Freedom is a privilage not a Birthright. And its so easily taken away if abused.
Ever wonder why so many people are in jail for something they though they where free to do? why? because it voilates another person's freedom rather directly, like the right to live or own a car or the sort or the right to live in peace.
I mean if you run into a crowded theater and shout fire and pull the fire alarm they are going to arrest you and declaring freedom of speech is not going to save you in court at all. Pre-order your Sisters of ≡v≡ Exploration ship today, Updated 1SEPT10

In a 9-0 decision, the Supreme Court extended the full protection of the First Amendment to the Internet in Reno v. ACLU, a decision which struck down portions of the 1996 Communications Decency Act, a law intended to outlaw so-called "indecent" online communication (that is, non-obscene material protected by the First Amendment). The court's decision extended the same Constitutional protections given to books, magazines, films, and spoken expression to materials published on the Internet. Congress tried a second time to regulate the content of the Internet with the Child Online Protection Act (COPA). The Court again ruled that any limitations on the internet were unconstitutional in American Civil Liberties Union v. Ashcroft (2002).

So basicly, you are making a statement,
that is intended as a blatant troll,
mentioning the specific forum rule against trolling to discourage trolling,
while wishing for it,
most likely to test out how the community will retaliate and will CCP allow an obvious troll if you mask your thread as a neutral statement and back it up with their own rules.

You also have the right to bear arms but try holding that up when you walk into a government building.
Private institutions also have the right to put out certain guidelines for others to follow, things like no shoes, no shirt, no service; or they may require you to go as far as wearing a tie. Failure to follow these simple rules would allow the business to not give you service. This institution has posted a set of rules for us to follow. Now looking at your history I see a post that contained no real content, and they have posted that non constructive posts shall be removed. You then made a thread discussing moderation, and they have a rule that states not to talk about moderation. I could even see this thread turning into a nation bashing contest, especially with the blatant OP troll, which will eventually lead to its lock.
You may think that you are being witty but the key point to remember here is that if you walk into somebodies house then you are their guest and you will abide by their rules as they would abide by yours when they come visit you.

Yes, and you're completely missing the point Fry is making. INVENTING new words or phrases makes language interesting and exciting. Using language in an improper way simply out of laziness or ignorance is a completely different and altogether intolerable issue, one which even he admits at 5:00. "It's the implication of NOT CARING that underlies it."
"Citizenship" means being a citizen of a country. "Citizen Ship" sounds like some ridiculous indie film.

before you go boasting about freedom of speech i suggest you try exercising it. go stand in front of a sports stadium that's letting out and try chanting "the usa sucks". might want to start a pool though beforehand to help offset the hospital bills.
you might also consider googling that british motoring tv show and manlove. should lead you at an absolutely interesting clip of the british hosts attempting to exercise free speech and the resultant hail of rocks and abuse from the local rednecks.

Then yeah, you have a reason to be proud you're a citizen of the USA. Otherwise you're just Random Joe Nobody beating his chest about something he imagines having done that deserves any recognition whatsoever.

Any limitations IMPOSED BY THE GOVERNMENT on communication over the Internet are unconstitutional. It's a subtle yet very important distinction. This means that anybody that's not a government employee and/or not acting on behalf of the government HAS the right to shut you up wherever he has the power to shut you up whenever he wants to for whatever reason, and it's perfectly constitutional.

I guess I'm proud to also be an American, though it's not so important to me. What I really ****ing want is for people to stop criticizing, verbally abusing, and trying to kill me for things that our government does and that I have absolutely not a god damn thing to do with. I always come across images, texts, or people saying horrible things about Americans like we're all evil and we're all idiots. Oh well, I guess the most powerful will always be the most targeted for such.

I'm proud because I'm not American, for example. In my country we don't have Freedom of Speech... that's true.... However, we have another thing called "Anarchy" - where everyone can say and do whatever they think of and no one gives a flying f*** about it. You only get caught if you are into something that you can be criminally charged for. Otherwise, who cares.

You see, there's this thing allegedly called "democracy" which people from the USA generally sort of care about, something which they say they practice and apparently try to shove everybody else's throat, some system of government in which the actions of their leadership are supposed to somehow reflect "the will of the people" to some degree, a degree which is supposedly at least a bit above random choice. So why are you so surprised if people from outside the USA hold the citizens of the USA responsible for their government's actions ?!?
At least if you guys were headed by a dictator, you'd have a pretty damn good excuse. Oh, wait, some other people WERE headed by a dictator, and you sort of declared war on them and killed quite a few of those that really had little choice but to comply with something they might have not even agreed with. Hmm, I guess killing them was somehow LESS offensive than blaming one of you guys for the choices of your leadership... ...hmm... ...explain to me again, how exactly does that work ? I seem to have reached a logical dead end. Care to give a logical hand out of it ?

Sadly, I've experienced this. Being in war with NATO because of a dictatorship which we all hated and wanted/tried to take down isn't a pleasant experience at all Ironically enough, the operation was called "Merciful Angel"

You're an idiot who has no idea of what you're talking about. The United States is NOT a pure democracy, first of all. It's an indirect democracy. We elect officials to make the decisions on our behalf. However...
Sure, we elect officials who make decisions, but it's nearly always extremely close to a 50-50 vote. That means a very sizable portion of us do not agree with what the government is doing, or just want no part of it at all. On top of that, politicians lie. Anyone with intelligence knows this, and this is why they say one thing when we're electing them and do something different when they actually get into office, and then there's not much we can do. As for the Iraq war, just like you (obviously), I don't know all the details of what happened in Iraq. I honestly care not to, either, at this point. I, like most Americans towards the end of Bush's office and at the beginning of the war, did not support the war. However, like most (intelligent) people, I also understood that, once Bush sent the troops, we couldn't exactly just pull out of Iraq without horrible consequences for their people.
So please, stop talking. Or, you could just keep wasting your breath and show your idiocy for everyone else. Either way, it won't bother me.

I always come across images, texts, or people saying horrible things about Americans like we're all evil and we're all idiots. if you truly believe in democracy you should understand that you are some how responsibly of the action of you gov, by doing or no doing you something you made a choice each time you make a choice there will be someone blaming you for your choice

Yeah, you CAN do something about it. But you're too complacent and content in your comfortable little isolated four walls to care enough to do it. I'm not saying I would do more if I was in your position... but at least I'm not offended when I'm criticized.
MY country is in the dumps. I *KNOW* our politicians are corrupted to the bone. I *KNOW* my countrymen have the political attention span of an ADHD kid in a sugar rush nowadays. But I don't really give much of a damn anymore, and couldn't care less if somebody calls us... well... almost anything. Because I know it's mostly true.

Funny you should mention just the latest in a long series of wars that would fit the exact same description.

Let's put it in simpler terms, maybe you'll understand. Representative democracy (that's what it's called, not "indirect democracy") is still a form of democracy. In fact, you should be called a "Republic". Or better still, "The United Confederation of North American Republics". But I digress again. It's _some_ form of democracy, and the main reason of having a democracy instead of a monarchy or dictatorship is so that "the people" are more accurately represented in the political decision-making process. And like the comic books say, "with great power comes great responsibility". Or in your case, "with a tiny bit of distributed power comes a little bit of distributed responsibility". So, when people complain about the USA, they can't help but complain a little bit against every last one of you. If you want to be absolved of any responsibility, you'd have to also be ready to relinquish all power. Switch your government to a monarchy or a dictatorship and we'll TOTALLY shut up about the individuals. Seriously.

So calling attention to the fact that by having the power to elect people in charge you are also partially responsible for their actions IS RACIST (or, more accurately, "no better than racism") ?

 Ok, now I've heard everything.
So, pray tell, WHO EXACTLY is responsible for a government's actions ? JUST the people in power, and maybe just a few of the people in power ? Or maybe not even them, but those that provide not quite accurate intel ? Are you sure it's not the least bit also the people that fail to stop them from doing the wrong thing even if they theoretically could by still following the law to the letter ? Or maybe somehow magically NOBODY is even the littlest bit responsible ? Nobody, at all, not even a teeny tiny bit ?

Why's everyone so ****ed? This thread was obviously troll bait.
Here's the short, short version.
The US is a republic. It elects people to public office to represent citizens JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER DEMOCRATIC NATION ON THE PLANET. That's all it is. There is no more freedom in the US than any other western nation, and if you believe there is then you've obviously never been outside the US.
That's it. /thread
