

If you'd been flying a thanny for years up to that point i'd say you're ready whenever you are comfortable with the cost (should have an idea of how to use it by now...), but if you skipped the thanatos and/or haven't flown a carrier extensively then you're most certainly not ready.

Thanks for that advice. The navigation skills are somewhat fundamental for all Cap ships!

I've flown Thanatos for 12 months & the Chimera for a similar amount of time but only have limited Nyx experience having only flown the Nyx on the test server in the supercap test fiasco!

Well, assuming you are comfortable handling caps then it's not a huge step up aside from the no-docking which is fairly obvious. Which skills you need at V is largely dependant on your corp/alliance requirements. That is assuming you're not self-funding the thing (which is pretty silly imo).

And yet I would hardly list mining 5 as prerequisite for an orca, even if it is a necessity on a hulk or mining barge.
Irrelevant support skills for predecessor ships are irrelevant?

You seriously would go with no RR at all on a super carrier? Why? Make more room for DCUs so you can finish those sanctums faster?
/facepalm

Yes, I would absolutely go with no RR on my supercarrier. It's not a logistics platform anymore. The highs should be filled with neuts and smartbombs. You've got a ship which generates more capacitor than almost any other platform in the game, on a hull with enough EHP and ewar immunity to justify officer cap rechargers...
...you take advantage of that with high quality energy neutralization. DPS takes more forms than another bomber, you know.

Call me old-fashioned then, but I still think you should keep the RR mods in the cargo and switch them in as needed. -----------

High quality energy neutralization? Keeping your curse alive with one RR would do a bazillion times more good than having one heavy neut that only works in a small radius around a big fat slow ship
Honestly, not having RR on a supercarrier (especially when you can spidertank a whole lot of them together) is about as stupid as back when carriers were introduced and the standard fit had a couple DCUs, neuts, and smartbombs without remote rep

lol no rr on a super cap. What you gonna do when you fly in a SC fleet and get under attack and scream for RR while you log off to save your ass and everyone goes: Ow sorry we only have energy neuts and smartbombs on our supercarriers
