I've searched around quite a bit looking to answer some questions I've had about bracket lag.
I'de like to confirm that bracket lag (fps slow down that improves when brackets are turned off) is primarily CPU based. I believe this because I'm running a hd 5970 and only an x6800 dual core.
I know how to manage my brackets fairly well, but was wondering if anyone out there knew of a system setup that allowed for full bracket gameplay even in large fleet warfare. Latency issues aside - I often have to hide some or all brackets when engaged in fleet fights that involve over 400-500 people on a single grid.
Would faster CPU and motherboard improve full bracket performance, or is everyone just forced to juggle bracket settings when in huge fleet fights?
Is there any system setup out there that can handle the full load of 600+ players fighting on grid with bracket on full... With 60 fps? What about 30 fps?
Please post your specs. Thanks for the info |

That depends on if you like to play with liquid N2 as a coolant ;)

I dont think its possible to show all Brackets..
But i'm usually running at around 10fps at 400 Brackets on screen. With an E8400 at its stock 3GHz. I think they should someday switch Brackets from being just UI things to actual Polygons. I think the GPU could handle them much better than the CPU alone..

I guess you could try lowering the resolution if you have a gargantuan monitor.
Other than that, the usual stuff. Set graphics on low, download the latest drivers, try not to have anything running in the background and restart the PC before joining the fleet, maybe tinker with overclocking if possible.
Still, you don't really need to have brackets on in large battles, as long as the FC keeps calling primaries you'd be fine with only the overview ( and right click for oh****warpwarpwarp! ).
Oh, I'm running:
Gigabyte G41M-ES2L Motherboard Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0 GHz ATI Radeon HD 4850 4 GB of RAM 64-bit Windows 7
It's a few years old now, but runs EVE fine even in those infamous NC blobs. You could get quite a beast built for 500 bucks these days with some help from IT friends ( everyone has one ) or a friendly site.
Best of luck! ---

If you zoom out you still get the same fps drop off, so it has nothing to do with the video card really because an ancient PC could handle EVE's zoomed out graphic detail, even with thousands of ships.
I just don't think the interface is coded very well.

good ol' UI problems.
brackets being a CPU leak is just one of the many problems the UI has. ---

Thing is in those fights their is sooo much to process, put you graphics on lowest and try to avoid brackets, even i struggle and my pc was just built 2 weeks ago.
AMD phenom II x 6 at 3.2Ghz 8GB of Ram AMD HD 6950 GPU 2GB V RAM
Personly i dont do alot of big fleet fights but, the times i have its been a pain in the glutes, im sure somone wil be able to tell you the best way to optimize your client.

Q6600 3.2Ghz, 8GB ram, 4850, ping < 30ms
I was in Ashab last night with brackets set to nothing, still experiencing lag. Framerate is a slideshow. Carrier still present 15 minutes after it's self destruct (I know because there are people in fleet saw it happen 15 minutes before me).

hd 5970 and only an x6800 dual core.
^^ maybe there is bandwidth problems eh? you need to check your throughput you might be starving one direction from those two bits of hardware..
Some games can benefit from setting your timer resolution to maximum if the defaults are like 15ms.. making it 4ms can make a difference to things like hitching some get in games when imagery is scrolling them by..
Hey but what do I know im just a girl.. :D
