Do you always buy from the cheapest order at a given station, even though you choose another?
For example: today I bought some small armor repairer II in Yulai X. They were for sale @ 467.998 and 476.999. As I find it annoying when people makes orders 1 isk below mine I wanted to buy from the guy who was selling at 476.999. So I right-click, choose buy this, pay.... and the order that now has one less in quantity is the one at 467.998... So I buy from the cheapest anyway, the seller just got 1 isk more? I find this annoying, is it supposed to work like this?

respect.
It's leftovers from the silly system where only the cheapest order would appear in castor, which silly ppl used to bid silly prices.
It's a silly world out there...

The one who offered that item for 476.998 previously sold this item for 477.000 but then came one annoying person who made an offer for 476.999. The righteous first seller was forced to change his price to 476.998 and you still want to buy from this evil person who came to that station and started a price war?
I am calling all customers not to support price wars. Buy the at most expensive prices but sell your minerals to the lowest bidder.

If I could choose who I would buy from, the first seller would not have had to change his price. It's not that I don't want price wars, I just don't consider selling at lowest prize - 1 isk a price war when selling half a million isk merchandise. 1000 isk lower would do it.

If its any help - i actually buy based on quantity or location more than price, as long as the local price isn't stoopidly high. I am in general not prepared to fly several jumps just to save 1000 isk, as the time taken could be used to make far more money doing something else (rat hunting or even mining)

No, you've called your friends to declare war but that's history. A 0.01 isk price war for mineral buy orders is daily business everywhere.

To be serious on this.
I buy my stuff at the losest price for which I need to travel the fewest jumps. Or I go to my regular supliers of builders =)
Example: 8 jumps ferox 29 mil 3 jumps ferox 29,5 mil
Ill go for 3 jumps most certain.
I can make .5 mil in those 10 jumps up and down so thats in my calculation. Price is not all, location is as important.
Just a small lesson in marketing. Seriously Have I Not Said How I Can Assist Some One You Are Killing Online? |

Location counts big time. I buy my consumables like missiles and drones max 2 jumps from the agent loc. As for rest, usually highway systems and systems next to them (Amarr,Tash-Murkon Prime,Baviasi,Yulai,etc.). Ie. most of the time not cheapest, but always the most convenient.

bah, i do not care about mineral prices, if these lazy miners only would mine, but it appears to me, there is a general mineral shortage. so you lazy miners, stop sitting on your back and bring us some minerals, instead of poking in your nose! |

I'll go a maximum of 3 jumps to buy cheaper items. Any further than that and I'll choose convience over price and pay for a higher priced item.

The problem isn't "us Lazy Miners" it's the new system that limits the number of orders that we can have out.

Edited by: AvanCade on 14/01/2005 11:27:03 First off, setting a order for 1 ISK less (SELL ORDER !!) is usefull, as you will show up as cheapest in the region.
I will usually buy the cheapest, but i'm lasy, and if the difference is not that much (item dependent) i tend to buy the one that is closer to me.
Example: a ship costs 3 jumps away 27million ISK, 10 jumps away its 25 million, i will buy the 27million one. But depends on time and current wallet level.
If its in the same station, then yes i buy the cheapest because i dont pull up advanced info. Items i buy at the stations are cheap items and items i need quick.

The "buy from the cheapest" code makes for some interesting permutations when system-wide orders are being examined and bought from...
My alt sells a certain item at a regular price (were talkin under 100k, basic gear). Another tool in system has them for sale with the 111,111.11 scam. Ive had people who have obviously used adv market while at my station and fallen for his scam thinking he is cheaper. When they buy, they get my stuff and I get the scammers money... ------- Skill points. ISK. Ships, rare equipment. Its all just a means to an end...
Your end.

location counts, that's why factory slots in busy systems are much more expensive than dead end ones.

I think we can all say we choose a happy medium when buying things, like not a stupid amount of jumps and not a stupid price.

The location of factory slots is irrelvant. If the market is appealing, manufacturers will bring product in, when necessary to make a profit. Worst case, a lot of guys will just find an area one or two away from a busy node with a factory that will show up on a market search for your products.
I've found some of the best profits are in hell-hole systems.
And NO I don't support price wars, just reasonable profit for manufactured goods. __________________________________
