So a few weeks back I posted about our first Low-Sec roam. We did it again, this time deciding to take the fight to 0.0 in a wolfpack of frigates.
Armed with a Kitsune, 2x Crusaders, a Retribution, and a Wolf, we headed out for curse. Sadly the gate was camped by 9 dramiels so we went straight for the Great Wildlands. Immediately on jumping in we found 3 locals. We decided to park at the entrance for a bit and D-scan around. Still unfamiliar with the territory, we spend a few minutes deciding weather to go to Curse or plunge into this new unfamiliar place. Initially we hoped to get Mission runners doing the Epic Arc, as well as other pirates hunting them, but the long jumps through unfamiliar territory left us a little shaken. While waiting, one resident told us in local "Welcome to GW." Fitting, we get fanfare on our first trip here. Anyways after a some deciding we press on to curse. At 8YC-AN we split our forces, each watching opposite sides of the gate. Unfortunately due to alcohol and mis-communication on the comms, I was left alone while the other three realized too many people were camping the other side. Before we can get it sorted out one of my pilots warns me an interceptor just jumped through the gate. Alone on the other side in my own crusader, I was met with Rafael Cane in a Claw. He immediately established an orbit, and being faster chose his optimal range to fight at. Despite being in my optimal, I was having trouble tracking him. Fail-pilot on my part results in heavy damage. By this time my allies have jumped in but so has Cane's friends. Sameron appears on grid with a Hurricane and begins firing at me. My buffer is falling fast. Heroically, our CEO Randal Floyd dives straight into the interceptor, matching it's speed on his aproach. As my ship explodes he opens up a can of pain on the interceptor. As the dust settled I delt 258 dmg on Cane while he put 673 damage on me. No question who the better pilot was. Our little gang is left with the Sameron in the hurricane, who has launched a flight of warrior IIs. Last time, we were utterly wrecked by (ecm) drones and this time the gang was on the ball. Eliminiting the drones took seconds and our Kitsune had ECCM on the Hurricane. It's armour was around half when a rupture apeared on grid. DaWuu, fielding 425's rips our Kitsune apart. At this point the fleet attempts to break off, but Floyed in the Wolf is shredded as it disengages the hurricane.
GJ's go into local and we headed home. At the end of the day we stood utterly defeated again, but we were happy for the fight. Again we learned something - watch grid. We were absolutely unaware of what DaWuu was, and what he was flying. At first we thought it was another Cane. Some of us didn't even notice him. Despite this, we did make at least -a- kill and shot up a battlecruiser pretty well. We were confident we'd learned something and thoroughly enjoyed the spanki... learning experience. Hopefully next time goes better.
Epilogue We had hoped next time would go well. It didn't :( Battle cruiser blobs.

Edited by: Nathan Jameson on 19/11/2010 04:25:08 +1 for your attitude.
I've heard from others that the best strategy for roaming in Low/Null Sec is...well, roaming. Camping a system or sitting anywhere for too long gives soft targets a chance to escape and hard targets an opportunity to ambush you.
I've not spent much time in Low Sec myself, so hopefully someone can confirm or deny this.

Having a solid fleet composition is everything, Logistics never hurt either, since, most of what you will see in 0.0/Low-sex will probably have it. An effective ambush is only good for about 30 seconds, usually less.

As long as you're having fun and as long as you try to learn something from each fight (both good and bad) you'll do fine.
So far it sounds like you guys are off to a great start (maybe not successful but a truly great start nonetheless)

OMG NO WAI YOU FOUGHT THE UBER LEET PVPERS THAT ARE RE-AL AND THEY DIDNT FIELD ELEVENTYMILLIONTH DRAKES WITH TWENTYRD SCIMIS FOR A SMALL GANG?
I CAN CONFIRM THIS! TIME LIKES THE MAN MEAT, JUST LIKE THE OTHER DAY WHEN THEY TRIED BLOCKADING THE BVIP PIPE TO PREVENT ME AND A BUDDY FROM RATTING, SO WE FLEW TO 7Q AND BACKDOORED IN, KILLED ONE OF THEIR CYNO KESSYS IN M-M AND HELD A JF THERE FOR A FEW ON STATION.
REMEMBER RE-AL ARE SOV HOLDERS IN GW AND UBER ELITE ALLIANCE (READ FAILBEARS THAT BLOB PVP)
IF YOU WANT A REAL FIGHT OUT OF REAL PVPERS BRO GO FURTHER UP THE PIPE TOWARDS CURSE :D

Thank you for teaching us about sarcasm. I was totally unaware of your meaning until the brackets. I nearly looked silly.

Sounds like fun. Last time I went out in an interceptor gang, we, too, were totally shredded by a Hurricane. They are nasty pieces of work, and their guns seem to have no problem hitting frigates.
Now I fly Hurricanes.
