Hi Guys, just looking for suggestion, currently I'm working on Gallente but only have regular ships in my plans(Destroyer, Cruiser, BC, BS), should I be looking at something else? I looked at other ships Interceptors, Inty's, etc. but they seem flimsy in specs, now I'm very experienced in PVP so I'm sure they're good in reality, but I don't want to train for 2-3 months then go "Oh S**T, I chose the wrong Ammo" or something to that degree.

Short and simple, any race can solo pvp.
If you want easy mode, go minmatar. Their ships are most geared towards solo guerilla tactics (via speed and agility). But if you are skilled and have a good understanding of game mechanics you can really make almost any ship, and certainly any race, work. |

The real challenge is fighting the fights you can win. If you are in the fight with a hammer vs scissors, you win. Now the reason Minmatar get so much grief about being easy is that in general they are very fast and can get the frack out of a fight they can't win.
Amarr - Great tanks, great damage, but slow, very slow(except shield harby, then just slow), if you jump into a fight that changes, like more people add, or you get neuted, you can't get away and you die. If you however have a curse or pilgrim and catch someone, you win. It just depends on what the fight is.
Gallente - Great tanks, Great damage IF close range. If you are fighting minmatar, they can fight furhter away than you, so your blasters do little or no damage, and its very hard to close the range. Your drones become your weapon, the smart player kills then, then slowly kills you.
Caldari - Great Shields, moderate damage over a long range, although most fights are close, so that aspect doesn't figure it. They have very little "turn it on" damage but good ewar. Typically slow, and then opponent speed hurts you, sadly it never helps you.
Minmatar - Great speed, so so tanks, but the ability to set range and change. If you are losing, get out. You can right at the same range as Amarr, our range Gallente, if the Caldari out range you, you leave.
Everything changes in a gang, everything. In a gang that caldari ship which could rain down great ranged damage, gets to, cause someone else will point them and make you "safe".
best, Apollo

The biggest thing about solo PVP is choosing your targets. If you like searching for hours for a decent target then you'll like solo pvp.
I enjoy it sometimes but usually I end up getting impatient and pVppppppppppppppppppppp not in my favor, and die ofcourse.
Anyways, some good ships for solo pvp IMO. Taranis, Ishkur, hurricane, drake, falcon/rook, dramiel, cynabal(never used them personally), believe it or not Harpy in some situations, vagabond, comet(basically a taranis), Navy slicer.
I'm sure there are more but those come to mind first. The most cost effective ships, as far as capabilities and the widest range of targets that you can engage confidently, would be the battlecruisers.
Good luck 0/

Edited by: Mutnin on 16/11/2010 21:36:56 Minmatar = Rifter > Rupture > Hurricane
Gallente = Tristan > Vexor > Myrmidom
Amarr = Arbitrator > Pilgrim /Curse
Caldari = Caracal > Drake
These are pretty good progressions IMO. I added no frigs for Amarr & Caldari because their solo cable cruisers/BC's don't pair up with any frigs that are also capable of soloing, in regards to the weapon systems. (Gallente would likely be the roughest train due to the need to have good drone skills and gunnery skills)
Personally, I started out flying the Arbitrator originally planning to train to the Curse/Pilgrim. However I got a bit side stepped by the Vexor & Myrm then Hurricanes & Drakes.
Caldari do have the Merlin and Amarr has the Punisher but both use weapon system that are not used on their solo capable cruiser hulls. (Amarr has Harbi but TBH it's not great at soloing, but yea it can be done.

Loki.
It's my new favourite toy. Fast, low-sig, hits hard. Combine it with the immobility driver sub and you can dictate terms and pick and choose your fights quite easily.
Nanocane is the cheaper alternative but I kinda fell in love with my Loki recently.

I'm not familiar with all the tech 2 and tech 3 ships. I really only fly in low sec as well.
Solo pvp involves allot of biting bait and trying to run before the trap snaps your neck. Minmatar are ideal for solo, because they can attack well outside of scram range. Their agility and speed allow them to stay there or gtfo when needed. So itÆs the ideal way to poke at bait.
rifter rupture vaga cynabal are all very good solo ships hurricane is good as well.
I like the merlin and drake for caldari solo. Caracal with Assault missiles is good for killing frigates. But it is pretty limited. Not really any other good smaller ships. Maybe hawk will be viable after the buff it is getting.
Gallente thorax or vexor and the myrm as well are all good. Most will have a armor tank so you can't really gtfo so well. But you will be able to kill stuff fast. Many smaller frigs and ceptors. Ishkur, comet, ranis, Tristan, incursus. 2 or 3 webs on a celestis is good for smaller ships too.
Amarr other than the crusader and imperial slicer IÆm not sure I would take much of anything out solo. Harby I suppose but I would rather be in the other bcs. To slow to keep range and once in close often canÆt track well. Amarr and caldari are really races that work best in gangs.
I would say its really between gallente and minmatar but I give the nod to minmatar because they have the gtfo factor.

Edited by: Target Painter on 17/11/2010 11:32:08 The ability to get the **** out is any soloers bread-and-butter. Unless you enjoy continuous lossmails from numerically superior opponents. Hard-hitting plays into this as well, because it allows you to actual get in kills before the backup arrives. Hurricane hits hard and can move fast if you fit it right. Decent enough EHP, excellent DPS, good speed and agility equals winner.

This is huge.
Assault frigates tend to work very well in solo PvP as they have a wide field of what they can engage. Jaguar is great, Ishkur is great, Vengeance is good (with a chance of getting great come the rocket buff). Harpy I dunno, Wolf I'm not the biggest fan but some people like it. The rest can almost be disregarded.
There are also the faction and pirate frigs of course - my personal favourite being the Slicer.
Combat interceptors like Crusader, Taranis, Claw are also nice, but have to be more careful.
Rifters are something inbetween AFs and interceptors, while cheap enough so that you can throw it into ludicrous situations without much worrying about your wallet.

Gallente - Ishtar/Gila/Vigilant also maybe the recons Amarr - Curse/Pilgrim/Sacrilege not sure about the Zealot Caldari - Drake/Nighthawk/Tengu/Gila (Tengu being prtty much one of the best ships ever) Minmatar - Vagabond/Rapier/Huginn/Cynabal
There. Lots of solo ships for every race and more that I didnt list. Cheaper versions would be the T1 varients of the posted ships.

Seriously, ignore people telling you to fly T2 and faction ships. Stick to the T1 stuff while learning, until "You" know enough to know which T2/faction ships will work for your type of game play.
Not to mention you need a lot of skills to be competitive in T2/faction ships. TBH 99% of my PVP is still done in T1 Cruisers & BC's because it's much easier to get fights in them vs some pimp daddy pwn machine.
As for the T2 frigs.. they aren't so bad to get into and learn in, when I mention not flying T2/Faction, I'm referring more to cruiser class and up. Ceptors and some of the Faction frigs like Firetails, Slicers, Comets are pretty cheap and aren't that hard to learn to fly well.

Gallente have actually quite a nice selection of solo boats, lets take a look.
Frigate:
- Ishkur - Best AF
- Taranis - Best combat inty
Cruiser:
- Vexor - Second best cruiser
- Ishtar**
Battlecruiser:
Myrmidon - Arguably the best solo BC because of its amazing tank with the classic dual injector/Triple MAR setup. Great for BC 1v1/1v2s.
Battleship:
Dominix: Again arguably the best solo BS with a variety of good setups including Buffer/Neut AC/DualLAR and Shield Gank.
**Ishtar is a good ship and very flexible for solo pvp however it takes a lot of skill to fly effectively and has terrible fitting stats. It is arguably too expensive for what it does. On the other hand, it's fun as hell to fly.

Sticking with T1 ships is perfectly fine and easier on the wallet. T1 ships are fantastically effective for the price. T2 ships, in general, are very specialized things and excel in a single role while T1 ships are more generalized and can be worked into a lot of different roles.
Don't forget frigates. Although people will tell you that the only frigate worth flying is the Rifter, you can have an excellent PvP experience with frigates from all races (Merlin, Incursus, Punisher). It just comes down to target selection (where the rifter has the widest selection) and not being afraid to lose your ship.
As for interceptors, the Taranis is something to be feared. It's an excellent ship but something you would want to avoid for a while until you're more experienced. The hull itself costs more than a T1 cruiser with mods and it turns into fireballs quickly.
You'll probably end up choosing to stick with BCs and below unless you fly in larger gangs and fleets. Battleships are too slow for solo work, have bad locking times, and will never escape a gate camp.
Since you are Gallente, one thing that I would avoid for now is the stealth bomber. You probably don't have any missile skills at all, and missiles take a lot of SP to be effective. That's time you can spend being more effective with your guns and drones. Plus, the Nemesis is poor compared to the other bombers due to fitting and slot layout (a situation quickly rectified since training any Frigate skill to 5 doesn't take long).
If you decide to cross train, you might want to consider Amarr. This is because the drone skills that you have concentrated on, along with armor tanking, makes you an excellent candidate for the Arbitrator right away which is an excellent ship. Also, you just need to train up lasers to fly everything else.
Hope that helps. : > Fix Rockets in '08 '09 2010 2011 2012?! |

I've been flying the Loki for quite a while now and I must say it's a real multitool for me. The web subsystem really makes a difference for solo warfare, It allows me to escape most of the time when I get blobbed or a small gang jumps in, since going solo you don't always have intel.
I've also got a Covert Prober setup with about 400ish dps and it's real nice to sneak up on people when they least expect it.
Choosing targets has to be one of the most important things, since for me the Loki isn't exactly cheap and I don't use the nullifier.

Any ship will do.
The problem with flying a "solo pvp" ship is that your opponent will assume your an ace and avoid the fight. Thinking of Vagabond, Dramiel, Curse and other popular solo ships.
Find a Gallente t1 frig/cruiser that you like, specialize in that and fit it to fight other 1 vs 1 ships. Improve setup/tactic after every loss.

I'd go with the Vexor, it's really safe from Frigates, unlike other Cruisers and you have so much raw DPS with an 800mm plate, you just warp in a belt and warp out 10 seconds later with loot and a KM.
