Aside from the lack of post content, if you need to as, then you're doing it wrong. First comes the finding of a reason for making a corp, then the making of the corp.

look, content! how bout make what you wanna do in eve. if u wanna mine make mining corp mission make mission corp
if u wanna pirate be a pirate corp you can be anti pirate and do that too. its really up to you, but before pvping i would have some isk to spend. if your alone you could always leave corp and join another but its all up to you that why eve is a sandbox ( dont listen morons that think eve is a pvp game)

I suppose this is true. I didn't want to see the idiotic ramblings of the NPC corp channel coming up every time I logged on. Therefor, I made my own corp.
Though one day, I would like to take over some 0.0 space. Maybe in the next 2 years or so, I suppose...

I'd love to know what percent of Eve players got stuck in one of these as their first corp, and the average time it took for them to leave and find someone who knew WTF they were doing.

Any ideas on that?
Congratulations!
Now you have a rear opportunity to learn from your not wise decision (no offence).
In RL for such action, you probably regret by losing huge amount of real money.
So now, you know the true: do not make your own business without proper business plan.
This is not sarcasm.
Before taking any actions you should make clear what do you want in the game (same as in the RL) If you don't know that, then spend a time for trials of different subjects as long as it become clear what do you want ( even craziest wishes are OK as long as those wishes are really achievable )
Then work on your plan how you going to go step by step towards your target.
Yea... I know ... that sucks..., but it is serious and hard work that must done before, if you want success in your corporation (business).
Like one hero from some theatrical said: "What a devil brought you into that galley!? "
Of course, I am not going to explain everything here. This is not the right place to make to you lection that includes 2-3 years of real studies in the RL.
You have to use your initiative and creativity and/or even enrol yourself into any decent business course anywhere.

Your corp should be a mining corp, you need to go to Conoban to recruit new players to join your corp, then you should take them all to Inghenges and have them run missions for Ishukone when they aren't doing mining ops for the corp.
As far as being trustworthy do a can test, drop a can and see if they will mine with you and not steal your ore, you can do a I'll get my industrial and split the minerals with you or just see if someone takes your ore, if they don't screw you over recruit them.

Find trustworthy people, now you are really having a laugh. You take a risk with anyone you don't know, which is no different to RL. Usually you get to know people over time, thier interests etc... but you never really know a person.
Eve is full of scammers so you have your work cut out.

You'd probably be better of joining somebody elses corp to get some actual experience of what they do and what is involved.
