Hello All,
I am quite confused about the Booster beyond Squad.
If I am in a squad X, Wing Y,
Do I get Boost from Squad and Wing Booster? or only one of them? Do I also get the Fleet Boost?
Any guidance would be nice,
Thanks, Apollo |

You get bonus from your squad commander as long as he doesent have more members then his skill allows. You get bonus from your wing commander if your squad has a squad commander and the wing commander dont control more squads then he have skill for. You get bonus from fleet commander if your wing has a wing commander and your squad has a squad commander.
Bonuses always go down never up. So if your squad commander has better boost then you wing commander the wing commander will not recieve the bonus.

Clear as mud, twice as deep.
Now here is interesting quandary: what if I(squad booster) have siege warfare 5 and my wing booster has skirmish warfare 5 ... does my squad receive both bonuses?

Yes, your squad does, but the wing booster does not. He only receives his own bonus, and whatever the fleet commander provides (if any).

Although it was already mostly pointed out:
Fleet Booster boosts everyone in his fleet, including the Fleet Commander. Wing Booster boosts everyone in his wing, including the Wing Commandr. Squad Booster boosts everyone in his squad, including Squad Commander. Different bonuses from different leadership skills stack, like Siege V+Skirmish V both add their corresponding bonuses. Same bonuses from same leadership skills do not stack, only the highest bonus applies, like if there's a booster for Siege V and one for Siege IV, you'll only recieve Siege V.

So first let me say thanks for all the replies,
Now, lets say we have a 5 person squad, can we have a squad and wing booster (a wing of 1 squad?)
I am still a little puzzled as to how this system works, it seems to me like you'd just give the best guy with leadership skills fleet booster. Is the reason to have more than 1 booster for warfare links primarily?

Yes, you can have both. You need 1 common squad member only, at least 1 squad commander, 1 wing commander... So the minimum to get a wing boosted is 3 people. If you want warfare links, the booster with them should be set on top of the group you want him to boost.
There are many possibilities to set up a fleet. The only thing you need to remember is that it works like water flows upwards in a tree, the root is the fleet booster, and his water (his boosts) will flow into every branch (wings), the branch's water will flow along with root's to the leaves (squads) and the water of the levaes flow into the cells (squad members) alongside the root's and brach's water. The exception is, that along the way only the highesdt level skill (the more tasty water, if you like) will apply.
Hope that clears it up.

Thank you, it is helping ... not sure why this concept is tough for me to grasp fully. I wasn't really aware of all the warfare links and considered boosting to just be skills for a long time and since the best skill was used, I didn't understand why you'd need more than one, but I think I get it.
So you have three pilots
Larry - Wing Booster w/link X Curly - Squad Booster w/link Y Moe - Squad Commander
Please rate the following statements as true or falso or none of the above. 1) Then Curly & Moe get link X and Y bonus (assuming they are different).
2) Curly and Moe get the best skill boost of Larry and Curly.
3) Larry gets link X and his skills.
4) Larry also needs to be squad commander.

Edited by: Abdiel Kavash on 24/11/2010 05:15:27 Let me specify this a little more:
Originally by: Apollo Gabriel Larry - Wing Commander and Wing Booster w/link X and has Wing Command I or more Curly - Squad member and Squad Booster w/link Y Moe - Squad Commander and has Leadership I or more
1) Then Curly & Moe get link X and Y bonus (assuming they are different). Correct.
2) Curly and Moe get the best skill boost of Larry and Curly. Correct.
3) Larry gets link X and his skills. Correct.
4) Larry also needs to be squad commander. False. You can not be a Wing and a Squad commander at the same time.
Perhaps the easiest way of explaining this is:
If you have a Squad Commander with Leadership skill high enough to control your squad (2 members per level), you are receiving bonuses from the Squad Booster of your squad.
If you have a Wing Commander with Wing Command skill high enough to control your wing (1 squad per level), and a Squad Commander with skills high enough to control your squad, you are receiving bonuses from the Wing Booster of your wing.
If you have a Fleet Commander with Fleet Command skill high enough to control the fleet (1 wing per level), a Wing Commander with skills high enough to control your wing, and a Squad Commander with skills high enough to control your squad, you are receiving bonuses from the Fleet Booster.
Here "bonuses" include all the XXX Warfare skills, bonuses granted from Warfare Links, and by some specific ship types (i.e. Titans). If you are receiving the same bonus (meaning, the same skill, module or ship used) from multiple people, only the highest bonus actually applies, regardless of which person in the command chain provides it.
The (unit) Commander and (unit) Booster can and usually are the same person, but they do not need to. The above applies in either case. ___________

Very helpful thank you!
So the guy at the top is altruistic in the end, I assume there are many "standard" ways of determining who should be at top, now I get the system it'll be easier to get. =============================== || Don't let the Trolls keep you from your goals. || =============================== |

Thanks for the comments and advice. I am just moving into this area myself and have a further question if I may.
Background is that weÆre a small w-space group and IÆm wanting to utilise a mining alt to give us some combat bonuses, for both sleeper shooting and uninvited visitor shooting (and one of the combat alts provides the orca and boosts for mining ops). Skillwise that alt is almost able to be a fleet commander and to use the warfare boost modules.
My question relates to whether I need to have all of fleet commander, wing commander, and squad commander positions filled and suitably skilled for the boosts and bonuses to operate? Can I get the same benefits from just having a squad, with that character as booster, or do I get benefits from also filling the wing and fleet command positions?
I think we have the skills to fill those positions, but our fleets are rarely more than half a dozen strong and it seems kinda odd setting up a small fleet with over half your members in æcommandÆ positions.
Cheers Subs

You can work with a squad only. Setting up wing (and/or fleet) is needed if you have many people or multiple boosters specialized in boosting different attributes. Also note that the commander and the booster need not be the same character.

i dont tell people that. i know its true, but its better they DONT KNOW about the right click to "set booster" option. it only serves to confuse them. i hate not getting bonus' because someone thinks it will be that simple.

Brilliant, thank you.
We have generally been setting booster role character as the commander, but will now experiment with having that character as non-commander booster ... altho since it's a very non-combat character (only really a danger to loitering 'roids, ice, and gas-clouds) I am fearful of inadvertantly squad warping him in to be killed by sleepers or uninvited visitors.
Thanks again, we will test and experiment further.
