So my friend just bought the game and consumed a cerebral accelerator.
He got podded by going into lowsec and I've heard that if you want it back you need to file a petition?
Is this correct and what section should he file it under? Thanks. Keep in mind my friend is a very new player.

Tell him to file it under the "Welcome to EVE" category.
Hint: He's not getting it back. - It's not "Play through a pre-set story, become stronger, do endgame". Gameplay is open ended, and you make your own story. Unless you're too afraid of 'pvp grief' to do anything relevant |

You are so wrong. I guess reimbursement would be it, it is not specified by devs. Originally by: CCP Zinfandel But itÆs a booster? What if you get killed? If you are podded within your first 30 days, just petition the GMs and they will graciously restore your booster for you. If youÆre a new player, itÆs a great way to learn the customer service petition system.

Hmmm I guess I am wrong about that. I don't think CCP telling new players that you should petition whenever you get podded is a good idea. In fact why even make it an implant, just give people a 35 day booster effect when you use the item, that way you don't have to waste GM time. Or maybe new players should just learn the harshness of EVE and HTFU. Or am I just the last samurai and I'm talking crazy talk? - It's not "Play through a pre-set story, become stronger, do endgame". You are not the last and i agree with you to a point. But eve's legendary difficulty scale has proven too harsh for far too many. No i do not want a space WoW, but i do think a more gradual slide will bring players further in and properly entrench them within the game thus keeping them. HTFU is very proper when it comes to this game. But if it happens to a noob who has not had a chance to get his bearings (for real players this can be a 2 month or 3 month process mind you now...) around him. They leave. It's a very clear trend CCP wants to stop. I think it's one worth stopping myself.
I live by the phrase 'Dont fly what you cant afford to lose.' As does most of the rest of this game. New players however are the exception because most aren't prepared by previous mmo experiences for that level of 'oh ****'. A screw up in this game can force you to recreate a character. While this happens for other MMO's no recovery time is longer. Good new players leave because they make a noob mistake and find out they'll spend 3-4 months repairing the damage. That's Eve? Yeah it is. But its the reason people leave. CCP believes i think -as do i in this case- that there can be a smoother transition between when a player enters the game for the first time. And when he's ready to start exploring the game and taking the risks this game is so renowned for.

Of course it may well take more than 30 days to get a response, by which time you're more than 35 days "old"

If they don't plug it in, you could use it on another character or sell it, I think it is a good idea to "accidentally" crash your pod on the 29th day.

It seems that CCP intentionally used an implant since "itÆs a great way to learn the customer service petition system". The early petitioning might not be all bad, since the only thing they get back is the implant. They might learn that making a reimbursement petitions for most things are a waste of time.
I think it is a bad idea too though, but mainly because of the unnecessary work and petition queues it causes, going through customer service is never a preferred way of doing things for a customer and because EVEs customer service as a whole has always had more or less bad. Going through petitions is usually something you do when things aren't working properly and the interruption it causes to your gaming is always unwanted, so I would never make a system where petitioning is made part of the new player experience.

I think that was a joke. I'm guessing it's more easy to deal with a few petitions (most of those won't be petitioned unless it's specified in the box, which I highly doubt) than commit development time to a rare item that is limited and will be lost along time.

Wow, you sure sound mad, was I mean to you in another thread? Poor baby. I already said I was wrong about what I originally wrote.
There are huge signs all over that you can die in low/null sec and lose everything, there are warning boxes and everyone will tell a new player not to go to low/null sec. Any new player knows what they are doing so I don't support giving you anything back for free since that is not the case with anything else in EVE.
Anyways that aside the petition thing is just shoddy work done by CCP. Someone brought up a good point, how long do you have to wait to get your petition answered and your implant back. 3-7 days? More? So now you haven't gotten the full 35 days or whatever that you are promised. Here's an idea instead of filing petitions, how about make it so that all accounts <35 days can claim the implant via the ESC menu claiming system? See that wasn't so hard to think up of a better way to handle things. - It's not "Play through a pre-set story, become stronger, do endgame". Gameplay is open ended, and you make your own story. The petition will be by a new player which CCP will answer and fix within 24 hours. Now if the petition was made by a 2+ year old pilot about a major bug or issue it will take 2-3 weeks to get a answer.
Its all because CCP only cares about the cycling of new players over older players. I would have thought this to be obvious by now.

Do you think it's a good idea to reimburse stuff lost to normal gameplay, just because a player is novice? I mean.. This is not what is going to keep the player playing EVE.
There is a warning to enter lowsec and WH.

That seems pretty unintuitive. Unless you give the players some kind of message in-game or in the petitions page telling them to petition such losses in the stuck category, most will petition it using another category.

Me too, lost an Ishtar in low sec the other week. Sure I'm a four year old char and I was drunk and it was to drones (lol!) but hey that low sec is dangerous

I suspect someone screwed up with the description of the "unique item" boxsets seem to come with these days. There's probably something pretty unequivocal about this item working for 30 days regardless of anything else.

it's understandable tho, since the "stuck" category has a higher priority. ---

Until you realize having a petition submitted every single day by hoards nullsec newbies for their implant back because podding in nullsec is the way of life, then you wish you had that special case in the code.

I'm sure that if this became the norm, they'd add rules about not reimbursing the booster if you've been podded in nullsec.
Adding a special case to the code means years of maintenance down the track becomes that much more painful, as opposed to simply handling the reimbursement petitions while they're relatively rare.
