Ask yourself "what is it we do in this corp?" What is the activity that your members do together and how do you keep that going when you are not around.
Once you know what it is that keep members coming back day after day, it may be easier to find one or two that can help.
Example. In the corporation I am in, we have one CEO and three members with director rights. We often find ourselves using the same ships for PvP so we bought a whole lot of them and stuck them in our hangars for members to borrow if needed. To assist the directors and help keep track of who borrowed what, we have a role called "Duksedreng." (rough translation: teachers pet.)
While a Duksedreng is not a director and therefore cannot do quite as much, the role does allow access to our "loaner ships."
That was just one example of using the roles to solve specific tasks that come up. The trick is to have only active members in these roles and only roles that are actually needed. Do not be afraid of reducing the number of privileged members if needed and do not be afraid of removing inactive members from access. Be vigilant and prune member lists often.
Try asking your members what they think. Call a Teamspeak/Ventrilo/Eve voice meeting and explain to them why you think the corp. needs more leaders. Maybe they have ideas for what is needed.

I must object to the removal of these posts. I think they demonstrate a highly effective manner for running an alliance or corporation. By creating a North Korean-esque personality cult, Montolio (LONG MAY BE HIS GLORIOUS REIGN) has developed a situation where he may delegate many tasks without worry of revolt amongst his generals. Never underestimate the place of a personality cult in the smooth running of a corporation.

CEO - Runs corp like a bawss, head FC
IT Director - manages websites, api, killboard etc
Logistics Director - Manages pos' and manufacturing
HR - Manages recruitment
Propaganda - Handles public affairs and promotion of corp
