Im sorry, but you must have mixed EVE online with a different online game. What you just experienced simply isnt possible in this game...

I had 4 members of EVE University stuck in my WH, and also found them the exit. (Apparently the scanner was to be #5, but the WH collapsed when #4 went through. So the scanner was in one W-system, and the other 4 in ours). Also 2 of their fleet were logged out and the exit was about to collapse, so I gave them a probe launcher and some probes. And they gave me about 20x their value in return.
Eventually their friends logged in and they all found the new exit and left.
I guess if you are taking a fleet from W-System to WS, have a scanner in front AND at the rear, so if you get split up you can still escape. Or better yet, everyone has probes.
