Edited by: Culmen on 05/11/2010 03:07:59 I only played the demo, I think I saw enough.
Game playwise, they tried too hard to be like Starcraft, and Starcraft II:WOL is easily more then 12 times the game Supreme Commander II is. Heck they even share the same initials.
The dialogue there just put me off. It could be divided into two categories, the lines that made me cringe and the lines that made me laugh. All of the jokes fell into the former category, everything serious fell into the latter.
So yeah, buy Starcraft II or get SupCom: Forged Alliance, if you own both, then just replay them.
and further more why do i even need a sig? |

Edited by: Miriam Letisse on 05/11/2010 04:19:46 I think I saw some people calling it "SupCom Lite", which is a fair assessment of what it is.
There's some good ideas in it that would be great in Forged Alliance, such as the Noah Unit Cannon and Giant hovering battlebrains. The path finding of large groups of units is far superior to SC 1 which makes it easier to coordinate attacks seeing as you don't have to micromanage them.
In fact everything new in SC2 is fantastic, but they removed all the best bits from the first one as well; there's no T1/T2/T3 anymore, instead we have an upgrade system which is better or worse depending on how you look at it, I quite like it. Aircraft no longer require refuelling and rearming, nor do they land, which also means no more aircraft carriers.
Having never played the Single player campaign I can't comment there.
I could go on but I think that for ú5 it's not a bad deal, it's still Supreme Commander, a bit lighter than the first but it runs much smoother too. Unless there's something more pressing that you want to spend ú5 on I'd say go for it.

If you want Starcraft 2, get Starcraft 2, not SupCom 2, which is an inferior copy of it.

For 5 bucks it's definitely a bargain.
The game still has that 'battle opera' spectacle, the tech tree is nice, the maps have plenty of flavour including some from SupCom 1 and the multi-player community is alive and kicking despite SC2.
The faction stories are weak and the campaign uninspired, but other than that it's a lot of fun for any rts connoisseur.

I played the campaign but have not played it since. The game mechanics are borked. You can sit back and build lots of artillery. It does not have the rock-paper-scissors depth of Supcom FA.
It's intended more for the console crowd. And it was Chris Taylor's cash cow so he can fund other projects. Including his fascination with castles.

hey now, why are people comparing SC2 to starcraft 2 saying stuff like "SC2 is sucky copy of starcraft 2" and all that, if there's like, 1-2 years gap between them ---

SupCom 1 > SC2 > SupCom 2.
Original Sup Com and FA is still the best for me, but for ú5 it's worth the effort, it's not to bad for quick mp games but it if they'd stuck with the core of the original it might have been a whole lot more.

SupCom2 was designed to hike on the then current SC2 hypetrain. It started (full) development very near the original Starcraft 2 announcement date - Coincidence? I don't think so ;p

still, two years is like, i dunno, lol?
unless they wanted to chug a crapload of money fast and not worrying about SC2 taking the seat, and they pushed it with like 85% features and stuffs.

it is my humble opinion that supcom 1 is better than SC2, because SC2 isn't really innovative at all, like pretty much every blizzard game.
sure it has zomg cinematographic story and all that, but beyond that it's pretty much SC1 v2.0 with pretty GFX in it.
tbh, they could take out all the vids of SC2, work on them to give some sort of continuity between then to make up for them missions, and you would have a blockbuster there. ---

Nah.
SC and SC2 are all about balance and to be fair they've nail it, but Sup Comm also has that and more depth, of course its subjective so it's not to everyone's taste but you can play a game similar in scale to a SC or SC2 match but then you can also play it at a scale far beyond what SC and SC2 offer.
In that respect it is "better" imho.
Plus the map zooming in Sup Comm is made of win.
