I recently got BC V trained and was thinking Command Ships looked interesting. I'm hearing though that basically, for PVP, there are better things to fly. My understanding was that they had more DPS and much better tank which sounded promising. Not so? ---

Commands are pretty much the best for pvp, can't do much better other than T3s which are about equal, except they have more agility and speed and are smaller but cost more.

Fine as is (c) Zulupark, 2008 or 2009.
Yet they decided it's a good idea to add tech3, which are better at about everything. Pricetag? Those extra 100-200 mil are of no difference whatsoever.
Join the tech3 bandwagon and save youself a hassle of bothering with gimped ships. ---[center] Please resize your signature to the maximum file size of 24000 bytes. Zymurgist |

Command ships are great for fleet boosting, and in some cases very good PvE ships. Most have great tanks and not much else.
Sleipnir is pretty much the only CS worth a damn in PvP, all the rest are severely lacking in their DPS compared to the much much cheaper BCs.
That said, BC5 is a great skill and well worth the time as it applies to ALL BC hulls.

If you think you can afford them, I believe that T3s are a better return for your SP.
Echoing the advice to train BC 5 anyway.

I hear that you use Command Ships for lvl 5 missions, to take the punishment as primary, and let your fleet of 1 or 2 other DPS ships do the rest.
This is just what I've heard. Could be wrong, usually am ;)

command ships have the misfortune of being nice juicy targets for PVP. That said, so do tech 3's (something about price makes people want to kill stuff...killboards maybe?)

I'd recommend you *not* use a T3. I know a lot of people don't have this objection, but personally my skillpoints only move in one direction and that direction is UP.
T3 is a little better than a command ship, but can't fit all three links, has a similar tank, similar damage, and if you die you lose SP and it costs more.

Most people will take a solo CS for a long and hard, but a sure, kill.

Aye, if you want to go solo get in a recon instead. For a gang a CS for solo a Recon, never a T3 hehe.

I've lost close to a dozen T3s since they've been released and have never lost SPs. Ejecting from your ship works wonders.

T3's also give better fleet boostings than CSs.
So... they make better command ships than Command Ships...

if you are fleet boosting best to be at a pos or in a safespot imo.

T3's are awesome for solo. Fun > a couple of days of skillpoint training. Besides if your smart you'll be PvP'ing in a cloaky T3 and should never lose a fight since you get to pick every one.
IMO T3 cloaky is the king of solo pvp. Sig ---

You can fit 4 links on an unprobeable Tengu. Great for a boosting alt.

The OP is not interested in sitting at a safe spot.
The best CS for boosting a fleet while engaged in combat with them is the Claymore. It can bring near-HAC DPS and a tank to match while providing excellent boosts for a small gang. Cost of the hull is lower than almost any HAC, too.
It also works great as a T2 Cyclone.

Edited by: Sjugar on 20/11/2010 00:10:19 Damnations are pretty much a prerequisite for flying successful AHAC fleets. They've got a very good tank and it's the bonuses that make those nasty zealots that much harder to kill.
You better have maxed out leadership skill though.

I'm amused by the fact that you think not losing SP is more significant than your loss of a dozen T3 ships.

ISK < SP in some circles? Hardly a bizarre stance. |
