quick question:
how does the loot that is in a wreck get spawned? is it just totaly random chance from the items posable to be salvaged from that type of wreck? or is there a time element involved somehow to only allow a certain amount of the good items compaired to metal scraps?
I guess what im asking is, if 20 wrecks are salvaged in 1 min, will that be the same chances as if 1 wreck is salvaged in a diferent location every 2 hours?
the obvious answers will be its all luck, but do we know if the formula is more complicated then the obvious? |

maybe there is a anti-farming component to this, at least it seems so.
no one knows? |

It is straight random chance, based on the faction (which affects what kind of salvage you get - no armour stuff from Guristas for example), size of the wreck (amount of salvage). There is definitely a difficulty factor in there as well, as the elite versions of rats drop better salvage. This may be tied to bounty, I am not sure.
Anyways there is no time component, or anti-farming code.

thanks for the info. I hope you are correct. I am not actually talking about rat wrecks, but it is most likely the same mechanic aplies.
I have found today with a lot of experimentation, i can predict the drop as being premium loot for the 1st 3-4 wrecks in 10 min or so. After that it rapidly degrades in quality. If i waite 4 hours or so it returns to premium for the first several again. my sample group consists of aprox 100 wrecks so im thinking its not enough sample data. |

Sounds like a good experiment to try.
However, skill level, equipment, implants, ship bonus, etc will all affect the amount and chance of salvage.
I've gotten excellent salvage from the first wreck and also from the last wreck. Even after the wrecks are one hour old. Even up to the point when they start despawning.

That is not true. None of those things affect the amount of salvage you get from a wreck, only the chance at successfully "opening" it on each cycle. There is no way to affect the amount or quality of salvage with skills.

so, i wonder, is the salvage loot of a particular wreck already decided when that mob spawns? dies? salvaged?

Honestly, my belief is that each ship type (not class, mind you) is the determining factor, with a small percentage variance which is in part based on your skills.
For example, I can absolutely count on netting 18-25 Armor Plates from the Blood Raider side of Worlds Collide every time I run it. I think this is mostly due to the fact that I see a set number of Corpus Archon, Corpus Prophet, etc. Battleships in the mission every time that I run it.
As far as loot is concerned, it is my belief that each ship has the ability to drop any item from a fixed list of modules that would be reasonably fitted to that ship. Thus, Blood Raider Battleships only drop Large Laser Turrets and Missile Launchers, when a weapon is selected to drop.
This is anectdotal, of course, but I've run a LOT of level 4 missions in EvE.

you guys are all missing the point and trying to answer a question I wasnt clear in asking.
let me clear it up for you.
when I self distruct my t2 ship and then go to salvage it. my experiance has been out of 100 tries that the 1st 3-4 tries net me a premium t2 salvage item. after the first 4 tries it rapidly degrades to only giving me metal scraps. if i wait 3-4 hours i get great results for the first 4 wrecks. If i switch to a differant salvaging toon, he gets great results in the first 4 wrecks.
seems to me there is an anti-farming formula built in there somewhere.
I just really want to know how long i need to wait between runs of how many? Or is the 100 t2 ships i just blew up not enough of a sample group? my results were very consistent. |

So all you players who have blown up 100+ T2 ships just to check what you get in salvage please help the Contessa out.
EVERYONE SEEMS NORMAL UNTIL YOU GET TO KNOW THEM. |

Haven't you answered your own question then? Obviously no one here know's the "cooldown" time on getting good loot from salvage (i.e. a T2 ship for example), and obviously you're way ahead of what most of use know about this proposed anti-farm algorithm. Seems to me that you're the logical candidate to get empirical data and blow the story wide open! You'll be so e-famous!!
I must admit, this is a very interesting post

It was only half-sarcasm (this IS potentially a big deal to the community - if it's true)

I've had 3 exams this week and classes all morning today... my brain is 100% fried. I can't keep up with the witty banter and subtle secrets... so I'll now gracefully bow out and go farm sleepers while staring at the screen with perhaps a little drool running out of my mouth.

Chance = Amount
So, a player who has level 3 salvaging skill with Tech 1 Salvager, no implant or rig fitted will definitely get way less salvage and take way longer to get salvage compared to a player with lv 5 salvaging, Tech 2 equipment with salvage implant and rig.

Do you have any data that supports this, specifically the "less" and "amount" parts? ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

Nope, chance = chance, no skills affect the amount of salvage.

My God, you people are either just way too stubborn or just too blind to read between the lines. Instead of taking everything so literally, try to think outside of the box. I guess instead of doing that you'd rather just troll.
If you have a higher chance to get salvage compared to another player, than you'll in fact get more salvage than that player. Plain and simple. WTF is so hard to understand about that?

No. You will get the same amount of salvage. It will just take more (or less) time.
You say that with lower skills you'll get "way less salvage and take way longer to get salvage" which isn't true: you will get less salvage or it will take longer. One of the two, not both. In order for your statement to be correct, the salvage chance would have to directly affect the amount ù it doesn't. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

lol nope, you will always get the salvage, it will just take more time to get it.
Chance = Chance to get anything per cycle.

After years of salvaging, chance does equal chance. But know this, it is chance to successfully salvage the wreck, not to actually get anything from the wreck. Salvaging a wreck can return nothing. This is still considered a successful salvage by the game.
So with a 50% chance to salvage, you would "open" [as mentioned before] the salvage part of the wreck 1/2 of the time. The actual salvage you get is based on a entirely different set of tables and is affected by the size of the ship, the faction of the ship and possibly its location.
And all of this is irrelevant to the OP, I would be interested in your little experiment Contessa.

lol, if you're so correct then explain this.
I and another player farmed Part 10 of level 3 'Kidnappers Strike' for a week. He had level 3 Salvaging skill and I had level 4. We both used 1 Salvager module each. The 1st day I did all of the Salvaging and the 2nd day he did it. I did it again on the 3rd day and the 4th day was him. Both time's that he did the Salvaging it took him longer and he received less Salvage compared to me. The last few days of the mission I ended up doing all the Salvaging due to that as well as a consensus by both of us.

I'm telling you what CCP claims happens. lol Learn what random means and apply that to your studies, all this shows is that the plex doesnt give the same salvage every day.
