Thrasher
7 250mm Artillery 'Scout' I 1 Standard Missile Launcher
Sensor Booster MWD Small Shield Booster
Beta Hull Mod Overdrive Injector Warp Core Stabilizer I
My question is this: I ran against another Thrasher and he was able to knock out my warp and MWD. I asked a couple of people and they said that a warp scrambler I can beat a warp stabilizer I because the stab adds 1 and the scram subtracts 2.
Is this true? Is a warp stab I totally useless or can it actually stop a scram at all?
Are there any skills that would help me overcome a scram?
I am well aware that the stabilizer imposes harsh penalties. I am also able to live with that and use other methods of overcoming those penalties. But my question is what can I do to stop someone from scrambling my warp drive?

Edited by: Culmen on 19/11/2010 02:32:27 Edited by: Culmen on 19/11/2010 02:30:56 The general rule is: Total warp scrambler strength must always be one higher then the number of warp core stabs present, in order to kill your warp drive.
So for example a 20km range warp disruptor has a strength of 1 If you fit a single warp core stab, it would not be able to scramble you.
A 5km warp scrambler has a strength of 2. It will defeat ONE warp core stab. You need to fit TWO warp core stabs to stop from being warp scrambled
Suppose two people with 20km warp disruptors warp scram you, both have a strength of 1 so 2 x 1 = 2 You would need to fit two warp core stabs to prevent from being scrambled.
There are also modules such as warp disruption field generators which have an INFINITE warp scramble strength. No amount of warp core stabs will save you. Ditto with interdiction bubbles in 0.0
Also some ships like Transport Ships have an inbuilt bonus warp core stability, so it acts like they have a warp core stab inbuilt.
Hope this helps.
PS fitting warp core stabs to anything with guns is a waste of time and a module slot. Your targeting system is going to be hurting. Fit somethign else. A damage control or the appropriate damage module for your weapons for example, would be good ideas.
and further more why do i even need a sig? |

Yes! Originally by: Titania Hrothgar Is a warp stab I totally useless or can it actually stop a scram at all?
Warp stabs are not recommended on a combat ship. You are unlikely to ever fit "enough" of them: there is always a situation where you could be unable to warp. Also, the more you fit, the more gimped your targeting range and speed will be.
Originally by: Titania Hrothgar Are there any skills that would help me overcome a scram?
Not specificly. However, anything that helps you kill your opponent or get away from him is helpful.

Break their target lock or drain their cap. You will likely find that active counter measures such as ECM and NOS are more effective than WCS. Try swapping the missile launcher for a NOS or Neut. Also think about swapping the sensor booster + WCS for a web + gyro/tracking enhancer: killing the target is a sure way to stop him from scramming you.

What's a Nos or Neut?

Self reliance is a skill that seems to be lacking in so many new guys these days. You will go far in this game.

Warp Core Stabilizers are good if you intend to run and not fight (so, for example, on transport ships or if you're scouting). In which case, fill all the low slots with them.
You don't want to install them on combat ships because the WCS makes it a lot more difficult for you to lock your targets. Look at the specs page for the WCS; that -50% Scan Resolution "bonus" means you take twice as long, per WCS, to lock your targets.
For combat ships, if you want to warp away, it's better to install a MWD so you can get out of the 20km range of the enemy, or install ECM to break their target lock on you, or energy neutralizers to kill their capacitor and turn off their jammer. Or, better yet, just kill them first.
