At last!. There will be 71 circuits and 1031 cars. Although Gran Turismo Prologue did'nt quite feel right. Hopefully the final full game will have the same brilliance of GT4 and its predecessors .

Edited by: Professor Tarantula on 19/11/2010 05:49:39 Need to get my PS3 back from my sister, who's using it as a bluray player halfway across the country.
More of a PC gamer, but driving games are one of the few things which actually work well on consoles, and Gran Turismo is the ****. Prologue was just a tech demo.

Edited by: Vogue on 19/11/2010 09:58:16 I got a 'Eagle Eye' from Amazon last week. Lets me use a keyboard and mouse with a PS3. The mouse movement is not as fluid as it should be but I am experimenting with mouses. Slowly getting the mouse to how I like it.

It's out and...
It's kinda meh.
On the other hand, apparently the emphasis for Polyphony will be less on GT6 and more on supporting GT5, which is possible for the first time in the series. Curious what they have in mind.

So is this actually a new game, or (like GT2-GT4) just GT1 with improved graphics? I hear this one actually has damage modelling, bringing the franchise into, well, the late 90's. -

I liked the Gran Turismo series starting from the first playstation as It was an arcade racer that I could actually be quite good at. I am not great at arcade games that need super fast reflexes. GT 4 on the PS2 was amazing. GT5 so far has the hardness the right level for me. Going for my first race I got confused when the game asked me to create a driver that has attributes. Did'nt understand this. I carried on and entered a race. I then realised it's a new game mode where 'you' are a race team manager and advise your AI drivers what to do in a race. I then did some beginner races. The 2nd hand car I purchased handled like I expected it to. My only gripe so far is the graphics. Everything near to the car is super sharp. But in the far distance its too blurry and the transition of blurriness to sharpness as objects approach does not look right. And I don't like load time waits with consoles. I wish PS3 had an option to load every game data file to HD. But that is a general console issue. But overall I am glad I got it. I love being able to mod cars from cash and creating hyper fast cars with turbos

If it's anything like its predecessors, the pluses and minuses will be as follows:
+ Impressive graphics + Impressive tracks + Impressive car handling
- Suicidal AI, with 'on rails' simulation behaviour, completely oblivious to the very existence of the player - Overtaking manoeuvres involving slamming the AI into a wall, because of the above and the general 'why-not?' factor - Slamming into a wall at 300 kph not having any significant impact to your car - The outcome of races being dictated by the car you are driving, not skill - Music that makes you turn the music volume as far away from 11 as possible - A GUI that was designed by someone who has never heard of vosprung dutchse technik - The only challenge being your percentile of completion
If it was an MMO, it would be World of Warcraft - but designed by the Japanese.
The only thing about it which would raise my spirits would be online racing - if it wasn't for the fact that very few online races amount to much more than:
- Everyone slams into everyone else - Host players switch off collision, removing the entire point about online racing (as you might as well just be racing against a leader-board of statistics) but for the above reason is understandable - LAG, resulting in what is about to be a well-executed apex turn to victory road, into a mangled mess of metal next to the hotdog seller, as the guy you've been snaking for the last two bends was actually two metres to the right, NOT the left.
So, no thanks.

Xbox fanboi?
Worldwide PS3 sales are trailing behind by only a few million (42 vs 45 for the xbox) despite it being released a full year behind the MS console. It's expected to overtake the 360 some time next year :)
Back on topic, GT5 is pretty much the only option if you want a serious racing game on the PS3. It's VERY japanese, and if you've ever played any other GT before you'll feel right at home despite some changes to the formula, best left for you to discover.
There are some nagging faults though, but nothing you can't forgive.

GT3 still remains the best one in the series imo. _________________________________________________ "Hear hear, a name isn't going to help you do better.
